Reviews

6.8 Cathedral Nursing Home has a Review Score of 6.8 (6.796)

The Review Score of 6.8 (maximum of 10) for Cathedral Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 5 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Cathedral Nursing Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 2.3 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 2 years. (A 2 year period has been used as there were no positive reviews in the last 12 months)

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.467 for Cathedral Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (31 Excellents x 5) + (26 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 60 Ratings = 4.467

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 2.329 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Cathedral Nursing Home is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4 then divided by 2 = 2.000

    2. Target of 7.6 positive Reviews (38 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 5 Reviews ÷ 7.6 Target = 0.658 , then divided by 2 = 0.329

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

My godmother is a resident at this home, and every time I visit she is always neatly dressed and looks very clean, she tells me she is showered every morning, she enjoys the cooked breakfasts to start the day, then she sits in the lounge with the friends she has made at the home and chats, watches tv or joins in with activities.
The staff are all professional and friendly, every time I visit the home is doing something different to keep the residents happy and occupied.
As a family, we feel that we can approach staff and management if we have an issue or need updating on anything.
Staff always greet us with a smile and ask how we are, and the home doesn't appear to use any agency staff as some homes do.

Mum has been a resident for nearly two years. Her physical health has improved and is maintained. Her general health is much better. She is always clean and tidy and effort is made to match her clothes up. The hairdresser attends regularly which Mum enjoys. The staff are always pleasant and engage in conversation with residents and visitor. Dignity is maintained at all times. There is usually a welcoming smile at the door and can visit as often as I want. Mum says the food is good. There is ongoing refurbishment of the home and many improvements have been made since Mum has been a resident. The activities are a bonus. A varied programme of practical and verbal activities help to keep the residents busy during the day although Mum doesn't always join in, she is good at supervising! The management practice an open door policy. There is always someone willing to discuss any issues and offer advice.

The care provided to my mother in the care home has enabled her to regain her physical health and to safely manage her dementia. Whilst, like many she would prefer to be at home, she acknowledges and accepts that she can’t manage at home and she is doing so well because “the staff are so good to me”. I have witnessed a strong focus on individualised care, respect and dignity with good supervision of both staff and patients. During my visits I have observed real compassion, understanding and care being provided to the residents. I have seen staff engage with and listen to relatives and friends, I have noticed that staff not only know every resident by name, but also every relative and visitor. I have seen the staff confidently and carefully managing individuals in a way that de-escalates and manages challenging behaviours in the least restrictive and calming way.

Mum has been at the Cathedral Nursing home for one year and eight months approx. Over the last 12 months, there has been a noticed improvement with the day to day running of the home, and I feel mums general appearance has improved and she always looks clean and tidy. This I do know is not an easy thing to do. I do understand that the work they do at the home is not easy as I did try to look after mum at her home before personnel care became an issue. The staff are always good to mum and do the best they can for her. After what I have seen in the media and on tv the way some carers have treated residents it does make you worried for your loved ones, but I must say that I do observe how the staff treat the residents and what I have seen, I have no problems with the home and long may it stay that way.
