Overall Experience

My dad came to Cathedral Care Centre from hospital and he was in some pain and, being usually very independent, very much out of his comfort zone. The staff took time to reassure him and make him feel as secure as possible in unfamiliar surroundings. Living some distance from Lincoln and unable to visit, I really appreciated that the manager spared time to talk to Dad and then update me by telephone. From day to day, the staff have found little ways to make his stay better - from a pot of "proper" Yorkshire Tea to a bowl of ice cream to cheer him up. These things make a difference.

Reply from Sarah Scaife, Home Manager at Cathedral Care Centre
Our staff do try their best to make people feel cared for with little personal touches, especially when people first come to stay at the home as this can be such an unsettling time in their lives.

Thank you for leaving such a lovely review, it means the world to myself and my staff.

Since the change of ownership, Cathedral Care has improved dramatically. The whole interior is being refurbished and modernised, and gardens are now pleasant for residents and visitors to sit in. The most striking change is the effective leadership and care provided. As a relative, I am now confident that my parent is being treated with love and respect, and his emotional and physical needs are met. The change from the previous owners is dramatic and improves all the time. Well done and thank you to the staff and management for a fantastic job.

All the staff at Cathedral Care Centre are excellent, they are helpful and always have time for not only the residents but also family and friends. They are extremely caring and they treat the residents as part of their family, you can see the warmth and love they show the residents. I couldn’t ask for better care for my Mum, they are patient, kind-hearted and attentive. I would highly recommend this care home.

I have nothing but praise for the staff at this care home, and that is for all the staff - truly dedicated, professional and people-centred, they provide a level of care that is outstanding, in fact, this should be an additional tick box for the staff rating below.

All the needs of my father were met as staff went above and beyond every hour of every day and no amount of thanks will ever say enough. It is a well maintained and cared for place with excellent rooms and facilities. Spacious and homely, I highly recommend Cathedral Care Centre.

The staff are friendly and helpful.
Manager spends time to explain the care and is approachable.
The property is well kept and clean.
Nice to see residents stimulated with board games.

I would have liked to have the opportunity for a waterproof apron on my father due to his top being wet from dribbling, he could have had sores from this.

Reply from Juliet Peall, Regional Manager at Cathedral Care Centre

Thank you for your kind review of Cathedral, the Manager and her team. I have taken your comment on board regarding the apron and will discuss this moving forward.

Mum has been a resident of Cathedral Nursing Home now for four and a half years. She is well cared for from staff who treat her with dignity and obvious affection. Always clean and checked regularly to see if she needs changing. Her medical needs are met and any changes are reported to me. She enjoys the food on offer which has recently had lots of changes to the menu. Rooms are cleaned daily and I understand decorating and new furniture will start at the end of the month. The staff are caring and engage with the residents. I can access the office to see the manager as her door is generally open.

My godmother is a resident at this home, and every time I visit she is always neatly dressed and looks very clean, she tells me she is showered every morning, she enjoys the cooked breakfasts to start the day, then she sits in the lounge with the friends she has made at the home and chats, watches tv or joins in with activities.
The staff are all professional and friendly, every time I visit the home is doing something different to keep the residents happy and occupied.
As a family, we feel that we can approach staff and management if we have an issue or need updating on anything.

Staff always greet us with a smile and ask how we are, and the home doesn't appear to use any agency staff as some homes do.

Mum has been at the Cathedral Nursing home for one year and eight months approx. Over the last 12 months, there has been a noticed improvement with the day to day running of the home, and I feel mums general appearance has improved and she always looks clean and tidy. This I do know is not an easy thing to do. I do understand that the work they do at the home is not easy as I did try to look after mum at her home before personnel care became an issue. The staff are always good to mum and do the best they can for her. After what I have seen in the media and on tv the way some carers have treated residents it does make you worried for your loved ones, but I must say that I do observe how the staff treat the residents and what I have seen, I have no problems with the home and long may it stay that way.

The care provided to my mother in the care home has enabled her to regain her physical health and to safely manage her dementia. Whilst, like many she would prefer to be at home, she acknowledges and accepts that she can’t manage at home and she is doing so well because “the staff are so good to me”. I have witnessed a strong focus on individualised care, respect and dignity with good supervision of both staff and patients. During my visits I have observed real compassion, understanding and care being provided to the residents. I have seen staff engage with and listen to relatives and friends, I have noticed that staff not only know every resident by name, but also every relative and visitor. I have seen the staff confidently and carefully managing individuals in a way that de-escalates and manages challenging behaviours in the least restrictive and calming way.
