Overall we are very happy with Martin Hall.
Very clean, homemade food.
The staff are very welcoming.
Lots of activities for the residents.
We only have one issue and that is the record keeping. When we were trying to get Mum funding the social worker said at least twice that the records were incomplete. The staff are familiar with Mum and so the records were not done. But they are still needed to be recorded accurately and regularly.

Thanks.

My father has been a resident here for the last four years. He has always considered the care home as his own home.
Over the years my father has had many different carers and he has always felt loved and looked after by them.
When we visit, all the carers and office staff are exceptionally helpful to us and our father.

Now that my father's health is declining, we get regular updates from the front office staff and are always informed if any health concerns appear. Thank you, Martin Hall.

I would like to compliment all the people involved with the running and care given when my friend was with Martin Hall. As an ex-nurse, I was amazed at the cleanliness of this home, it was spotless and on every visit carers were very friendly and professional. Unfortunately, she was sent home and is now totally isolated and unable to care for herself. She would have loved to stay at Martin Hall and was very happy there.

Since my arrival at Martin Hall Nursing Home, every aspect of my care and ‘experience’ here has been exemplary. The carers themselves have been attentive, approachable and personable.
The administrators, nurses and therapists have all maintained excellent communication re. every aspect of my care plan.
Each and every day comes with a varied menu offering a range of delicious meals.
In addition to the physical recovery, a sense of well-being is supported by positively encouraging social interactions and a chance to participate in additional activities.
There is access to the beautiful gardens within the grounds - my room has uplifting views across the gardens - with a bird table right outside - this has undoubtedly supported my recovery.

What a privilege it has been to reside here for my transitional care.

My mum has been in residence in Martin Hall for the last four weeks. From the first evening my mum arrived and was met by two staff members who booked her in, everyone was very attentive, caring and compassionate to the highest level which put her at
ease straight away. The physiotherapy team were great, very patient and attentive.

Nothing was too much trouble and as Mum put in when she left on Sunday, for somebody who has never liked the idea of being in a care/nursing home you all put me at ease straight away and I couldn’t have come to a better place. Thank you to you all for the love and care given to Mum.

Thank you for the continued great care of my dad, who has been with you since the end of June for rehab, as well as Mum who has checked in for respite too. I live in Hampshire so only able to pop up fortnightly or so and was so impressed this past weekend with how much better Dad is looking following two weeks of great nursing and care at Martin Hall Nursing Home. Mum is looking really well too. All staff I have met have been fantastic - so helpful and kind! This has given me so much peace of mind. Please pass on my sincere thanks to all team involved!

Just like to say a huge thank you for looking after my auntie before she passed, the staff bent over backwards to be as helpful as possible. The place was clean and friendly and welcoming and I was so impressed by how my mother was treated when she visited her sister. They were even offered lunch, guessing she didn’t have a lot of time left. Thank you so much I would definitely recommend you if I find myself in that position again. Thanks again.

My mother is currently being cared for here. Absolutely brilliant staff! She is well taken care of, especially since she has had a chest infection. She seems relaxed and happy. I would highly recommend this place for people in need of good care. Excellent for residential, dementia and nursing.

When Mum was admitted to the home, first impressions were good and the staff were friendly. However, myself and the family soon started to get concerned that mum wasn't being looked after properly. Mum has a stoma and has to have a special diet, the home was aware of her stoma but wasn't aware of what food someone should be given, consequently mum was given food that wasn't suitable. Mum also had a broken left arm and was left-handed and no one supervised her eating, if the family were there we would help her feed if we weren't she would be left to herself, she was dirty and her food was all down her. I don't feel that mum was being washed and dressed, when we arrived one day she was sat in the chair in just her nightie and was frozen. We could see that Mum was deteriorating and we were getting worried. In the 4 days that Mum was in the home, I phoned twice because I was concerned. The following day mum was found in the chair unresponsive and was admitted to the hospital.

We welcome reviews both positive and negative and are sorry you feel this way after such a short stay at the care home. The information given before people come to the care home isn't always as accurate as we would like, the issues mentioned regarding special diets and supervision weren't...

Review from Graham L (Husband of Resident) published on 24 August 2022 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

On arrival, my wife was welcomed by members of staff who were polite, careful and friendly, she was given an explanation of the care she would receive whilst resident in the home and given details of calling for members of staff whenever she required anything. My wife's appetite for food reduced whilst she was in hospital and remained so for the duration of her stay at Martin Hall, this was almost certainly due to her being away from home and not happy with her situation as she told me on several occasions that the food at Martin Hall was always good with enjoyable variations from day to day. My wife also informed me that all the staff were exceptionally careful and attentive and always made her feel that looking after her was never a chore they always treated her with respect and regard for her dignity. Whilst she continually wanted to be home as soon as possible she was very happy with the care she received and that her stay was made as comfortable and pleasant as possible. Thanks to all.

The whole team were helpful and professional. If you needed anything doing, they were here at the end of a buzzer. If you were like me and able to do more, they let you do it. Independence is really important whether it be small or large.

Overall Experience

My mother recently stayed at Martin Hall for just over 4 weeks of rehabilitation after 6 weeks in hospital. The care she received at Martin Hall was superb. The staff were wonderful - so caring, considerate, gentle and kind. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Their encouragement, support and help enabled Mum to get on her feet again (literally!), and then to progress so that she was able to come home again. We cannot praise them enough for all that they did. The food was also excellent - nourishing, healthy home-style cooking - just what Mum needed to build her up again. The setting is lovely - she had views of the garden and really enjoyed watching the birds and wildlife from her window. Every member of staff treated Mum with dignity. They were fun to be around and chatted to Mum at every opportunity, coaxing her back to normality. They even put a big replacement tv up in her room so she could see the Queen's jubilee when she broke the first one! Thank you all of you for everything!

Everyone involved in my personal care, help and support was kind, compassionate and professional and willing to give whatever help I needed when I needed it. The menus were varied and nourishing and there were several treats including a national biscuit day with delicious homemade biscuits. I had a very limited appetite to begin with but was never pressurised. My fluid intake was limited to hot water, but this was cheerfully provided. The carers all became good friends. My husband and daughter also agree that the care provided at Martin Hall for whoever has need to regain their strength is first-class.

I visited mum on 18th November 2021 - shocked at how ill she looked. Requested they call the GP. Had previously expressed concern about how short of breath she was and how her cough was much worse. She was admitted to hospital with a chest infection/pneumonia. She was placed on a drip and also had blood transfusions. The care staff should have had her checked by a GP before her condition got this bad. I wonder what would have happened to her if I had not visited her that day!

Reply from Teresa Osborne, Operation Support Manager at Martin Hall Nursing Home

Firstly may we thank you for raising your concerns however Mum was on antibiotics as prescribed by the GP. On the day in question, your request for Mum to be seen by a nurse was immediately actioned and the emergency services were called and Mum was taken by ambulance to hospital on the day. We wish Mum a speedy recovery.
