I live in Scotland and so do not visit the this Care Home regularly. On 17th June 2018 my sister and I visited Red Oaks Care Home unannounced. When we arrived our sister the service user was sitting and chatting with some of the staff and looked very happy. She told us that she was very well cared for
and loved all the staff. She was dressed nicely and was clean. She was also wearing her ear rings, bracelet and other jewellery, which she likes. We found the staff and the management to be very helpful, friendly and professional. We noted that all staff treated the residents with dignity and genuinely cared for them all. The care home is bright and cheerful.
My sister's room and the ensuite were spotless. We were also impressed with the idea of the wish tree where residents can place their wishes on the tree. My sister and I went home very happy, feeling very confident that our sister - the service user - would be well looked after and cared for in Red Oaks care home.

I love this home for my mother. The staff are so respectful and courteous and obviously do this as a vocation and not just a job, they are so caring and loving to all the residents it is wonderful to see. They knock every time they enter a room and genuinely care about the residents like family members
not like patients. The activities vary every day and captivate the attention of my mother who suffers from vascular dementia. Day trips out, break up the day to day life and music therapy reminds me of songs my mother sang in my childhood. The housekeeping staff do an excellent job and treat the residents like family members. The home is well run and managed by a wonderful lady who always has time for a chat no matter how inconsequential the subject matter. The home is being fully renovated and even the renovations are managed to reduce stress to the residents.

Red Oaks care community is a community, All the staff care and are not just there for the money or a job, their actions on a day to day basis shows the love and affection that they hold for all the service users and nothing is too much trouble. They treat people like family. The manager has an open-door
policy and is easy to talk too about and concerns you may have about a relative. The housekeeping staff take pride in their work. The catering staff cook fresh nutritious meals daily and make birthday cakes for every resident. If the service user refuses to eat what’s on the menu they go out of their way to prepare something special just for that person to tempt them to eat. The specialist dementia care activities coordinator is nothing short of brilliant with a large array of activities to keep the mind active.

I cannot express how good this service is, it is so good my Grandmothers sister was moved to this home from another one, the staff are wonderful! It is clean, warm and inviting. The service users are well cared for and entertained. Nothing is too much trouble for anyone. There is tea and coffee available
24 hrs a day. The food is home made and absolutely wonderful, since moving here my grandma seems so much happier, she suffers from dementia but at least now she is settled and happy. I cannot thank this home enough for that. I would recommend this home to anyone who needs residential or nursing care, they are the best around this area, before moving my grandmother here my family looked at 11 in the local area and none of the others compared. Thank you again for the wonderful service you provide.

My mother has been here for at least 6 months, she has breathing and heart problems and dementia. I cannot believe the level of care she gets, the nurses and carers are fantastic, they are so friendly and look after the residents brilliantly. My mother is warm, well fed and cared for.

1st class all round. If they put Avalon and staff management etc. in the Olympics they would achieve gold. Out of all the homes my mother-in-law and my handicapped son have had Avalon is by far the best.

The staff are all very helpful but can be very busy at times due to the diverse needs of the residents. All our concerns about our mother have been addressed and any requests have been met within the constraints of the carers working guidelines.
We like the fact that there is an activity co-ordinator
working there 5 days a week which provides stimulation for the residents. Some areas of the home do look a little "tired" e.g carpeting but this is due to wear and tear and should not be confused with being unclean.
The nurses are very helpful and answer medical queries for us. The residents are toileted regularly and our mother is dressed in clean and different clothes every day. We are very happy with this care home.
Reply from HC-One, Careline Team at Red Oaks Care CommunityThank you for identifying that some areas look tired because of wear and tear and not because they are unclean. We make every effort to ensure the carpets are as well maintained as possible and these are vacuumed daily. Nevertheless, the carpets in the main entrance and corridors have been prioritised for renewal in the new year with some maintenance works being carried out to modernise and improve the tired areas.

My mum has been a resident at Avalon for two years until her death on 21st November, the staff were so caring, attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Mum was always kept clean and tidy, just as she would have wanted, being a very smart and well dressed woman before the ravages of Alzheimer's took
her dignity, pride and personality.

Current Review Score: 9.0 (9.048)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (9.048) out of 10 for Red Oaks Care Community is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 15 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.223 for Red Oaks Care Community is calculated as follows: ( (108 Excellents x 5) + (37 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (9 Poors x 2) + (15 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 175 Ratings = 4.223
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.825 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Red Oaks Care Community is based on 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.825
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 13 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
