A resident peed on the fish tank, I watched him do it. A carer came over and placed the resident in a chair after I pointed it out to a couple of carers, the carer then walked away the poor guy had urine all down his joggers. The carer came back with what looked like a dry mop no bucket, smudged the
urine over the nice clean carpet and walked away with the mop dripping bodily fluids all over the floor. A cleaner then appeared and said the mop had disinfectant on it, really because all I could smell was wee. She said all you will be able to smell now is disinfectant. My reply, really and what about the poor man still sat in dirty wet clothing. The cleaner made a suggestion that someone take the resident to be changed, which should have been down to the carer to do before running off for the mop. Not one person cleaned the chair with the bodily fluids on though. Does anyone at this home receive training? What very poor performance.

Reply from Bisola Obileye, Director at Charnwood Care Home

Charnwood Care Home is a residential and nursing care home. Many of our 40+ residents have dementia and other nursing needs. Most unfortunately, the incident in the review has been grossly misrepresented. Soon after the gentleman who suffers from dementia urinated on the floor near our aquarium, a carer came over to the location and attended to the resident immediately, first to calm him down and subsequently, to take him away ever so gently, for a clean-up and change of clothes. This was followed by the cleaner disinfecting the location and further cleaning the place and its surroundings. We could have explained this to Rebecca L but she made no attempt to reach out to the care leaders or management on the day of the incident to share her observation. Management has subsequently met with Rebecca L's aunt and mum (during their subsequent visits) and they are both happy with their mum's care. We therefore refute Rebecca L's account of the incident and her conclusion.

My mum has been here since the end of October 23. It was devastating to have to move her out of her home, but the staff have settled her in so quickly, I’m astounded.
Despite having Alzheimer’s, she tells us regularly she is happy and settled and everyone is kind and most importantly she feels safe.
I
cannot thank everyone enough, you made the transition so easy and have all been wonderful with Mum.
Charnwood is clean, homely, welcoming and friendly.

On our first visit (my wife and I) we were delighted with the welcome from the staff, the clean, light, and fresh air ambience of the home.
My aunty has dementia but is still full of her old personality and characteristics. The kindly and attentive staff encourage her to be herself: Fortunately, she
is fairly active and insists on walking around without a stick but always under the watchful eye of the staff. In good weather, a keen gardener in her day, she visits the home's own garden.
She told us she likes her bed and her room is a happy, contented looking place with personal mementoes from her own home.

My mom was in a bad way when she came to Charnwood Care Home 3 months ago; her dementia had taken its toll emotionally. Thanks to the wonderful staff, she is now mostly happy and far more content. All the staff I've had contact with have been truly kind and caring and any interactions with other residents
I've witnessed/heard have backed this up. The carers 'care' which to me is what really matters.

After this past year as a full-time carer of Mum, who has vascular dementia, both myself and Mum were really ready for a break. It was so important to me that Mum enjoyed her stay and had a positive experience.
Charnwood Care Home provided a safe, friendly, professional and well organised home for
Mum to receive the care she deserves. In these challenging times it was such a relief to see all the staff happy and caring and providing excellent, safe care.
Mum is happy to return and we have booked another short stay.
Thanks to all the staff.

Current Review Score: 8.6 (8.640)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.6 (8.640) out of 10 for Charnwood Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.542 for Charnwood Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (72 Excellents x 5) + (14 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (4 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 96 Ratings = 4.542

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.098 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Charnwood Care Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 88 registered maximum number of service users is 17.6. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 17.6 = 0.398

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
