I found Charnwood to be a very clean and friendly home. I was made to feel welcome as soon as my relative was taken in. I would highly recommend the home to people looking for permanent care for loved ones. Rooms come as basic but soon made my relatives room feel like home as we were allowed personalise
it.

Following my visit today I wish to congratulate the girls on shift. The care, kindness and empathy given to my sister was exceptional. The activity lady made sure I had a drink and my sister was well looked after. While I was there a lady became distressed and was shouting the activity lady was very
good she soothed her and gave the lady a hand massage which looked very comforting for the lady. I would recommend this home it's very nice.

I am very happy with the way my mother is being cared for. I would be more that satisfied for my mother to stay long term. I consider the facilities far better than other care homes I have seen.

We found Charnwood the best after viewing a few other care homes, for our Dad who has dementia. We leave him contented knowing he is comfortable and well looked after. We visit regularly at all times, find staff all friendly.

I see that my father receives a high standard of care and attention. The staff are thoughtful and caring and it's a comfort to know and see their dedication to his needs as we are now so far away. The facilities are excellent and the quality of the food and activities is of a very high standard, no
complaints from my dad in that respect.

I asked the activity lady to take me shopping, I had only been here a couple of days and nothing was too much trouble. She booked me a taxi and got me to the shops, she found everything I wanted, it was such a pleasure to be with her. When we got back she got all my stuff together and put it in my room.
After this, she settled me down for my lunch, this lady was marvellous.

Spoke to the activities co-ordinator, now we appreciate how difficult it is to encourage my mum to take part in the activities. We are happy that trouble is taken with mum and that she does take more part than we thought. I have seen the activities co-ordinator in a different uniform so it's really
disappointing that when staff is short she is taken off activities!!!

Activities is a lot better now than it was before. Bedrooms need to be decorated and new furniture. Staff to take more care of people's possessions. Messages need to be clearly written down.

The home is very homely and welcoming and the staff are very caring and friendly. My mum/dad settled in very quickly and are happy and feel safe. The meals are good and varied, staff will always keep family informed and up to date. There are lots of different activities that they can join in if they
wish. I would highly recommend this care home to anyone.

Current Review Score: 7.9 (7.885)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.9 (7.885) out of 10 for Charnwood Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.6 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.283 for Charnwood Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (37 Excellents x 5) + (13 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (4 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 60 Ratings = 4.283
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.602 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Charnwood Care Home is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 88 registered maximum number of service users is 17.6. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 17.6 = 0.227
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
