Connect House is a family orientated service which provides care and treatment via two very distinct services. In total the home provides 74 ensuite bedrooms split across two suites.

Heritage Suite provides residential and nursing care for up to 37 individuals living with a range of care needs. They provide care and support for those living with dementia and also provide dedicated End of Life care. They are currently undertaking the Gold Standard Framework for end of life care and have staff training to be 'Soul Midwives'. Training commenced in these areas in 2020 and is ongoing.

In 2020, Connect House reviewed how they did things as a service and made many changes. Heritage Suite is warm, friendly and homely. All of their family members are long term residents who have had input into the look, feel and design of their home with the addition of a new conservatory which completed this year. You will find staff in non-uniform but with clear identification. They have adopted Tom Kitwood's approach to care which focuses on the individual and their needs with staff practicing this ethos in their everyday activities.

In 2020 the Garden Suite expanded to support residents with complex needs via hospital referrals. They currently offer support to 12 assessment beds, 6 stroke beds and 14 enhanced care beds. These are commission by the CCG in partnership with City Care. They also have 5 short-term spot beds to support those making the transition to long-term care solutions.

Connect House has an amazing Well-Being Team who offer wonderful meaningful engagement opportunities 7 days a week. These include Virtual Reality experiences, their amazing Interactive Table supporting individual and group activities, arts and crafts, reminiscence, trips to their own corner store, music, spa experiences and pet therapy to name but a few.

Received nothing but kindness from the staff. Our mother was treated by wonderful, caring staff. Nothing was too much trouble for them, they were so helpful and caring with all our questions and very accommodating in making arrangements for us to see our mother at her room window. The staff are to be
proud of, they are absolute angels. Thank you for looking after our mother, it put our minds at rest.
Reply from Helen Beacher, Registered Home Manager at Connect House

You are most welcome and thank you for such kind words which I have taken much pride in cascading to the staff who are overwhelmed with your lovely comments and recognition of the hard work they do. I certainly agree with you that I have many angels who work here. We are so pleased that during your mother's stay in such unprecedented times, not only did staff support her and show compassion and kindness, but we were able to also provide you comfort and peace of mind. Thank you once again for your lovely feedback.

The staff at Connect House showed my grandfather the utmost care, respect and dignity when he was very poorly with coronavirus earlier this year. Along with this, they keep me informed of his progress. My grandfather made it through coronavirus and as now a permanent resident at Connect House. They
take very good care of him and he really likes it there. They are happy with me ringing several times a week to speak to him on the telephone, he always appears clean and well looked after, they do activities with him, and he has put on weight since his illness and hospital admission. I am really happy with Connect House and would highly recommend it.

Thank you for your kind comments, they mean a great deal to all staff at Connect House. Your grandfather is very highly thought of and staff genuinely look forward to his frequent renditions of "you are my sunshine" (amongst others) on the keyboard, he is truly talented and very much 'our sunshine'. We are so pleased that he is staying with us as a permanent resident and we look forward to sending you each one of those updates. He is truly a lovely gentleman who has captured the hearts of the majority of our staff, myself included.

Staff spoke to residents like they were children. Never saw any real interaction between staff and residents when visiting. Carers described as being 'very rough' by resident when preparing them for bed/in a morning. Seem to run on minimal staff which left no person-centred care for residents. Slow
to respond to or investigate concerns. The family were not invited to be involved in their care plan or assessment of needs (rehabilitating).
Reply from Helen Beacher, Registered Manager at Connect House

We're extremely disappointed that during the Covid-19 pandemic in which family visits were not permitted within our home, you were not able to witness first hand our good staffing levels which reflect the dependency needs of each resident, our person-centered care where staff genuinely strive to create meaningful interactions for all individuals using our service both long term and those in our assessment to discharge beds (as with your relative) and that despite continued multiple communications with many family members, you have felt you were not involved in your loved one's care plan or assessment of needs despite our best efforts to manage all family members expectations with the extended multidisciplinary approach of ourselves and City Care.

We do of course take all comments on board to help develop our service as we shall do with yours. All concerns and queries are investigated promptly and anything substantiated would always be acted upon in line with our duty of candour.

I cannot thank all the staff enough for the care of my dad. From the moment he arrived the whole team were caring, supportive and informative about the care he would get. The rooms had on suites, were spotless, bright and had everything he needed. The staff were always attentive to Dad's every need,
the food always smelt lovely. From first thing in the morning till the last thing at night, we were always made to feel welcome, the staff are always smiling and answered all our questions. My dad was on the end of life care and the staff went above and beyond to make this difficult time as a family more comfortable. After Dad had passed each member of staff came to see us to pay their condolences and comfort us all. They made Dad comfortable and let us have as much time as we all needed. Again, I cannot thank all the staff enough for what they did, they made my Dad's last few days comfortable and peaceful, we couldn't have wished for anymore.

Thank you for your heartwarming review of the genuine care and compassion our staff are known for. As a manager, your overwhelming comments on how we were able to support your family mean the world to not only myself, but they mean so much to all the staff at Connect House who were overwhelmed when I shared your lovely review. Having your dad with us during his end of life care was truly an honour for us. We cannot thank you enough for choosing our home to play a part in such a precious time in your families' lives. We are beyond pleased that we could provide comfort at a time most difficult and he, as will you all, will be remembered with fondness and compassion. Thank you.

My husband was admitted three weeks ago and has improved beyond belief thanks to the caring and attentive staff. For the first time in many months, Connect House has given my husband the confidence and mental strength to get better. His complicated medication is always given at correct times and quantities.
The efficiency of all the staff is amazing, and for the first time in a long time, I feel safe to leave him in their caring hands. Most impressive is that the staff know his history and therefore spot problems before they get out of hand. Well done and thank you.

Thank you for your overwhelming lovely words and praise. It is always wonderful to be able to share with staff the experience of residents and their families. We have been honoured to provide what you feel is overall excellent service. Hearing first hand how we have supported you both is wonderful. For staff to know that you feel like this will be appreciated and I'm sure they will be very proud of the care they provide. I know I am. Thank you again.

Our experience has been very good, have told us every step what is happening to our family member, and what they are going to be doing. All staff are very friendly to all and they all make sure that we are ok ourselves, not just the family member that is staying there.

If I had any concerns regarding my mother's general health or welfare have always found the staff to be caring. Most importantly my mother does seem quite content with everything at Connect House. That, of course, is the most important of all.

Current Review Score: 7.6 (7.581)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.6 (7.581) out of 10 for Connect House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 3.4 out of 5 from 12 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 3.408 for Connect House is calculated as follows: ( (58 Excellents x 5) + (27 Goods x 4) + (12 Satisfactorys x 3) + (5 Poors x 2) + (40 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 142 Ratings = 3.408
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.173 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Connect House is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 74 registered maximum number of service users is 14.8. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 14.8 = 0.473
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
