Our Aunt has much improved since transferring to Averill House after a hospital stay. Her medical conditions are much better managed and her engagement and energy levels are much better. We are pleased that she now has a permanent place.

My friend was a resident at Averill House Care Home. Unfortunately, she passed away during the pandemic, due to complications with Parkinson’s Disease. She was cared for and comfortable and was grateful for the social and creative activities.
Along with this, I was a volunteer at a local food bank
during the covid period and know how hard the staff worked throughout this difficult time. Abiding by all the restrictions and many staff themselves succumbing to covid, made life stressful for all concerned. Yet they gave their time and energy to keep morale up and to continue caring for their clients.

Dad was admitted to Averill House for 6 week period of assessment. Because of Covid restrictions, I didn't ever go inside, but any questions or concerns were handled immediately and professionally. The staff could always tell me how he was and how he was doing when we telephoned. It was my first experience
of a care home and I was happy with the home and overall I would say the experience for dad was a positive one.

The staff are always friendly and helpful. Warmth towards my relative is clear. Difficult to make frequent appointments due to lack of space/slots but good consistent service on each visit. My relative has improved since arriving so responding well to care.

Any boxes left blank I can't comment on as we have only been in the designated visitor's room which is very clean. Don't have knowledge of costs. Don't know about food or drink or activities.

Mum has only been here a short time but the care and the staff are lovely. Nothing seems to be too much trouble and any questions always answered. The family are really pleased with her care. Sorry I didn't check all the boxes as with Covid we have been unable to see rooms etc.

My mum has been a resident since 2011. The staff are very welcoming, supportive and hard-working. My mum has Vascular Dementia and Alzheimer's and has declined over the years. The staff have looked after my mum above and beyond and have been very supportive of our family throughout the various stages.

My mother was diagnosed with onset dementia, and from day one all of the team at Averill House made my mum feel really welcome and at home. She was obviously very distressed to start with but was comforted and constantly reassured that everything would be okay. She soon settled in and enjoyed her stay
there. Thanks to everyone, but a very special mention to one member of staff in particular who went out of her way to look after my mum, and she certainly filled the gap between family visits. I would not hesitate to recommend Averill House to anyone.

Averill house has kept us informed of the information surrounding COVID 19 and its effect on the home. They have implemented all the necessary measures to ensure that the residents are safe during this worrying time. Although we cannot visit we have been to the window and are looking forward to being
able to visit again. We have no issues in the care they are providing and have peace of mind that our relative is well cared for. The staff have organised Skype calls for us and have regularly planned activities. We had also been invited to be involved in a discussion of the care plans for our relative.

I am satisfied with home if I do have any problems I will discuss it with the manager. All the staff at the home are kind and helpful and treat visitors in a friendly way. Always. I must add a special word for the carers who do this difficult job of looking after people with dementia with love, care
and consideration.

I think more staff are needed over the weekends. I've seen on numerous occasions staff are fully stretched. Staff are very polite, there are a lot of residents who need assistance. Staff communicate well with each other and prioritise what job needs to be done first.

My mum went into Averill House in November. The room is lovely, freshly painted. She has a lovely view from her bedroom window, looking onto the garden.
The staff seem very caring. They spend time with my mum to make sure she is not feeling lonely or scared. If I ask the staff anything they are always
very helpful.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.571)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.571) out of 10 for Averill House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.733 for Averill House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (78 Excellents x 5) + (26 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 105 Ratings = 4.733
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.838 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Averill House Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 48 registered maximum number of service users is 9.6. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.6 = 0.938
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
