When I go and see my auntie, the staff are friendly and approachable. Auntie seems very happy and settled. If you have a concern they will talk to you about it and sort it out the best they can, taking all views in place.

My mother has been in this care home since September last year. She has previously been in 2 other homes and this one is the best. Although her room and the communal rooms are basic, they are adequate. The general care is usually good. My mother is clean and well dressed and fed.
A criticism is that
there are not enough staff to provide stimulation through activities or spending quality time eg. hand holding with Mum and other residents.
Reply from Clare Sheehan, Careline Advisor at Averill House Care Home

Thank you for your review; we value all feedback as this helps us to improve our service where required. Our Wellbeing Co-ordinator arranges activities for the home, providing each Resident with a weekly planner of all forthcoming activities. Your Mother likes to be involved in these activities and is taken in her chair to attend, should she so choose. She also enjoyed our recent Open Day and participated in the sing-along and outdoor activities. Our activities are over when you visit around tea time but please be reassured we do provide one to one pampering regularly. Our care staff pay close attention to the emotional needs of all our Residents, including your Mother, such as holding her hand when she indicates a need for this. Please don’t hesitate to liaise with Home Management should you have any concerns; we are always happy to help

We are generally very pleased with the care my sister is receiving. The only thing is her hearing aid, teeth and glasses can never be found.
Reply from HC-One, Careline Team at Averill House Care Home

Thank you for your feedback. We are delighted to hear that you are so pleased with the care your relative is receiving at Averill House. The issue of missing hearing aid, teeth and glasses had not been brought to our attention, however, the home manager and her staff team have been made aware of these concerns and are taking action to ensure they are addressed as a matter of urgency. We encourage relatives to speak to the home manager or person in charge whilst visiting the home if there are any areas of concern so that we can take immediate action.

The staff are all very caring and patient with mum, even though at times she can be very difficult. Averill House care Home is a clean, pleasant environment. It is obvious that the carers who dress mum each day make sure that she looks good. We are happy that mum is being treated with respect and is
well fed and looked after.

It was most noticeable on my first visit to Averill House just how peaceful and calm the house really was. These same remarks also apply to the lounge areas where most of the residents appear to spend their time, although it must be said the staff always on duty are very attentive. As well as the lounge
areas being so ship-shape and orderly, the bathrooms, corridors, and bedrooms appear to be decorated to a high standard of finish and very well maintained.
The staff are extremely watchful whilst carrying out their duties, but extremely pleasant and courteous in their manner. All in all, a fine care home.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.571)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.571) out of 10 for Averill House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.733 for Averill House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (78 Excellents x 5) + (26 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 105 Ratings = 4.733
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.838 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Averill House Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 48 registered maximum number of service users is 9.6. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.6 = 0.938
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
