Poor care due to not enough staff. Too many agency staff especially on nights and sometimes mum can't understand them, no patience. Elderly left on their own for hours. We have complained many times, but nothing changes. Mum should have 24/7 care - this does NOT happen. Manager spends all her time upstairs doing paperwork, rarely downstairs overseeing or helping. Food terrible. No entertainment, stimulation, or exercise (just left in chairs or rooms). If we didn't attend to mum's needs, she would be a lot worse. Residents, bored and left for too long.

My wife Jean will eat all her food, but she needs time to eat it, as several others do. Some carers help her, but clear up after so long to clean the kitchen, as I have witnessed it myself. I have asked some of the one of the senior carers for a supplement of vitamins for my wife.

Reply from Julie Caygill, Hospital Liaison Team Administrator at Avalon Park Care Home
Dear Dennis,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We will ensure that Jean is given sufficient time to complete her meals, and we will follow up regarding the request for vitamin supplements. Your feedback is appreciated.

Staff are very helpful and caring. Nothing is too much trouble. The manager has the best interest of all her residents and staff. Also, the secretary has things very organised and displays everything that is going on.

Do NOT I mean do NOT put your loved ones in this home. This home is Requires Improvement for a reason. Your precious loved ones will be neglected 100%. Absolutely disgusting I can't wait for CQC inspection and full coroners inquests and formal complaint that hasn't been addressed. Disgusting.

No care plan in place. Wow. Told 28 days legal requirement. Not "we are extremely happy to share this information with you, with have prepared this immediately so you can be confident that you loved one is in safe hands with us". So in a home with no care plan, bet handover times went well. Such a loving caring home. Blah Blah Blah. Note I really appreciate you don't want your loved one here so we will do everything in our power to get them home. They were neglected and left in their own urine its disgusting after asking for help. Come up with all your excuses. You messed with the wrong family. We took video evidence. Deny that in court.

Thank you for your review, we value all feedback as this helps us to improve our service where required. Please be assured your loved one's care plan was in place within 48hours of him being admitted to our home and we continued to add to it throughout his time with us. We have no concerns raised...

Fabulous staff who go above and beyond consistently to make the residents feel loved and provide exceptional care.
Always prepared to take calls (we live abroad) and to give honest feedback about how Mom is doing.
My mom recently had a very bad fall and the care and attention provided was exceptional with tremendous support to myself as well as my mom.
I am so glad Mom is in a home where the staff really care about the residents and are always looking at ways to engage and entertain them while ensuring their safety and well-being.
Very responsive when there is anything needed and takes a proactive approach to ensuring Mom's health needs are met.

Would definitely recommend Avalon Park.

My family attended a Halloween party at Avalon Park Care Home. The staff had put in a lot of work over two weeks, decorating and involving patients to take part.

On the night of the event, a lot of people attended and everyone enjoyed the party. All the staff had made all their hard work a very successful time for everyone. Very well done Avalon Park.

My mum was recently admitted to Avalon Park in the dementia section of the home. Right from day one the staff kept us informed on what was happening with Mum and helped us to cope with leaving her that very first day which was very difficult for us as a family. She has been there just over a week and she already looks healthier and has settled in well. They allow my dad to visit whenever he wants and always make him feel welcome. I honestly don’t know how the carers do it on the upstairs unit they are all absolutely amazing and we feel Mum is in the very best care, giving us peace of mind.

I found out this week that the plan was for Mum to move to Avalon Park Care Home. As soon as I knew where she was moving to, I drove to visit, unannounced. My view is that to turn up to a care home unannounced and be allowed immediate access, is a definite plus. I was greeted by two lovely staff members who showed me around immediately. Mum moved to Avalon Park today and the process was seamless.
As the child of an elderly relative needing care, it is stressful. It is only going to happen once and it is vital that it is right.
I was super impressed with the cleanliness of the care home, nothing looks old or shabby.
Several staff came to see Mum during the first couple of hours of settling her in and my confidence grew during this time.

As I say, it is a very stressful time for me, but I’m confident she’ll be well cared for. Thank you.

My mum has only been at Avalon Park for 3 weeks but she already seems brighter and is walking more. The staff have all been lovely, I don't know everyone's names yet to name them individually but all I have met seem friendly and efficient. My mum has some dementia but she also says everyone is very kind to her. As I say she has only been there three weeks but very happy so far.

My mum had an all too short stay at Avalon Park. When she arrived she wasn't in the best of places with regard to her mental state. We were soon put at ease with how well mum was cared for, mum soon settled into her new home and was extremely well cared for. In my experience, all members of staff couldn't do enough for us as a family or my mum. When mum passed away she was treated with the utmost dignity. It was obvious they all really cared and they couldn't do enough for us at a very difficult time. I cannot thank all the staff enough they have made this most difficult of times that much easier to bear.

Mum has been very well looked after since she has been in the home last year. She could no longer look after herself in her home, and was suffering from severe depression. Since going into Avalon Park she is happy and it's nice to see Mum happy again. She has made friends and the staff have been great with her and are very patient from what I have seen with other residents. This has also changed my life and allowed me to spend more time with my children and have a better quality of life. Thank you!
