I have been very happy with the treatment my mother has received while staying at Millfield Care Home. The staff are very professional and provide a caring environment where they are always there to help and provide support.

I find the staff rather useless at times and can often be found sitting watching tv rather than doing the job they are paid for. If you want a cup of tea off them to forget it we had to buy mum her own tea making facilities in order for her to actually have a drink as the staff would often call my mum a nuisance for asking. The food is what you would serve at a nursery rather than a care home! The staff would ask mum if she would like to participate in activities but would then 'forget' to get her from her room leaving her in there all day with nothing to do.

There has been a noticeable difference since the new manager took over. The staff seem to have a renewed pride in themselves, the paperwork's up to date and more people are smiling. The home has always been clean but the maintenance and cleanliness is particularly uplifting. There is absolutely no smell of urine anywhere.

My mother is happy here and that says it all.
Happy with her carers and happy with her care. Happy with her room, warmth and security.
Because she is happy, so am I. When taking into account that I used to worry about her living as I do on the continent.

The staff constantly keep me informed.

The person I care for and visit regularly has been happy and comfortable at Millfield Care Home. The staff have been excellent in their treatment of her and her personal care has been very good. One thing I would ask for is that she be given a drink more frequently as she cannot help herself.

I find the Millfield Home extremely good in some aspects and not very good in others.
The laundry is done every day which is good and hygienic but then delivered to the residents room and instead of being hung up in the wardrobe jumpers etc are shoved in a drawer and totally creased up.

I would be happier if each resident had a nominated carer who was familiar with all aspects of mums care.

Mum seems really settled at Millfield Care Home. My/her one big issue is the quality
and variation of the food when you spend so much time in a care home.
Food plays a massive part in the quality of life and should be something to look forward to each day (especially paying nearly £40k year)

PS a really good effort by the new management in all areas (except food) especial the memory lane features, well done.

Millfield is a purpose built residential home that is well managed and run to provide as good an environment for frail older people as possible. The staff know each of the residents as individuals and do their best to cater to my mother's requirements. They are flexible in their approach to allow my mother to still have some control over her life. I have nothing but praise for their caring and professionalism.

My relative has lived on Hopwood unit for nearly a year now. In the past I have been concerned that there were no staff 'about'. I am so pleased the staff now occupy a nursing station, opposite the buzzer panel. I feel more assured that they are attentive to what is happening. My grandma says the buzzer is answered more quickly. Thank You to the home for realising a change was needed to make a difference.

My family chose Millfield for my Grandma because it is a beautiful home. The rooms are en-suite and are decorated to a high standard. Food is amazing, the staff are kind and the management really care.

I am so pleased that with the help of social services, my Grandma now has such an amazing home. Care in the community was not working... Millfield care is, as she is happy!

Katarzyna Kapalka
Katarzyna KapalkaJob Title:Care Home Managers

I started my nursing training in 1986 and have worked in the care sector ever since, becoming the manager at Millfield in 2018.

I always wanted to do something medical and to teach, and I am extremely lucky to have had a career in which I have been able to fulfil both of my ambitions. I have been a nurse in both the NHS and the private sectors and have lectured in the adult education sector.

My "personal" motto is: “Treat others how you wish to be treated yourself”. It is of the utmost importance that our residents are always treated with respect and dignity, and that they enjoy an enriching and fulfilling experience at Millfield.

I am married with two grown-up children and love to read, cycle and walk my dog. I am also a trustee of a local charity that runs six nurseries.
