My Mum went into Millfield on the 24th July for end of life care, she passed away on Sunday 27th July. In her short stay I could not fault the staff for the care she received, all the staff were very caring and compassionate not only to my Mum but to our family as well.
Thank you.

I have sent reviews before but felt I had to make more comments on this lovely home.
My mum has been here for several years now and i try to visit almost daily.
During this time I have got to know members of staff and wanted to say how friendly and caring they all are.
They work together brilliantly
as a team and all are very willing to help each other out as needed, they just get on with things in a very positive manner.
Thank You all for looking after my mum so well.

Mum has only been at Washington Lodge for a couple of weeks and she has settled really well. This is due to the staff who are constantly popping in and out to check on her and have a chat. I have had many questions, all of which have been answered clearly, the open door policy meant I never felt like
I was being a nuisance.

My MIL came into the home urgently just before Christmas 2024, the home couldn't have done more to make her feel welcome & at home. My MIL had dementia & had a couple of falls so was in an immobile state, they did try to get her mobility back but it had gone to far, they couldn't, but tried. All staff
at this home couldn't have done enough for her & she was loved by all that met her. She started to deteriorate a couple of weeks ago & they keep the three sons & her husband informed & involved all the time, when it came to near the end, the staff sat with her 24/7 so she wasn't on her own, when we went in the day before she passed. We were given time on our own with her & then the staff nurse came & told us everything that was happening & that it wouldn't be long. Then next morning we got the call & rushed to the home & she has passed peacefully in her sleep 10 mins before. The staff have done more to help her passing not be as hard & are wonderful. We all can't thank them enough.

Gilwood Lodge Nursing Home

Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My grandad hasn't been a resident for long but since being a resident at Gilwood lodge I have seen a significant change in him.
My grandad has Alzheimer's and was previously a resident in a different care home before coming here, and when coming to Gilwood lodge he was very underweight and his condition,
we thought was worsening. I can truly say that the team at Gilwood lodge have saved my grandad and have given me the grandad back that I remember! Nothing is ever too much for them and they are so kind, caring and
I can say with confidence that he is looked after to a gold standard and I trust the team wholeheartedly. They are always keeping me and my family in the loop with videos and pictures of my grandad dancing and just enjoying himself in general. I wish I could rate them higher than 5 stars because they deserve it.
I can't thank them enough for helping my grandad find his spark again!

My dad was transferred to Gilwood Lodge from Hospital. To say he wasn't keen on becoming a resident of any nursing home would be an understatement. I cannot praise the nursing home and their staff highly enough. They allowed him to settle in at his own pace and were extremely considerate concerning
his initial reluctance. Their care, compassion and continuous social interaction with my dad have helped him fully settle. He has said to me on numerous occasions that he can't imagine being anywhere else now. He compares it to a five star hotel. If there was an option to award more than five stars I would do it in a heartbeat. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending the home to anyone. They say staff make the environment and it couldn't be better than at Gilwood Lodge.

My husband has been in High Peak N H for just over a year and has settled in well. There is a good atmosphere in the home and the management and staff are very helpful and kind to the residents, nothing being too much trouble. The catering staff provide excellent menus. The social activities are enjoyed
by the residents and visitors alike. There is also a lovely garden. I would definitely recommend.

I hope this review helps others at a difficult time when you are placing your loved one into a home, as it can be distressing & upsetting for all involved, a time of uncertainty, sadness, guilt, so many emotions overwhelming & the last thing you want to do is going to visit the care homes.. I picked
Gilwood Lodge South Shore Blackpool greeted by the manager ( I did also visit other care homes which the manager said I should do) they were welcoming & understanding allowing me to ask questions and offer of telephone assistance if I remembered anything later. Whilst I walked around the home I noticed all the staff knew ALL the patients names & treated them like family, it was bright and sunny (from other viewings elsewhere not always the norm).
I felt this was where my mother would be treated like a human not a £££ and given caring and respect.
At Gilwood Lodge she has been treated so kindly with understanding & care always, all the team are fantastic 100% recommend

Simonsfield is great Care Home and my Dad is very settled and contented. Home gets decorated with cards and pictures and decorations for Valentines Day, Easter, Christmas and other events. It has a very homely atmosphere and the Managers and Staff are very friendly and excellent care is given to
each individual Residents different needs and personalities.
The Staff also look after the relatives of Residents with regular updates on care, appointments etc.
and have a way of cheering up relatives who may be adapting to having a family Member moving to the Home.
My Dad has been living at Simonsfield for over 2 years now and would not be here now without the expert care and dedication of the hardworking Staff who all have a great sense of humour.
