Review of Millfield Care Home from Kelly F (Daughter of Resident) published on 29 July 2026 Submitted via Website

Do not send your relative to this home. It is dirty, care staff were only responsive following a formal complaint. Care assistants are unprofessional, they need more training to ensure privacy and dignity of residents. Cross infection/contamination was observed including poor hand hygiene and limited use of PPE.

Staff fabricated the truth, lots of Agency staff was being used and they were often in unsafe numbers. Senior Nurse Assistant perceived herself to be qualified which resulted in neglect and difficulties in communication. Family were not informed of any illnesses which resulted in my Fathers quick demise!! Staff forgot to give him his Oxygen, personal care was limited. Complaints were not acted upon until my Father passed away, despite multiple complaints being submitted. Rooms are sweltering hot in summer and staff do nothing to make this more comfortable. Staff were observed using foul language about residents. The manager was dismissive. Documentation was poor!

Could not be more satisfied with the care, love and attention given to my uncle by all the staff. We have never heard him make any criticism of his care or of the staff and facilities. We will always be grateful for their help and support.

My family member has been at Washington Lodge for sixteen months. We have been overwhelmed by the care, consideration and support shown. Not only to him but to all of us. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, and the management are extremely attentive. We will always be grateful for their kindness.

Avoid if you want your elderly parents to be safe from assault from other residents!
My father has been assaulted 4 times in this care home by the same woman who's allowed to wander into people's rooms and assault other residents who are immobile.
Yet , the management seem quite happy to let her roam the corridors, the only mobile person on a floor full of immobile people.
I had to stop her myself from assaulting my father, as an agency worker just stood and stared out of a window!
Reported this home to Social Services, CQC, the police and adult safeguarding..
If you look at the entrance door, it's full of good reviews, then look at the dates.
From about 4 or 5 years ago.
If this was a kennel, you wouldn't put your dog in here.
There is no safety or safeguarding as the staff are practically all agency workers, and a lot of the other carers are leaving for better care homes.
The home has little, or zero management.

This home has been in administration for years, it is so bad, nobody will actually take it over.

Review of Gilwood Lodge Nursing Home from Meg F (Granddaughter of Resident) published on 18 June 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

Moving both my Gran and Grandad into a new care home was a daunting and emotional experience for our family, but from the moment they arrived at Gilwood Lodge, the staff made us feel completely welcome and reassured. The care, compassion, and kindness shown by every member of the team have been truly exceptional. They took the time to get to know both my grandparents and always made them feel valued, comfortable, and at home.Sadly, we recently lost my Gran, which has been one of the most difficult times our family has ever faced.Everyone at Gilwood Lodge went above and beyond to support us. They handled everything with such dignity, sensitivity, and compassion, always keeping my Gran's best interests at heart. Since losing my Gran, the team have continued to be amazing with my Grandad. They have kept an extra eye on him.Knowing he is surrounded by such caring people gives our family great peace of mind. We will always be grateful for the love and kindness shown by everyone. Thankyou

Review of Gilwood Lodge Nursing Home from Rebecca H (Daughter of Resident) published on 18 June 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

Both of my parents have recently moved to Gillwood Lodge from other care homes. My dad moved first, he has Parkinsons and needs 24hr care. Everyone at Gilwood has welcomed him and treated him with care and respect. They let him be himself and he is so happy there. My mum moved in shortly after after she broke her hip, she also had dementia. She moved in after a long stint in hospital as she now needed 24hr care. Again everyone at Gilwood gave her such live and care. My mum was there for 6 weeks when she passed away, the staff were amazing. At my mums funeral some staff came including the manager to support us as a family. And they continue to care for dad with such love and care. We as a family cannot thank them enough for everything they have done and continue to do.

Some staff are 'excellent' and some are 'good'. The more qualified they are the better they are. All are pleasant and at least 'good'.
Sometimes my father's clothes or socks disappear and he ends up with someone else's on. I do understand - but some things do not reappear again.
The activities are great, I'd just like to see more of them.
I think the position of the television in the big sitting room is not helpful and could be in a better position for the residents to engage in watching.

The staff members we interact with most frequently are excellent.

Over the years, several members of my family have required social care. All homes have been high quality, but pale into insignificance when compared to High Peak. Cannot speak highly enough about all the staff. They are professional, caring and are a real credit to the company. I have no hesitation in recommending High Peak to anyone requiring first class social care for a loved one.

The home is always lovely, clean and tidy. All staff are approachable, and nothing is too much trouble.

They have a variety of meals with choice. The staff go above and beyond when it's a resident's birthday, Easter, Christmas, providing extra activities including buffet and singers, etc. Weekly entertainment - dominoes, trips out to bingo.

My father has been a resident since July 2023. Always received constant care and attention. Recently moved rooms to be on ground floor, nearer office to be kept an eye on, due to him wandering away from his room. Medical updates and phone calls to inform the family always.

Review of Washington Lodge Nursing Home from A T (Daughter of Resident) published on 24 April 2026 Submitted via Website

My father had mixed dementia and challenging behaviours which meant he could no longer be cared for at home. We brought dad to Washington Lodge from a another care home and from the minute he was collected from the car we knew he was in the right place. He has been looked after and cared for wonderfully by all the team, ensuring he was clean, shaven and had dignity in his final months. He was spoken to as a human being, not a "resident", and we were made to feel part of a community. Thank you to everyone who cared for my dad, and also for looking after us in difficult times.
