Came to visit with his son, he seems very happy here and has become more sociable since being here. His last home he wouldn't leave his room but this home he mingles with other residents. He says the staff are all friendly and he gets on well with them all. Very well looked after and very clean environment.

I am very happy with the care of my partner, and he seems very contended and enjoying his food. The decor and surroundings of the home are great, exceptionally clean, and bright. His room is spacious and ensuite, and he has his own television. The activities are well planned, and he likes to watch even
if he cannot join in everything and particularly enjoys the singing. Looking foreard to Christmas festivities

My husband entered Downshaw Lodge directly from hospital following a very long stay there. Within 24 hours he was like a different man, eating all his meals, more alert to his surroundings. From day one the staff have always been attentive to his complex needs, and all staff are very friendly and always
available if needed. For the first time in a very long time we as a family feel more settled and confident. What we thought would be a daunting experience for him and our family was made much easier.

I was very apprehensive prior to Dad being transferred from hospital. After just one day, it was evident that I had no need to be. The nurses went the extra mile to make Dad comfortable and sorted his additional GP help.
All the staff are very friendly. (Only one slight downside was the personal hygiene
of one of the care assistants.)
With a bad experience with another home 7 years ago with my mum, High Peak Lodge has now changed my opinion of nursing homes for the better. *Fully funded care & not experienced activities.*

My wife has dementia and was a little afraid when she first came to High Peak, but the staff made her very welcome and put her at ease. I was very impressed by how clean everything was. The bedroom was newly decorated, and all the communal areas were kept clean. The staff seem to have a good understanding
of how to treat a patient with dementia. The meal are good. I noticed that the carers helped residents who couldn't eat their food. My wife can't speak very loudly and finds it difficult to attract the attention of the carers.
Overall, my experience of High Peak is excellent.

Gilwood Lodge Nursing Home

from Julie D (Daughter of Resident) published on 8 October 2025

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My mother is new to Gilwood Lodge since July 2025 and moved from another residential home.
Michelle and her team treat my mother and ourselves like family and even before she moved to the home was speaking with me about how mums living conditions could be improved for the better.
Dementia is a cruel
disease but mum is cared for and has her basic needs such as personal hygiene dealt with ( when now it seems it previously wasn't).
Mum needs specialist attention, Michelle and her team organise it and make sure myself and my family are kept updated and informed of everything.
Our thoughts and wishes for mums care are taken into consideration by every person in the home and I can sleep knowing mum is safe and I will be contacted when needed.
I cannot thank or praise Michelle or her staff more and will continue to appreciate everything they do regarding caring for mum.
Reply from Michelle Dicks, Registered Manager at Gilwood Lodge Nursing HomeThank you so much for your kind words. I will make sure that they are shared with the whole staff team

Simonsfield Residential Care Home

A number of years ago, our Mum was struck by that horrible disease dementia (and it was horrible) and we became her carer and found it almost impossible to keep her safe and well. But, luckily a saviour came along in the guise of Simonsfield care home. It was there that she became happy and calm again
and was well looked after in a way we couldn't possibly manage. We would get regular updates from the staff that she was going out to the cinema or to lunch in the pub. She would do crafts for special occasions and have parties where she would dance and sing away the afternoon with her new friends. We cannot thank the staff their enough.
She passed away recently, in her room at the care home. The staff there gave her the most dignified and peaceful end of life care possible. In her last few years at Simonsfield she had the best life she could possibly have. We owe the staff a debt we cannot possibly re-pay. Thank you.

The service was excellent;the carers attention to detail was second to none: they found out my father's interests and made conversation with him. his care was excellent as they spoon-fed him and hoisted him from bed to wheel-chair to armchair. a very impressive set-up which i would wholeheartedly recommend.
The staff were so friendly, and also extremely competent. they were able to move from one patient to another offering very good personal service.
