Choosing a care home for a loved one is incredibly difficult, but from the moment my dad became a resident here, we knew he was in the best possible hands. During his time in palliative care, the staff provided a level of care that went far beyond just professional duty. They treated him with the utmost dignity, respect, and genuine love.

At the most painful and challenging time for our family, the team was an absolute pillar of strength. They were incredibly compassionate, supportive, and attentive, not only to my dad's needs but to our family's emotional well-being too. They truly made us all feel at home whenever we visited, creating a peaceful environment filled with warmth and comfort. We can never thank them enough for the peace of mind they gave us, and for ensuring my dad received the absolute best care in his final days. They are true angels.x

Do not send your relative to this home. It is dirty, care staff were only responsive following a formal complaint. Care assistants are unprofessional, they need more training to ensure privacy and dignity of residents. Cross infection/contamination was observed including poor hand hygiene and limited use of PPE.

Staff fabricated the truth, lots of Agency staff was being used and they were often in unsafe numbers. Senior Nurse Assistant perceived herself to be qualified which resulted in neglect and difficulties in communication. Family were not informed of any illnesses which resulted in my Fathers quick demise!! Staff forgot to give him his Oxygen, personal care was limited. Complaints were not acted upon until my Father passed away, despite multiple complaints being submitted. Rooms are sweltering hot in summer and staff do nothing to make this more comfortable. Staff were observed using foul language about residents. The manager was dismissive. Documentation was poor!

My Mum went into Millfield on the 24th July for end of life care, she passed away on Sunday 27th July. In her short stay I could not fault the staff for the care she received, all the staff were very caring and compassionate not only to my Mum but to our family as well.

Thank you.

I have seen a big difference in my auntie since arriving at Millfield. The staff are amazing! Although my auntie doesn't take pert in all activities there is plenty on offer. My auntie was just surviving at her previous care home, at Millfield she is thriving. Thanks particularly to two carers.

After what was a very upsetting and stressfull time for my family . My mum went into this care home in December 2024 after suffering a massive stroke .
I really can not say enough good things about this home . After my mum received very little care and support in hospital, The staff here could not do enough for her to try and support her , as she is non verbal they have all taken the time to get to know her to understand what she wants and needs . After feeling like what was a constant battle in the hospital to make sure my mum got the care she deserved since she has been at Millfield things have been so much less stressfull and upsetting for us and my mum .They really do care about the residents and making sure they are happy . All the staff are so loverly nothing is ever to much trouble for them . We feel very lucky to have found this home and the people who work in it . it's just a really nice place and would recommend to anyone looking for a carehome for a loved one .

Thank you

I am a friend of a resident here. I assisted him making the choice of care home. From the start the staff were so welcoming & approachable. My friend moved in in October & has been very happy & feels safe & cared for. There is always activities etc to join in with & Halloween party, Christmas events etc. In my opinion this residential home is one of the best that I have seen.

Mum has been a resident for nearly 6 years - Millfield and its staff are the best in the area. The facilities (bars, lounge, shop and cafe etc) are fantastic and homely. The rooms are spacious, clean and well-presented/furnished. All staff are friendly, approachable and professional - they all feel like our extended family! They look after Mum perfectly and make her happy/comfortable. There are loads of activities and Mum is always encouraged to join in when she's able. We can't rate this home highly enough - it's perfect!

Your care home is full of the most wonderful and loving people ever. You took care of my great-grandmother until the very end. I saw the love and care you had for her, when your carer came in and kissed her on the head, in the final days of her life, whilst I was visiting her with family. You are such a compassionate bunch. Keep up the really great work.

I must write a review the staff are caring, compassionate and go well beyond their remit. My son has MND and the staff are brilliant with him and make him feel valued. No one wants to be in a care home but this home is one I would recommend highly.
A huge shout out to the ladies who interact with quizzes and activities to keep everyone amused and happy.

Thanks to you all.

The Unit Manager and Care Team have been amazing, and nothing has been too much trouble, my aunty is comfortable, well cared for and settled and looks better than she has for a long time. As a family member, I have felt continually supported and informed throughout the whole process of my aunty coming initially as a short-stay resident to now being permanent. My aunty has a nice room, with a great view of the lovely gardens.

My dad was transferred here from the hospital as he was at end of life. He was only there for approx 8 hours before he passed away. The staff are friendly enough but the home itself is not very clean. My dad's room hadn't been cleaned, there was a bin in the room that was full of rubbish. The floor was dirty and the overall decor was very outdated. I wouldn't have had my dad as a resident in there and unfortunately, as he was at end of life the hospital decided it was their choice not mine to transfer him there. I think there is a lot of room for improvement to the home and then it would be a lovely place.

Firstly we would like to offer our sincerest apologies on the loss of your father.

We are already aware that the decoration does require some updating and this is an ongoing project with some areas of the home already completed. We also note your comments in regard to the cleanliness of the home...

Absolutely shocking care home. Tell you to phone to book an appointment before you can come and see relatives yet you can ring all day every day and no one ever answers the phone. Yet when you turn up at the home majority of the staff are sat in the office feet up. Absolute disgrace. Certain staff roll their eyes at you when you ask them a simple request like can you let me out as it is key coded doors like they have no interest in actually doing their job.

My mum's been in two previous homes before this one and I can honestly say this is the best home out of them all. The staff are tremendous with all the residents and helpful. If you have a question they have time to explain things and put you at ease.

Katarzyna KapalkaJob Title:Care Home Managers

I started my nursing training in 1986 and have worked in the care sector ever since, becoming the manager at Millfield in 2018.

I always wanted to do something medical and to teach, and I am extremely lucky to have had a career in which I have been able to fulfil both of my ambitions. I have been a nurse in both the NHS and the private sectors and have lectured in the adult education sector.

My "personal" motto is: “Treat others how you wish to be treated yourself”. It is of the utmost importance that our residents are always treated with respect and dignity, and that they enjoy an enriching and fulfilling experience at Millfield.

I am married with two grown-up children and love to read, cycle and walk my dog. I am also a trustee of a local charity that runs six nurseries.
