Review of High Peak Lodge Residential & Nursing Home from Debbie W (Daughter of Resident) published on 7 September 2026 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

My Dad has very recently moved into High Peak with a view to it becoming permanent. (4wks respite) Our experience over 2 wks has been extremly positive. From the cleaner to the manager every single encounter has been friendly and consistently good. The care staff and nursing team are all full of energy and enthusiasm, very bubbly and happy. They are a wonderful team of caring individuals. My Dad has settled really well and wants to stay here because he really likes it and he happy, which is all I need and can ask for.

We wish to say thank you for the kindness, empathy and loving care every staff member gave our mum.
She was with you in Washington Lodge for 3 years and you cared for her with understanding and sensitivity. The nurses, carers and support staff are outstanding and the manager brings out the best in the staff, making it a lovely place for the residents to live. You enabled us to spend her final days with her in a peaceful and loving environment allowing us to be together and say our goodbyes.

Thank you Rachel, Mary and Caroline

Review of Walton Manor Residential and Nursing Home from Debbie M (Daughter of Resident) published on 31 August 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

It was just over 2 weeks care from 4 July to 23 July. Dad was accepted with behavioural issues after Assesment was greeted with dad didn't seem meet criteria for nursing emi bed .b and once behavioural issues dad had were mentioned bed was given at Walton manor. Dads mental health declined in short space of 2 weeks not aggressive just disruptive. Dad had unwitnessed fall and was left on floor for over 4 hours resulting in hospital visit no broken bones etc.which once ready for discharge back to home he was told home were not accepting dad back. There is long list of things happened in short space which we witnessed and addressed with manager and nursing staff also.

I have found the Home to be very homely and welcoming the staff always speak and are welcoming from answering the door to passing on a corridor. This has been a very difficult time for us as a family but mum has been welcomed and made to feel comfortable she has nothing but praise for all the staff she regularly tells me everyone is lovely if there was an issue she would definitely tell me. My dad has found this a difficult time but is still reassured that she is being looked after. Mum has joined in with activities which she is enjoying and everything from hairdressing to chiropody services are taken care of but most of all I am reassured my mum is safe and taken care of.

Review of Millfield Care Home from Lindsey F (Daughter of Resident) published on 5 August 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
Choosing a care home for a loved one is incredibly difficult, but from the moment my dad became a resident here, we knew he was in the best possible hands. During his time in palliative care, the staff provided a level of care that went far beyond just professional duty. They treated him with the utmost dignity, respect, and genuine love.

At the most painful and challenging time for our family, the team was an absolute pillar of strength. They were incredibly compassionate, supportive, and attentive, not only to my dad's needs but to our family's emotional well-being too. They truly made us all feel at home whenever we visited, creating a peaceful environment filled with warmth and comfort. We can never thank them enough for the peace of mind they gave us, and for ensuring my dad received the absolute best care in his final days. They are true angels.x

Do not send your relative to this home. It is dirty, care staff were only responsive following a formal complaint. Care assistants are unprofessional, they need more training to ensure privacy and dignity of residents. Cross infection/contamination was observed including poor hand hygiene and limited use of PPE.

Staff fabricated the truth, lots of Agency staff was being used and they were often in unsafe numbers. Senior Nurse Assistant perceived herself to be qualified which resulted in neglect and difficulties in communication. Family were not informed of any illnesses which resulted in my Fathers quick demise!! Staff forgot to give him his Oxygen, personal care was limited. Complaints were not acted upon until my Father passed away, despite multiple complaints being submitted. Rooms are sweltering hot in summer and staff do nothing to make this more comfortable. Staff were observed using foul language about residents. The manager was dismissive. Documentation was poor!

Could not be more satisfied with the care, love and attention given to my uncle by all the staff. We have never heard him make any criticism of his care or of the staff and facilities. We will always be grateful for their help and support.

My family member has been at Washington Lodge for sixteen months. We have been overwhelmed by the care, consideration and support shown. Not only to him but to all of us. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, and the management are extremely attentive. We will always be grateful for their kindness.

Avoid if you want your elderly parents to be safe from assault from other residents!
My father has been assaulted 4 times in this care home by the same woman who's allowed to wander into people's rooms and assault other residents who are immobile.
Yet , the management seem quite happy to let her roam the corridors, the only mobile person on a floor full of immobile people.
I had to stop her myself from assaulting my father, as an agency worker just stood and stared out of a window!
Reported this home to Social Services, CQC, the police and adult safeguarding..
If you look at the entrance door, it's full of good reviews, then look at the dates.
From about 4 or 5 years ago.
If this was a kennel, you wouldn't put your dog in here.
There is no safety or safeguarding as the staff are practically all agency workers, and a lot of the other carers are leaving for better care homes.
The home has little, or zero management.

This home has been in administration for years, it is so bad, nobody will actually take it over.

Over the years, several members of my family have required social care. All homes have been high quality, but pale into insignificance when compared to High Peak. Cannot speak highly enough about all the staff. They are professional, caring and are a real credit to the company. I have no hesitation in recommending High Peak to anyone requiring first class social care for a loved one.

The home is always lovely, clean and tidy. All staff are approachable, and nothing is too much trouble.

They have a variety of meals with choice. The staff go above and beyond when it's a resident's birthday, Easter, Christmas, providing extra activities including buffet and singers, etc. Weekly entertainment - dominoes, trips out to bingo.

My father has been a resident since July 2023. Always received constant care and attention. Recently moved rooms to be on ground floor, nearer office to be kept an eye on, due to him wandering away from his room. Medical updates and phone calls to inform the family always.

My father had mixed dementia and challenging behaviours which meant he could no longer be cared for at home. We brought dad to Washington Lodge from a another care home and from the minute he was collected from the car we knew he was in the right place. He has been looked after and cared for wonderfully by all the team, ensuring he was clean, shaven and had dignity in his final months. He was spoken to as a human being, not a "resident", and we were made to feel part of a community. Thank you to everyone who cared for my dad, and also for looking after us in difficult times.

My brother was moved from hospital to the nursing home. As his family we are very happy with his care. The staff are all professional in their approach. He is well cared for. I cannot comment on the food as I have never been there when meals are served, or seen activities so cannot comment. Value for money have no idea of the costs. Thank you so much for his care.

My cousin is receiving palliative care at Washington Lodge Nursing Home. As I live in Hertfordshire I have only managed to drive up to visit him on 3 occasions, however, on each visit I have been so impressed with the kindness, patience and care he is receiving. The whole nursing home has such a friendly and homely feeling that I associate with the North East of England. They nursing home is spotlessly clean and the manager and all the staff are always so helpful. Many thanks.
