Bowerfield House Nursing Home

My wife was admitted in July 2026 from the meadows hospital who looked after her for 6 months. They were excellent in every way and l was worried about her continuing care. I had no need to worry the care and treatment she receives in this nursing home is excellent in so many ways a continuing treatment from the meadows. Her room is well equipped and clean, the food is very good and I must congratulate the chief. The staff are caring and supportive of her and i feel happy when I leave her that she is being cared for. The manager is very helpful and supportive and she will always answer any questions I have. All in all i am happy to recommend to anyone this nursing home as i am very grateful to all the staff for looking after my wife.

My mother in law was in Bowerfield for 3 weeks respbite care after a hospital stay. The care she received was very good; all the staff were lovely and really got to know Marie in the time she was there even the main receptionist and manager took the time to talk & get to know her. Very loving staff.

A good manager and a very good team. My husband went to Bowerfield House in April 2025. He was on respite for almost 2 weeks. He was well taken care of and adjusted well to the environment. The care staff were present and helpful.

I think carers could devote more time to one-to-one interaction with residents but overall, day staff are warm and friendly. Cannot comment on night staff.

My review of staff only refers to day staff. I have no experience with night staff but I have the uneasy feeling that they need supervision. I may be wrong but I'm going to bring it up at the next meeting on 13th August 2024. Day care is improving since new manager took over. As stated, I have no experience with night staff.

However, regarding any problems/issues Mother has experienced these were discussed with me and dealt with accordingly. Staff are always patient, kind and attentive.

Brilliant care home. Staff lovely, such a friendly atmosphere. Cleanliness very good, and residents well cared for.

Superb people looking after my mother-in-law. They always care so much and know just how to calm her anxiety. I cannot praise them highly enough.

The home put on an evening meal service for families to enjoy with residents. The food and atmosphere were top-class, it was a lovely evening.

Please could we have the sofa back in the lounge - it's hard to hug across two armchairs but easy sitting on a sofa!

It’s a good place to be, the care is amazing and the carers go above and beyond. The food is tasty and well prepared. Everywhere is clean and tidy. Activities are brilliant, there is always something on the go. Thank you all for everything you do for us.

Bowerfield House is organised, friendly and very accommodating, with staff that are a joy to be around, both for patients and their relatives.

So happy with the care my mum is receiving. As a resident of over four years, she has had a number of caregivers and all have been exceptional. Throughout lockdown, I received regular updates and photos, which helped a lot. Can’t praise this home enough.

My husband has been in Bowerfield since February. 'Settling-in' issues were expected - carers need time to get to know him and his condition. Bowerfield, like so many care homes currently, is struggling to cope with staff recruitment and retention and this clearly has had, and is having, an effect on care standards. An important aspect of a resident's dementia care is having a regular routine, but this is an impossibility if staffing levels are below those needed. Safety matters can so easily be overlooked because current staff are under such pressure all the time. I find the staff to be very caring and so anxious to please. They all seem to be so happy! The nursing team are lovely and when medical care is needed, waste no time in resolving matters. The manager is most approachable and having already raised some concerns, these were dealt with to a degree. When asked, my husband says he is comfortable and snug. That's a great reassurance and credit to those around him.

My mum has been at Bowerfield House for eight years. She has advanced dementia. Overall, the quality of care has been very good. The carers are kind and helpful and the accommodation is well laid out for people with dementia. Mum has a ground floor room (ensuite) with direct level access to the lounge area. The staff understand dementia and so wandering and other issues that come with the illness are accepted. I know that when we looked at other homes for Mum they were sometimes intolerant of that kind of behaviour.

Staff working with the residents is most important and this is where the home is lucky to have good caring workers.
