Lady of the Vale Nursing Home is located in Bowdon Vale, Altrincham and provides nursing care and support for up to 38 residents. The home itself was built in the early 1930’s. The continuous investment and refurbishment programmes have introduced modern care facilities whilst maintaining the heritage and character of the home. The home also has a beautiful chapel on site where mass is held daily.

Staff training and development is fundamental to their services and they are proud of their dedication and commitment. Staff are also encouraged to share ideas, knowledge and experience throughout the home.

The home operates an ‘open door’ policy and promotes a Duty of Candour. They continuously review what they do in order to improve the quality of care provided and strive to be the best they can be.

The staff are all extremely welcoming. My mother has been made to feel at home, something which has been a concern to all the family. A lovely atmosphere, very clean, food cooked on site and varied and enjoyed by our mother.

My brother was in a lovely room, looking out onto the trees and garden. The nurses and staff looked after him very kindly with much patience and gentleness. The home has a family feel, and everyone is at ease with one another. The home is nicely furnished and very clean. The food is well prepared and
varied. They are angels.

My ex-husband was treated wonderfully during his time at Lady of the Vale Nursing Home. All his visitors were welcomed and treated brilliantly. The standards at this home are simply excellent. The staff were so caring so helpful and so accommodating. The whole building was so clean we had peace of mind
whilst he was at this nursery home, they couldn't do enough for him. If I become so ill I would like to spend my last days at Lady of the Vale.

My dad transferred from hospital to Lady of the Vale and spent the last week of his earthly life there. He was made comfortable, he was checked on regularly, his pain and discomfort was managed with great skill and care. The staff also took time to look after us and make sure we were happy with the
care being provided and to offer tea, coffee, biscuits and other types of food. Nothing was too much for them. I will be forever grateful that my dad was looked after here - I could not ask for more.
Reply from Godfrey Taderera, Home Manager at Lady of the Vale Nursing HomeThank you, very much for the review. My team and myself value and appreciate the fact that our actions had such a profound impact on you and the family.

The service provided by the manager and his whole team is amazing. The overall atmosphere is serene, comforting and relaxed, with nothing too much for the staff to respond to with a smile and a pleasantry. My wife has been in their care since July, and I have reserved my time before commenting, and
I cannot fault anything. The level of care from all staff members has to be experienced, and I find visiting a pleasant experience in rather sad circumstances as everyone is so welcoming on my twice daily visits. Absolutely no hesitation in recommending.
Reply from Godfrey Taderera, Home Manager at Lady of the Vale Nursing HomeThank you very much for your review; it means so much to myself and the team. We will continue to do our best; with your support, the job is a lot easier.

Since the new manager has taken over at Bowdon Vale there have been various changes. The manager is very approachable and always welcoming. Any questions raised are answered fully and explanations are detailed. There is a new activities coordinator who seems very keen to include as many residents as
possible. The 'Dog Appreciation Day' yesterday was really well received by the residents, relatives and staff. The staff, both new and longstanding are wonderful, and caring and always treat residents with dignity.
Reply from Godfrey Taderera, Home Manager at Lady of the Vale Nursing HomeThank you for you feedback, myself and my team really appreciate this.

The compassion and care shown to my husband by the staff of Lady of the Vale Nursing Home was first class. He was treated with dignity and kindness and every member of staff worked hard to create a peaceful environment and to make him comfortable at all times.
This compassion extended to my family
and we were always made welcome. This brought great comfort to us.

The kindness, dedication and care towards my mother-in-law have helped us to accept the ugliness of dementia.
Timely communication with my husband and I is one important factor that enhances our trust in the Lady of the Vale Nursing Home staff.
For her 100th birthday, the manager and the staff showed
absolute kindness and love and made sure we could celebrate with her, within the lockdown restrictions at the time.
I just wish she were in a slightly bigger room, with enough space for the two screens she uses to be accommodated properly: the tv and the computer screen which allows our 'virtual, daily chats'.
Reply from Jane Abdoh, Home Manager at Lady of the Vale Nursing HomeThank you for your kind words.
It is a pleasure to be able to look after your relative in what has been extremely difficult times for everyone.
Her 100th birthday celebration was just what was needed and it was an occasion enjoyed by everyone particularly your mother-in-law.

Courteous, kind, considerate, attentive - these are just a few of the words which describe the care Mum has received since coming to Lady of the Vale in April 2021. The staff do everything they can to support both Mum and the family in these very difficult times. Our gratitude and thanks to them all.

The care and attention my mother has received for the past 2 1/2 years at Lady of the Vale has been excellent. From the management staff, nursing staff, domestic staff, kitchen staff and maintenance staff the care has been second to none. We as a family feel we have made the right choice for our mother
to be cared for at this lovely home.

My mother spent the last two of her life here and the staff were wonderful. She was always clean and the bedding too was spotless. (Any "Accidents" were dealt with swiftly and with minimum fuss) The staff were endlessly patient when persuading her to eat and went to great lengths to try and help her
pain-free, The overall atmosphere was one of warmth and compassion not only to her but also to the family.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.898)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.898) out of 10 for Lady of the Vale Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.923 for Lady of the Vale Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (205 Excellents x 5) + (13 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 220 Ratings = 4.923
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Lady of the Vale Nursing Home is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 39 registered maximum number of service users is 7.8, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

I have managed many homes but Lady of the Vale is special. It has a very calming atmosphere. It’s an old building with lots of character and lovely grounds; with a lot of staff who have worked here a long time and so are full of stories from the past. We work together as a team to provide the best care possible, we support one another in sad times but also have lots of laughs. We are a family.
