My mum has been a resident within Beech House for over 2 years. The care staff are amazing. Mum is very well looked after. Her needs are taken into account and she receives 24/7 support. I am kept informed of any changes, any medical requirements and also receive follow-up calls from medical staff,
when required. All the staff within the unit are friendly and attentive to all their residents. Events are celebrated within the unit, i.e., Chinese New Year, Easter, Xmas and the communal room decorated, encouraging all to be involved. Selection of activities could maybe be increased. But overall I believe Beech House to be a lovely place to be looked after.
Reply from Lisa Casey, Home Manager at Rowan Garth Care VillageIt's lovely to know our celebrations and community spirit make Beech House feel like home. We also appreciate your comments regarding activities and will take this on board as we continue to enhance the experience for all residents. Thank you

My friend Gail who has dementia is treated with respect and kindness by all of the staff (ie everyone including cleaners). They are very patient and understanding in all circumstances including her changing moods. Rowan Garth appears clean and residents look cared for she can't engage with all activities
but the person involved spends time with her reminiscing etc with her.
Reply from Patrick Murphy, Home Manager at Rowan Garth Care VillageWe're delighted to hear that Gail is treated with respect, patience and kindness by all members of our team.
It's especially lovely to know that she is supported in ways that are meaningful to her, including spending time reminiscing. Thank you for your feedback.

The change in my dad since being here is amazing. He is the happiest he has been in years, he's eating properly, and is joining in socially with everything offered to him (usually he shies away). The staff are beautiful, and are so involved with all residents. I couldn't ask for anything more than what
my dad receives here. I'm happy because he's happy. Thank you.

July 2024 and my dad has been in hospital since November 2023 (9 months!) with two breaks in his back and two in his hip following an unwitnessed fall in Rowan Garth - he was there less than a month and was admitted to hospital twice! Social Services initiated a safeguarding inquiry and Rowan Garth
were found to be negligent in their care of my father from a falls perspective but also his medication was changed by the hospital and they did not read the instructions properly and gave him two lots of medication that could have caused him serious harm. The way we have been treated by Rowan Garth as a family is appalling - you would think that it was us who were at fault.
Further, £50 of my dad's money has never been returned to us despite it being deposited with the Manager. Clothes were stolen - not the supermarket ones... no, branded names and football tops etc. £270 glasses disappeared. The General Manager ignored all letters.
Appalling place.
Reply from Julie Veritiero, Operations Manager at Rowan Garth Care VillageDear T L, we sincerely apologise for the distress you and your family experienced regarding your father's care at Rowan Garth. I have been a resident at Beach House since December 2023 and have found the management and staff have treated me with dignity and kindness to make me welcome and feel at home.
The management put on musical shows daily, games, like bingo etc., and also have baking classes for the residents and in the
spring and summer, there will be days out for residents wishing to take part.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.861)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.861) out of 10 for Rowan Garth Care Village is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 17 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.428 for Rowan Garth Care Village is calculated as follows: ( (119 Excellents x 5) + (62 Goods x 4) + (13 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (6 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 201 Ratings = 4.428
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.433 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Rowan Garth Care Village is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 150 registered maximum number of service users is 30. 16 Positive Reviews ÷ 30 = 0.533
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
