The care my Mum received at Heather House was excellent. The considerate and caring attitude of the day and night staff during my Mum's say until her death was very professional and the consideration shown to her and her family in her last days will always be appreciated by the family.

This is the best care home my father has used for respite care. The staff are friendly but very professional and the care they give the residents is second to none. Very clean and tidy in all areas. They treat the residents with care and dignity, I couldn't fault them. This home had a really bad reputation
but, since another provider has taken over, it has been turned around and is now a wonderful residential home. I would highly recommend it.

Having stayed in Rowan Garth for nearly a month and I have nothing but praise for the whole establishment, carers are second to none in this City. Having had experience elsewhere. I have nothing but the kindest thoughts of Rowan Garth Care Home, however, if people aren't sure I will see that they are
aware of the care at Rowan Garth.

The care home has shown improvement since the new manager has been appointed. The food has started to improve but the choices are a little bazaar at times. The staff on duty work hard and do their best as at times, the unit I visit is short staffed with some very needy residents. A good motto which
I feel would display well around all your care home is "Our residents do not live in our workplace, we work in their home". Overall, it is a satisfactory place, with some room for improvement.

My mother in law spent 3 very unhappy weeks in Rowan Garth. It had inadequate staff numbers to deal with her condition and failed to provide a full and safe caring environment. Family members visiting found her in a state of dehydration, confusion and in a state of incontinence. One occasion she needed
to use the toilet, staff were approached and was told to tell her to hang on for 5 minutes. They were on a break, drinking tea and could not be bothered to assist. Another member of staff (newly employed) managed to get help but it took a full 10 minutes from the time of asking for help and help arriving. We are disgusted and dismayed at her treatment, she was readmitted to hospital in a very dehydrated state with bed sores and blistered feet which is an indication that she had not been moved in the bed for a long time. The hospital has also made a complaint about the delay in letting her get into such a dangerous state of dehydration before calling an ambulance.

My mother has now been in Rowan Garth for 13 months and we are very happy with the care she receives; however the system of entry for family to visit is extremely stressful, It can take several rings on the bell and up to 10 minutes to answer. I will no longer visit my mother on my way home from work
in the winter. ( I would very much appreciate being contacted to discuss this further) It is because this system it is very unlikely that I would recommend Rowan Garth to family or friends.

I found, visiting my mother was soul destroying, not so for her but for the other residents who always seemed to need someone to do something for them. I often thought if you employed carers the residents would be more comfortable in every way, especially for those who seldom got a visitor. During the
two years of my mother's stay I had to purchase 38 pairs of trousers and numerous other items of clothing ( I washed my mothers clothes myself) only to find they would disappear and often reappear on other residents. Your advert on TV and radio make me sick and is most definitely not a true reflection of the care and conditions at Rowan Garth. However this is no reflection on the staff employed just that there should be more. Often I would find my mum soaked in her own urine and it is this fact that would make me very unlikely to recommend Rowan Garth

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.861)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.861) out of 10 for Rowan Garth Care Village is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 17 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.428 for Rowan Garth Care Village is calculated as follows: ( (119 Excellents x 5) + (62 Goods x 4) + (13 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (6 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 201 Ratings = 4.428
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.433 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Rowan Garth Care Village is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 150 registered maximum number of service users is 30. 16 Positive Reviews ÷ 30 = 0.533
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I’m Patrick, the Home Manager at Rowan Garth and a Registered Nurse with a career in healthcare spanning from the age of 18. I began as a Healthcare Assistant at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital before completing my nurse training at Liverpool John Moores University.

Over the past five years, I’ve had the privilege of leading a large, complex nursing home delivering dementia nursing, general nursing, an NHS step-down unit, and dementia residential care. During this time, the service achieved a “Good” rating in all key areas with the CQC and “Excellent” with the local authority.

I’m now proud to be supporting Rowan Garth, with a clear focus on delivering high-quality, person-centred care and achieving the same strong outcomes.

I look forward to welcoming you to Rowan Garth.
