Albeit the home is decorated nicely unfortunately the resident's rooms are extremely small box rooms. Couldn’t put mums bed in the middle of the room for lifting reasons, it was too small. The en-suite toilet doesn’t allow wheelchair access. Pointless tbh!
More suitable for residential care rather than nursing in my opinion.

The staff seemed nice and helpful, even handymen always looking to help.

My mother is well cared for. When I have been unable to visit due to COVID infections, most of the time I have been able to have video calls with Mum. This has enabled me to assess Mum's condition. It is sometimes difficult to get through on the phone. Any issues I have raised have been dealt with promptly.

It is most frustrating trying to get access when you have booked a visit, you can ring the doorbell for sometimes 20 minutes before you get a response. I have never got in on time. I don't understand why when your visit time is in the book? This is a problem for most visitors I have talked to.

I am full of admiration and respect for the work that the care and nursing staff carry out at the home. The biggest shortcoming overall relates to communication. It has been difficult to stay in touch with my mum, particularly during periods where no visiting has been permitted. On many occasions, it has been difficult to get through on the telephone or to contact via messenger. It would be helpful if improvements could be made in this area in future.

Overall service is good. More communication needed eg, after hospital appointments before and after. Staff always friendly and polite. Dad seems to have a good, healthy relationship with all staff.

Staff are the main reason for the good review. During the lockdown, they have kept in touch via FaaceTime and the website. My mum has been kept safe, and during recent visits, I have witnessed the kindness and care that the staff have shown to many residents. They have also shown empathy to relatives who couldn't see their relatives as often as they would like. I can't praise the staff enough. My mum is happy in Alexandra, and that my main focus.

The staff are friendly and supportive. Perhaps a little updating needed. The main thing is my mother's care and needs are very well administrated. She feels safe and happy.

I was very warmly welcomed on arrival, at a very inconvenient time of evening due to a shortage of ambulances and bad weather. I was given a hot drink and was shown to my room and introduced to members of staff.

My mother was admitted from hospital and stayed for about 2 months. Because of the pandemic I was not able to go inside the home at all, but the activities coordinator was excellent in facilitating FaceTime calls at short notice. The nurses were caring and committed, easy to talk to and always returned calls. They still cared when she had a return to hospital and then when she died. Her health deteriorated but, despite always saying she did not want to go into care, always seemed content and calm and well looked after. Before she was admitted I was very apprehensive, but any fears were unfounded.

Review from Linda M (Daughter of Resident) published on 5 June 2020 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
During the last few years, my mother (98) has been a resident at Alexandra Care Home. Her choice of care home was based on the fact that she had been there briefly for a short respite period and was very keen to make it her new home.
The staff at Alexandra are always pleased to see visitors and are always willing to help in any way that they can to listen and resolve any requests or issues. And when I say staff I mean from the admin staff, catering staff, laundry and of the course the carers.
It may not be the most lavish care home in the area but Alexandra has a heart which I see on my visits and I hear from my mother about the kindness of staff.

I can recommend Alexandra as a family home away from home.

We owe a huge thank you to all the kind and caring staff who have been looking after our mum. It was only a short term visit but during that time we were all impressed with the genuine care shown by staff. During the terrible coronavirus pandemic, when visiting had to stop they were happy to pass on messages and tell us how her day had gone. We also felt that it was a bright and airy building which was always spotless. Thank you all again.

I can't praise the staff enough at Alexandra Care Home for their kindness and thoughtfulness they showed to my mum during her stay there following a nasty fall.
Their attention to detail to ensure her physical and emotional needs were cared for was exceptional.
Their approach is person-centred and they ensure all residents are included in the wide range of activities provided by the staff and activities support staff.
The place is warm, friendly and homely and has a lovely welcoming atmosphere.

Thank you for all your hard work and the time spent making sure my mum's stay was a happy one.

I had no experience of care homes until mum needed to move to one - I had heard all the bad stories on the news and was extremely apprehensive - I needn't have worried. The home manager was helpful and professional from the assessment onwards. The staff nurses and carers are wonderful. Mum loves them all as family, she calls them "her girls".

If I have to point out one negative it would be the decor in mum's room but the excellent care compensates this.

My mum has been in a number of care homes, but this one is the best. The staff are excellent, they are good with the residents and the lady that does the activities is brilliant, she really gets them joining in and sometimes they have a great laugh.
My mum is happy and settled and the staff know her likes and dislikes.

It is very homely and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a care home.
