Birkdale Park is a delightfully converted Edwardian property set within beautifully maintained grounds. Established in 1988 it is only a short walk away from the shops of Lord Street, the trees of Victoria Park or the sands of Southport Beach and Promenade.

The home provides 24 hour care for geriatric, stroke, convalescent and terminally ill patients, including: residential, respite, nursing and advance palliative care.

Through a planned programme of care, in partnership with the service user, Birkdale Park will endeavour to cater for each person's individual needs, ensure freedom of choice, preserve dignity, promote independence, encourage autonomy and, with health and safety taken into consideration, continue care in a setting as near as possible to their normal home environment.

All staff are highly trained and are rigorously selected including a comprehensive police check with the DBS.

Weekly Charges per Person

  • Self-Funded Nursing Care: £1200 – £1500

Fees quoted are the residential room rate only and based on facilities such as (ensuite, ground floor, garden access etc) but may also be increased due to level of personal care dependency. Respite is for a minimum period of 2 weeks. Please note that the costs quoted are the room costs only. Funding Nursing Care (FNC) if assessed and granted is retained by the Birkdale Park to cover the necessary costs for the specialist nursing care and clinical supervision for that individual. Weekly hair dressing is available and approx £12-£20 dependent on treatment eg Cut and Blow - Cut and Set. Other chargeable services could include physio or podiatry. All rooms have TV and WIFI. There are no other costs.

Although my mum was only at Birkdale Park Nursing Home for a few months I felt that she received a very high standard of care at all times.
The care home is a friendly and welcoming place with a lovely team of staff and a wide range of activities provided for the residents.
Unfortunately, my mum
passed away in January but the care and dignity that she and us as her family received meant such a lot to us during a very difficult time.

My partner moved into Birkdale Park Nursing Home after a sudden and severe stroke. He has been left with a lot of needs and is non-verbal. In our experience, all the staff are amazing - dedicated to their residents and also the relatives. They take time to get to know you well, meaning they can meet
known needs and anticipate problems. It is a comfortable and happy environment in which I can be sure he is getting the care he needs. I can also take his dog in to visit which is wonderful for his mental health too. It is truly the next best thing to having him at home with me.

Mum made me promise I would never 'put' her in a care home, so it was with a heavy heart that the decision was taken out of my hands. However, I can say that I now have a light heart! To date, I have spent 5-8 hours a day for a total of thirty days with my mother and feel I know the care home very well.
I have a strong belief that those in their later stages of life deserve the absolute best, with full respect and dignity. This is the prime reason I am rating Birkdale Park Nursing Home so highly. The staff have made both myself and my mother feel very welcome and very special, no matter how challenging their days might be sometimes. I am very conscious that it takes a whole team to make things work so well and so would like to give credit to everyone involved. There is a lovely, warm atmosphere, with staff sensitive to when it's ok to have a laugh, as well as to provide the right words in those more sensitive moments. Nothing was ever any trouble, even when I had some unusual requests! Fully recommend.

Just a brilliant, caring and humour-filled place. Really felt that my sister was in a safe, organised home with all she needed for her fairly short stay.

Birkdale Park Nursing Home has been very welcoming. All the carers are extremely kind and will do anything for you. The nurses who sort out the medical needs and medication have been very thorough and helpful. The housekeeping staff have done an excellent job. The kitchen staff have been excellent accommodating
to all my requirements and the food is always hot.

I have been seriously ill this year with several slipped discs, and an emergency eye operation, but I was fully confident that my brother would continue to be looked after with the excellent care he normally gets, and knew that he was, and still is in the safest of hands. The standard of care he gets
is excellent and attentive, both from the nursing staff, and from the manager himself. It's because my brother is so happy that It took the worry away from me when my illnesses were at their worst, and during my convalescence now. For these reasons, I would not hesitate to recommend Birkdale Park Nursing Home to anybody.

My mum has been in Birkdale Park for a few months now, and I must say her care has been really good. The staff are caring and have got to know Mum personally. I can visit anytime and can ask the staff any questions I might have about Mum's care. I would definitely recommend Birkdale Park to anyone looking

I would like to take the time to praise the work of and staff at Birkdale Park Nursing Home specifically in relation to the loving care provided to my mum, Sybil.
My mum has been a resident for over 8 years now and the love and attention that she receives is outstanding.
It’s a real relief to the
family that our mum is in a safe place, attended to constantly, treated with utmost dignity and is kept safe, warm and loved.

My mother has been a resident at Birkdale Park Nursing Home since February and I am very satisfied with the home. The staff are all friendly and helpful from the ladies at reception on first entering to all the care and domestic staff (the lovely ladies in the kitchen always make us a brew), and we
feel my mum is very well looked after. The nurses are all approachable and very happy to speak to me to discuss any concerns or questions I may have relating to her care and make a point of ringing me to advise of any issues or medical-related points. The entertainment lady does an excellent job and the residents look forward to the fab quiz which goes down well on a Wednesday! My mum really enjoys the opportunity to have a bath as her mobility is extremely limited and loves having her hair done by the excellent hairdressers. One of her highlights is being taken out for a drive in the wheelchair-adapted van or having a walk into town or around the lake. To sum up, I feel she is happy and settled.

This is a very well run nursing home with a fabulous team of staff who are all exceptional at their jobs, they really care for their residents (and families) and nothing is ever too much trouble.
I have peace of mind that my dad who has been here since February is in very safe hands and well cared
for in this loving and friendly home.

My partner was discharged to Birkdale Park from hospital following a severe stroke. The staff are excellent, always caring and friendly and happy to answer all my questions. They take great care to find out what his likes and dislikes are in food, drink, music or anything that makes him happy, particularly
as he is currently nonverbal. I feel they make an extra effort as he has this difficulty in communication. The facilities at the home are excellent too and visitors are made very welcome at any time of the day. As a relative I find the link to the Relatives Gateway very informative, I can see when he eats, how much he drinks when he has his medication, if he uses his buzzer and how his night was, all reassuring to know at any time. In my opinion, he is in the best possible place for his current needs.

Birkdale Park Nursing Home manages so well to combine great friendly care and kindness with high standards of competence in nursing. Such a combination gave me all the confidence and assurance I needed so badly to recover from acute surgery. The demands of sufficient staffing levels, generosity under
pressure at times of high residents' demands and disciplined doctoring by nursing professionals - they do all this so well in a family feeling.

Jonathan Cunningham

Job Title: Registered Care Manager Joined: 2016

Jonathan is the Registered Care Manager and eldest son of the owner Mrs Cunningham. Birkdale Park is very special to Jonathan as it is where he grew up as a child and watched the home convert into a nursing home in the mid 1980s. Room 27 is his old bedroom! Jonathan has had a varied career. He spent 16 years in the Army reaching the rank of Major, he was awarded an MBE in 2010 for operational service and now uses all his leadership skills at Birkdale Park leading his amazing care team. He has been awarded multiple awards for services to social care and is a regular voice and face on radio and TV speaking about his passion for elderly care. He loves his team and his role as a registered care manager. He is the continuity over the care home and provides a calm hand of reassurance to staff, residents and relatives. He describes himself as the 'Captian of the ship' as the buck stops with him. All relatives have his personal mobile number so you have fabulous connection with the home and continual reassurance that your loved one is in good hands.
