Safe Harbour Nursing Home Bebington is located in Wirral, Merseyside and provides personal care, dementia nursing care and support to people aged over 65 living with dementia. There are keypad locks on external doors and doors leading to stairwells for safety reasons.

The home is in a purpose-built detached building in a residential road in Bebington, Wirral. There are courtyard gardens in the centre of the home and small well-maintained grounds around the building, as well as a car park located to the side.

The home has 47 bedrooms over two floors, some of which are en-suite with toilet and sink and there is access to each floor via a lift. Each floor has its own dining room and lounge. They care for both Residential and Nursing care Ladies and Gents.

There is a secure garden, with a ramp up to the 'Lighthouse', a building with electricity and water that is used in the warmer months. They offer a private dining area for celebrations and encourage families to join in with monthly events. This also allows them to raise money for the fabulous activities team.

Since my dad was diagnosed with vascular dementia in his 60s, we have struggled to find appropriate support. Many homes that claimed to offer dementia support could not cope with my dad’s “wandering”, and his worsening cognitive ability inside a fit and active body.


Safe Harbour has been the only

residential facility where staff have been unfazed by my dad’s needs. As a specialist dementia setting for EMI residential (and nursing), staff are capable and positive about calming, distracting and reassuring my dad when he is confused and distressed.


Nobody wants to face the reality of putting a loved one into care. But our distress was worsened by finding so few settings that were willing to work with us as we took this next step. Finding Safe Harbour was a blessing, and we are grateful to the staff for all that they do. Thank you.

My husband has been in the home for four years, and I am very pleased with the care he receives. The staff have gone above and beyond at this very difficult time. They have always kept me informed regarding the care my husband requires and make me feel welcome and involved.

Mum is so happy here; she loves having the company of other residents and the staff. They have daily activities and post regular photos, so relatives can see the fun that they are all having. The home is very clean and welcoming, and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. I am so very grateful to

My wife suffers from Alzheimer's and has been a resident at Safe Harbour since June of this year. The family cannot speak too highly about the quality of service she is receiving. The staff are wonderful - all of them - and it would be unfair to single anyone out. Covid continues to cause major problems
within the sector, but despite the effects, it is having on day-to-day organisation and staffing levels, they have maintained the same high level of care for the residents. It really is a home in every sense of the word, and although my wife's condition can be challenging at times, she often tells me how much she enjoys being there, and the family wouldn't wish for her to be anywhere else.


We would have no hesitation in recommending Safe Harbour to anyone whose relatives need this type/level of care.

I cannot praise the home enough. Every member of staff I have had the pleasure of meeting is dedicated, compassionate, cheerful and extremely hard working. Each resident is treated as an individual, and the care provided is tailored to their specific needs. Safe Harbour is well maintained inside and
out. The environment is homely clean, and the decoration is dementia-friendly. The team often contribute beyond their working hours to raise funds to benefit our loved ones. My father has been a resident since 2017, and the home has gone from strength to strength. Myself and my family value the steps taken to be kept informed and involved in all aspects of Dad's care, for us, this is crucial. The door is always open or there is someone at the end of the phone if you need to talk. I must also mention the Covid crisis and thank everyone for keeping our relatives safe and well cared for in such trying times. At Safe Harbour, you are made to feel welcome visiting, and support is always on hand if needed.

Moving a loved one into a care home can be stressful and is emotional. The staff made the transition for us and, more importantly, for her an easy and caring process. She has not looked this well cared for a long time and has joined in with everything that she's been invited to! There is always something
for her to do, and she can safely walk around and go back to her room if she feels like it. The staff are great, so patient and with just the right amount of affection for the residents. As things open up, after Covid, we look forward to becoming part of the Safe Harbour community with social and fundraising events to support them.

I can't believe how brilliantly the settling in period went! So calm and with such humour. All of the activities have been well received, which can be difficult with new people, in particular, as we do not yet know them as well as others, but no problem at all! The care given is excellent to the client. I can see how happy she is, though, at present, everything is different due to Covid. They provide warmth, reassurance, help and respond quickly to emails if need too. The food provided is also very good, and the activities provided by staff are also excellent,
seeing regular updates on their page is lovely to see also.

The social media pages are certainly a good place to start and see what we do, it is certainly a project, but it is important to show what we're doing, even if only snippets! My dad has lived here for around 4-years now. He is well cared for by a reliable staff team, who treat him not just with dignity but like family. I am always safe in the knowledge that Dad is given the absolute best level of support for his needs. I can call anytime night or day to check how my dad
is doing, which is reassuring, especially with restrictions in place due to the pandemic, which the management and staff have handled incredibly! I highly recommend this home.

Our father has been in Safe Harbour for over a year now, and we have nothing but good things to say about the care he receives, especially during such a difficult time. Staff are kind, caring, generous with their time and understanding of both my father's needs, treating him with dignity and respect,
and my mother when she visits him. We consistently feel we made the best and right choice in sending Dad to Safe Harbour - the next best thing he could have to being at home.

Some of the permanent staff are excellent, caring and compassionate. However, their post-death care is appalling.
My mum died in February due to a seizure. When I was called into the home, a carer/nurse said "do you want to see her body now"? She was quickly told by the attending Paramedic to "please
leave us alone for a minute" and he apologised on her behalf as he could see I was upset.
I have had zero contact with the management of the home since her death or at the time of her death.
No phone calls, no emails, no letters. I even got a card from my vet when my dog died.
One of the carers kindly called me to ask what I wanted to do with my mum's jewellery but that's all.
One call from their management team would have gone a long way, especially to someone like me who has absolutely no idea how the coroner/death/funeral process works.
They need training and guidance on how to handle the death of a resident because currently, it is extremely poor.

We’re sorry to hear this. This year alone, over 50 emails were sent regarding Covid, Vaccines, Newsletters, Meetings, Visits, Care plan reviews and photos of Mum. We understand not all relatives want to visit during the pandemic and don’t want to be part of care plan meetings, this is a personal choice. I asked the care staff to call you via her mobile as I knew you were friendly, and I couldn’t get through. I had just received an email from your brother to collect Mum's photos, given the situation I felt we needed to mediate promptly to ensure both parties were happy. I stayed late to ensure that I could deal with this and the correct items were given out. All staff are trained in end of life, due to the circumstances, our staff did everything they should. Our Nurse was emotional, it’s an emotional job, staff develop strong bonds with residents. As I said to you face to face, I understand how hard it is to lose someone during a pandemic when contact is limited. Mum will be greatly missed.

Mum arrived in safe harbour 12-months ago after being diagnosed with dementia and Alzheimer's, she was a shadow of her former self. Now, even having been locked-down for the majority of that year, she is much more like her old self, smiling and laughing and has also gained much-needed weight. I cannot
thank the staff enough; they're all lovely people, and they have been fantastic with my Mum since the day she arrived. I also know my Mum cares deeply for all of them, and I genuinely don't believe she would be with us today if it wasn't for them. Our gratitude is immeasurable, knowing she is loved and cared for despite us being unable to be there cannot be put into words.

My mum has been with Safe Harbour for just over a year now, and I wouldn’t want her to be anywhere else, all the staff are amazing so caring and kind. It has been such a difficult year not being able to see her, but knowing she is loved and cared for gives me such peace of mind. The last time we saw
her was through the ground floor window and she was laughing with the staff and having a glass of wine, Mum not the staff! From the management to the activities organiser (which is always varied and makes me laugh seeing what she’s up to) they are just all fab, it’s great to receive pictures of our relatives laughing and smiling, especially during these daunting times. Thank you for loving my mum.

A very friendly, caring home. The activities team are hard-working and dedicated to providing daily entertainment for the residents. They are also good at finding the time to keep families connected with their relative.

It was a real concern when it became clear my mum would need residential care; that we wouldn't be able to find a place we felt would do the best for her. We went to see different settings, and it was the staff at Safe Harbour and the rapport they built easily with us and Mum, even before she was a
resident, which made the difference. I genuinely feel the management and care team have become an extended family for Mum and us. The team are creative when putting together activities and events for the residents, and it seems there is always something to celebrate! Staff are very responsive and proactive about keeping us up-to-date. There are an open attitude and ready willingness to help from all staff and a culture of positivity. I honestly don't think we could have found a better place for Mum.
In addition, throughout the most challenging of times since March 2020, Safe Harbour has been one step ahead of the guidelines for keeping the residents and staff safe. We can't thank the team enough.

The home is well kept, bright and clean. All of the staff, including carers, housekeeping, admin, caterers and maintenance interact with residents, and overall, there is a community/family atmosphere. Staff work hard to keep residents entertained and interacting with various activities, which have been
priceless throughout this pandemic.
The staff keep the family informed on important issues arising, and are always willing to listen and discuss concerns we have. We are so happy we chose Safe Harbour for Mum.

We’re lucky to have a core staff at SafeHarbour Care Home that knows Mum from the day she came to live there, her care is consistently good, and the reassurance that gives our family is invaluable.
Mum has strong bonds with care staff, she has also friendship bonds with other residents too.
The activities
that take place at the home to engage the residents aren’t always to Mums liking! She was never a great socialiser or bingo player etc.
But the staff go out of their way to find out what it is Mum does enjoy and encourage those stimulating activities too! Music and singing, films, reflexology and having her help with little ‘jobs’ around her environment.

Thanks for this review, Mum is really happy and settled at Safe Harbour. Mum enjoys bathing the babies, helping with dusting, and will engage in some arts and crafts but not always, sometimes she just prefers to monitor. Mums favourite activities are definitely, afternoon tea, listening to music and having hand massages. Mum enjoys being given lots of affection and joins us in the office just for the company. My mother is so well looked after, staff are brilliant, always an update when requested. Mum is extremely well fed with a good diet, excellent activities. Her birthday was exceptional as we had photos of her enjoying her day. We have only seen Mum four times during the year of 2020, and staff have always
been reassuring that they are all safe and have followed the guidelines of the government strictly. Such a good feel place with lots of laughter. The staff have gone beyond and more during this awful time of our lives.

I find this quite hard to comment as we had to move my mum to Safe Harbour in the middle of the pandemic, and have not been able to ever enter the building. Looking at pictures, talking to staff and friends, I am very pleased with the outcome. My mum (when we have been able to see her), seems very happy
and content and always looks happy. Staff are always available to talk to and show lots of care to my mum and us.

Kevin

Kevin Butterworth

Job Title: Registered Manager Joined: 2018

Kevin has worked in care for over 20 years and specialised in Dementia care for over 10 years. Kevin has previously managed a 19-bed residential care home in Cheshire. This care home was rated Outstanding before Kevin sought out a bigger care home to manage and found Safe Harbour was exactly what he was looking for.


Kevin is married, has children and now has a grandson also. Kevin comes from a large family, most of whom are also n the care sector in various roles.


Kevin has brought this home from strength to strength since starting with us in June 2018. We are very happy to have him on board.

Kim Dawson

Registered Nurse Bsc (Hons)


Kim Has been a qualified nurse for 20 years, having worked in the private, public and charitable/not for profit sectors of health care. Kim has laterally worked as a Registered Manager of 2 ‘outstanding’ care homes, as an Admiral Nurse (Dementia Specialist Nurse) across Cheshire and Wirral, and a Senior Quality Assurance Manager. Having provided education to pre and post-registration nurses, GP’s, and to local CCG staff, being published in clinical journals for her work in Dementia care, participating in a national research project with Dementia UK, and featuring in the End of Life Partnerships AGM (2017) her clinical skills are always kept up to date.


Kim is a mother of 2 and has 2 dogs that she loves. We're happy to have Kim as part of the management team since January 2019.

Naomi

Naomi Davidson

Naomi has been a Registered General Nurse since 2009 and she has worked in the NHS, charitable and social care sectors during this time. Naomi has 6 years experience working with both patients and families as a palliative care nurse. Naomi's special interests are skin integrity and wound care. Naomi says 'It is an honour to now be working with the residents and families at Safe Harbour'. Naomi is the Deputy manager alongside Registered manger Kevin Butterworth.

Emma joined our sister home in October 2019 and comes with a wealth of finance and administration experience within the care home sector. Emma manages a small team and is responsible for payroll, HR and finance. Emma joined Safe Harbour in October 2020 and is an important part of the team and we are happy to have her on board

Holly Dooley

Holly has worked in the different health care sectors since 2005 in a number of roles, most recently as a senior manager involved in the administration, HR, and day-to-day running of multi-site care homes, achieving an ‘outstanding’ rating. Holly has led charities to success and having financial control has ensured their integrity has been upheld. Holly has a Level 4 in Management and a Level 5 in Health and Social Care, as well as a Level 3 in Counselling since 2024.


Holly has been heavily involved with service development and has progressed home’s forward with regards to their community links and by looking at improving service users daily life and evidencing this. Holly runs all of the social media pages (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) She also over sees the activity and well being team ensuring that we have a variety of activities and manage our fundraising.

Ashleigh

Ashleigh Copley

Ashleigh has worked in Dementia health care for over 6 years as a Health care assistant, trainee Senior Carer, Lead Senior and most recently as a Care manager involved in the day to day running of the care home. Ashleigh is a medication champion and leads the Covid testing and safe steps (falls risks)


Ashleigh covers the Residential floor at Safe Harbour predominantly and supports the Nursing floor where needed. Ashleigh has trained in many things such as Lateral flow testing, pressure care training, medication and End of life care. Ashleigh has a Level 5 Management in Health and Social Care.


Ashleigh has her own horse yard with her partner and has dog called Willow. We are very happy to have Ashleigh on board since August 2018

Catherine

Catherine Andrews

Job Title: Housekeeper Joined: 2018

Cath has been working at Safe Harbour as a Housekeeper since April 2020, Before that Cath worked in the Kitchen as a kitchen assistant and cook when needed. Cath then stepped in to the Domestic team when one of the team went on maternity Leave. Cath had shown such great leadership skills that she was promoted to Housekeeper.


Prior to working at Safe Harbour, Cath was a publican for over 20 years and still holds her alcohol licence. Cath is married with 2 grown Children and 4 grandchildren who she is immensely proud of. We are very happy to have Cath on board.

Clair

Clair Myers

Job Title: Lead Senior Carer Joined: 2016

Clair has worked at Safe Harbour since 2016. Clair started as a health care assistant and then trained to be a senior carer. Clair has worked on both Mersey and Dee but has been working on Dee as the Senior since 2018 and has since been promoted to Lead Senior Carer in 2020. Clair is well trained and has had speciality training in end of life care.

Andrew

Andrew Taylor

Job Title: Maintenance Joined: 2003

Andrew has worked at Safe Harbour since December 2003 starting as a domestic then the gardener and the decorator going on to lead the Maintenance throughout the home. Andrew ensures the building is safe and secure within all guidelines. Andrew is the fire coordinator, IOSHH trained and a trained trainer in manual handling.


Andrew is the Health and safety champion for the whole building. Andrew is a committed member of the Safe Harbour team and the longest running member too.

Job Title: Activities Coordinators

We have a fabulous team of activity coordinators at Safe Harbour. They all have different strengths from planning, arts & crafts, Baking, Namaste etc but they all love dressing up and playing their part to ensure our ladies and gents get the best out of their day.
