Mum has now been a resident of Whitby House for almost two years and on the whole seems very satisfied with the care and personal attention she receives. The staff are generally friendly and cheerful and have always made me feel welcome. Activities are provided every weekday afternoon, special events
are frequently organised and a number of outings organised throughout the year. Overall, I feel confident that mum is in safe and capable hands.

Looking at what I have filled in below, you will see that I am overall very satisfied with my time here.
I have been a resident here for 21 months now and apart from the odd time or two, I have felt quite at home.
My own home of many years, though now gone is still very special to me.

Whitby House has a very welcoming atmosphere. The staff are very caring to mum and all of our family. They respond immediately to any concerns we have about mum's condition. The home is always clean and pleasant smelling. Mum is always clean and well cared for. Meals are usually good. If mum required
a doctor's visit, this is arranged.

On the whole, the staff are extremely helpful and polite although at times they are run off their feet because of staff shortages i.e two carers for 20 beds.
The staff are doing an excellent job against the odds!

This care home provides my husband with care and homeliness, he feels safe and well looked after, he enjoys the food, and at the moment needs help which is provided (with meals).
He has had good nursing care and I have been kept informed of his progress.
The entertainment person is always cheerful
and raises the spirits of the residents, she goes over and above what she needs to do.
I thank all staff for their care.

Due to serious health issues, my elderly mother had to take up residence in Whitby House. She was obviously very concerned and anxious at having to accept a new way of life.

The staff here are absolutely amazing and from the very start, they have offered unconditional support, reassurance, patience

and compassion which has helped not only my Mum but also her family considerably.

The home has a very welcoming atmosphere and there's a 'buzz' about the place which brings it to life and makes towards very comfortable surroundings.

The food is excellent and freshly cooked. There's always a good choice. All dietary needs can be met.

Rooms are of a decent size, kept clean with regular changes of bedding and towels.

The many varied week day activities are suited to all capabilities and residents are encouraged, though not pressurised, to participate.

Mum is very precious to our family and we are greatly comforted and reassured that she is in such a caring and happy environment.

Current Review Score: 8.2 (8.201)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.2 (8.201) out of 10 for Whitby House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.4 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.826 for Whitby House is calculated as follows: ( (19 Excellents x 5) + (4 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 23 Ratings = 4.826
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.375 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Whitby House is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 8 = 0.25
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
