Outstanding care home. Staff are excellent, all fully committed to the care of the residents. They are pleasant, courteous and understanding. Facilities are great, activities are excellent, food and catering are good. Mother has been a resident for 4 years without complaint! She is well looked after. Medical care is always on-hand whenever needed. The place is very well managed and organised. Could not ask for more.

I consider myself to be very lucky to have recovered from my fall and operation at Hazeldene Care Home. The staff, amenities and food were all excellent, and I would have no reservations in recommending Hazeldene to friends and family.

I cannot fault the quality of care my 93-year-old mother is being given. She appears to have settled well and feels safe and well cared 24 hours. I would have given top marks but sadly due to the attitude of the senior management, 4 stars were lost. I appreciate given the Covid precautions the only means of communicating with my mother is by WhatsApp which we both appreciate. When I attempted to discuss something urgent, deeply private and confidential and personal with my mother, I was interrupted by the manager who was hidden out of view and who obviously, for reasons which are unfathomable, was monitoring a conversation without my consent. Prior to this, I was aware that my mother was distressed. I had a perfectly normal conversation with my mother over the telephone which was not being monitored. Not only was this upsetting for us both, not only was this extremely rude and unprofessional but illegal as a breach of our legal rights to medical confidentially, but also the right to privacy.
At no point was I, as next of kin, ever informed or was I included in the discussion - we had already agreed and signed a Power of Attorney to enable me to deal with all the financial matters. Has serious consequences as I may lose my home due to having to be forced to sell it. This was compounded by the fact that this was justified by safeguarding and duty of care. This does not and never will justify unprofessionalism and the harm caused to my mother. Suspicions were raised that my mother had been got at by the manager as this was followed by her making decisions and choices which do not reflect her thinking and character, things that we had agreed several years ago. Prior to this, I sent a personal card to the manager requesting very politely that we discuss the way ahead informally. I have not had the courtesy of a response which shows just how seriously my mother's welfare is being taken. My mother has been got at as she has been decided to have capacity which was "arranged" by the care home. Something very fishy - made worse by the fact the manager persuaded my mother to appoint a solicitor chosen and instructed by the manager to be Power of Attorney.

We had already agreed a power of attorney ready for registration. The worst part is that this has placed a huge strain on my relationship with my mother at a critical time at the end of her life. Under the influences of the care home, she now believes I can not be trusted. It is a pity that all the good work the other staff are doing by the indescribable conduct of the manger.

Thank you for the kind review relating to the care we deliver. We strive for this as reflected on our CQC inspection report. Your subjective criticism of our manager was taken seriously but upon investigation, I learnt that you are in fact the godson and this is your 'aunt', therefore you are...

Our mother has recently needed to have 24/7 care. Hazeldene invited us in and made us extremely welcome. We were shown all areas including bathrooms, kitchen and the family kitchen. Our first impressions were of a friendly, caring, loving community focused on the needs of residents. Nothing has been too much trouble and the staff have worked hard to help our mother settle in. We have been able to take many personal items to make her room and en-suite feel like home. Thank you.

My parents have been welcomed warmly into Hazeldene Care Home and have settled well. I find the staff and management very friendly and approachable and always act on my parent's best interests, eg. seeking medical advice and support when necessary.

I have seen a lot of improvements to the building since my parents first arrived at Hazeldene. However, I still feel there is some way to go, eg. stained carpeting in bathrooms is far from ideal and cannot be considered hygienic.

From day one to discharge, every single member of staff at Hazeldene has been amazing. Every member of care staff, domestic staff, laundry staff as well as the handyman, has been exemplary. The care staff are loving and caring and so observant. They act on all adverse observations immediately, to ensure the client's wellbeing. We, as a family, cannot praise them too highly.

In last 12 months, care is much improved. I am confident my mum is well cared for. She has been a resident for 4 years. The care, the laundry, the food and the activities are all good. Maybe a bit more information as to how mum is would be good but I realise the staff are busy.

The only negative is the poor state of the furniture and carpets which does not affect the care directly but does reduce the overall positive feeling about the Hazeldene care home.

I was dreading the search for a care home for my husband after his accident having been told his time in the hospital was due to end within a week but he still required care. Now, almost a year later he obviously enjoys living in Hazeldene Care Home and jokes with all the carers who apart from physically caring for the residents devise numerous activities to stimulate and entertain. Residents are encouraged to help make decorations commemorating various celebrations during the year ie St. George's Day, St Valentine's Day and Easter not forgetting the Royal Wedding of Heghan and Prince Harry.the kitchen also becomes the centre for hands-on activities making scones, biscuits, fancy buns and even sponge cakes within the capabilities of the residents. The main job in the kitchen, of course, is to provide healthy meals for residents by the chef which are highly recommended by those residents able to recall what they have eaten. What a feeling of relief to find a care home for my husband that is so hospitable a genuine home from home and long may it continue to be so.

We have just chosen this home for our own mother, who is disabled. After considering a number of alternative places we found the atmosphere, the quality of staff (especially), the programme of varied and regular activities together with the cleanliness of Hazeldene to be outstanding.

The staff are incredible. It is obvious that they all really DO care about their residents. They spend time with them individually and in small groups and any request from patients is attended to at once. The management have been fully supportive and attentive to our concerns and the needs of our mother. A truly exceptional place, which as a family, we would unreservedly recommend to anyone as a genuine, caring Home.
