My Mum has been in The Spinney now for 5 years her care has been excellent most of the time, and we have seen many staff come and go. But they have all looked after Mum very well.
We have tried a few care homes but it was a weight off our shoulders when she came to The Spinney. Mum is at end-of-life
but she keeps on going, they treat her with respect and care.

When I moved into The Spinney Nursing Home I was very afraid of what was to come. How wrong I was. I have been cared for over the seven months I have been a resident. The nurse ensures my medication is delivered at the right time. The carers from the senior staff on the ward are truly caring. I would
recommend this home to anyone for care and understanding.

Our parents seem settled in The Spinney. We have no qualms with regard to day-to-day care and meals. However, sometimes there seems to be a lack of communication with regard to some aspects of health needs. For example, Dad has been having trouble with his ears over the last few months. We have made
enquiries with the staff regarding this, we believe someone has been out to see him but we only got to know through Dad. We also feel the matter of clothing needs addressing. We take clothes in for our parents to wear. But they end up wearing other residents' clothes even though they have been tagged.

My care has been on the whole very good, with rare exceptions, mainly due to breakdown in communication. The length that I have been here shows that on the whole, I am quite content here.

My Gran had to stay here to get her confidence back after being in hospital. She was treated with so much respect and was encouraged to walk with the help of the carers. Every member of staff was amazing with her. Thank you for getting her back to where she was before.

Ample car parking and a lovely quiet location opposite a church. Never had to wait long for the doorbell to be answered. Lots of staff about, all of them are lovely people who enjoy their job. Older building creating a homely feeling. Lift access to various floors. Very clean. The food is quite adequate
and appetising. Rooms are cosy and well decorated with call facilities and ensuite toilet.

All the staff are very welcoming and pleasant when spoken to. They are always smiling and cheerful when I see them and treat my mother with respect and myself like a friend. They always listen to any concerns we may have with my mother and go out of their way to be helpful. We are able to visit every
day and made to feel as part of the 'family'.

My mum has been in The Spinney for almost three years, and during that time, has thrived with the help of everyone at the home. I can't fault any of them.
The care, compassion and true friendship we have all felt, especially during this last year with this terrible virus (Covid), can only be described
as going above and beyond. When the family can't visit, they have kept all the residents entertained, motivated and safe, so I can't thank them enough.
Well done everyone.

The nursing home has had a change of management whilst my mother has been in the home and I am pleased with the care my mother has received. She has now been in the home over 5 years.
My mother has thrived in the home, maintaining a healthy weight and her mental condition is under control. Her carers
know my mother well and understand her needs.
Recently my father had EoLC in the home. He was fiercely independent and did not want to end his days in a home. However, the home treated him with dignity and respect. They were extremely accommodating to me and even gave me a room to stay in so that I could be with him for his last few days. They gave me food and offered me support. The manager was excellent and I can't thank the staff enough.

My mother and father were both residents here at The Spinney Nursing Home since September 2016 where they have both been well looked after until my mum sadly passed away Oct 2017. She was shown a lot of respect, love, and help by all the staff right up until the end. My father is still in here and at
times his behaviour due to his dementia is challenging, however, the staff are brilliant with him and look after his every need.

Myself and my wife think it is great here.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.819)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.819) out of 10 for The Spinney Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 20 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.819 for The Spinney Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (199 Excellents x 5) + (35 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 238 Ratings = 4.819
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Spinney Nursing Home is based on 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 35 registered maximum number of service users is 7, which has been reached with 20 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
