I have nothing but positive things to say about High Peak Lodge, despite the fact that my mother sadly only had the benefit of this home for two weeks before she passed away. After having contact with a number of different care homes locally, High Peak stands out as a friendly, warm, empathic home. Although many homes say that they focus on the individual, this is borne out in the whole culture of High Peak. I remember the manager asking me about my mother prior to her moving to High Peak, and when I started to talk about her physical needs she was clear that her priority was to learn about my mother's character; this was a refreshing contrast to the questions I had been asked by other care homes and even social care staff. The manager is clearly very committed to making the lives of her staff, residents and their relatives as positive as possible; the staff all spoke very highly of her, as did she of her staff. I cannot recommend High Peak highly enough.

My mum was set to High Peak Lodge for the last few weeks of her life, all the staff were very supportive and kind and mum was looked after really well. It was a tough time but we were all supported really well there.

Dad lived at High Peak Lodge for 6 months and was always treated as an individual with dignity and respect. Dad's spiritual needs in addition to physical and emotional care were included by all staff, which meant a great deal to his family and friends, especially when unable to see him in person due to covid restrictions. All staff should be proud of the care they give and the 'extra mile' they go. Thank you.

2020 has been a challenging time for everyone, but having to place your mother in care following a stroke alongside Covid restrictions was heartbreaking. Thankfully the management and team at High Peak were welcoming and wonderful with mum nothing was too much trouble. They felt like an extension of our family. Knowing mum was safe and being looked after meant the world to us, care staff does not get the credit they deserve. Covid meant no face-to-face visits but the home set up video calls for family and window visits which were really appreciated and valuable to maintain contact especially during mum's last months. At all times we were kept updated if the nurse was required for anything big or small, unlike many hospitals. The activity coordinators set up a WhatsApp group so family and friends could share photos and videos with mum and the home could share photos with us of mum joining in activities, priceless during covid times. I cannot thank or recommend High Peak enough

My Mother was admitted to High Peak in May 2020 after surgery and due to advanced dementia and is still a resident under the covid arrangements.
I cannot speak highly enough of the care our Mother has received from the whole team from the nursing team and domestic staff to the leadership team.
Despite the challenges of the pandemic period, this team have managed to find a balance of superb open and honest communication whilst maintaining a 'home from home' feel with lots of friendly interaction and humour which our Mother loves!
A special mention has to go to the activity co-ordinators who provide sensory interaction and enable the whole family to stay in touch with Mum via a private, family WhatsApp group - this lifeline has, without doubt, made a huge difference to the otherwise adverse impact that the pandemic restrictions could have had on her health and wellbeing.

A huge thank you from all the family to everyone at High Peak for everything you are doing!

I was really happy that my grannie was at High Peak. She was so well looked after, all the carers and other staff were lovely. I used to visit with my dog, we always got a warm welcome and she used to love coming to the home. The atmosphere is very homely and it was a perfect place for my grannie to live her final years. I've visited during numerous activities for the residents, there was so much going on that I didn't get to see, but I saw plenty of posters and photos of the activities. They really try to make the days happy and full for the residents. High Peak is an amazing nursing home, and I will always be grateful that they looked after and cared for my grannie as if she was their own family member.

I was very happy that mum got a place at High Peak and the support and care given to mum was outstanding. As mum's deputy I had to deal with finances and other paperwork and knowing that she was being well looked after gave me peace of mind. The honest and open communication between the home and family was very much appreciated. It was only fitting that on the day of the funeral mun should leave from High Peak as this had been her home for four years. The staff turned out to say goodbye and the guard of honour was very moving. This will stay with me for a long time.

Mum lived at High Peak for over 4 years until she passed away peacefully in August 2020. She was always treated with dignity and respect and the staff were attentive and friendly. Family who visited were greeted by staff who always were keen to say ‘hello’ and indeed over the years it was a comfort to see familiar faces knowing they were providing an excellent level of care to Mum whether nurses, carers, cooks or domestics as they all played their part. It truly felt like a team effort. I would not hesitate to recommend High Peak to potential residents.

Our Mum lived at High Peak Lodge from April until September 2019. We had no prior knowledge of High Peak Lodge until our first visit when Mum needed nursing care and we could not have wished for her to be treated with such warmth and love. The team of staff work so well together with each other and also co-operated with our family so closely, keeping us informed and making us part of her life still.

We would not hesitate to recommend High Peak Lodge as a place of care for your loved one.

My mother was a resident for the last couple of months right until she passed away.

Every time we visited her we were greeted by friendly carers. My mother loved everyone there, they treated her as if she was their own family. She had nothing but praise for the care that she received. The care, as a former carer, this is one of the best, I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone.

I had to find somewhere for my mother who required continuing nursing care. I called one evening, the care team were unaware I was calling, however, two colleagues were pleased to show me around. I liked what I saw. I contacted the manager the following day, she was so understanding and immediately set out to visit my mother to carry out an assessment. I was kept informed at all times. I was so pleased to receive a phone call to say we have a room for your mum and if it's OK I will arrange for her to be transferred here the following day. I was also impressed with the kitchen staff, a colleague was due to go home when my mother first arrived late evening, however, he stayed and brought her some refreshments, first impressions count. All the nursing staff and care staff looked after my mother with respect and dignity, taking time to make sure she was as comfortable as possible at all times. The manager has a great team, I know my mother received the best care anyone could have provided.

My mother was treated with kindness and respect during the 18 months she was there. The staff were always very patient and took time to encourage her to speak and to join in with the activities that were ongoing. My mother was a very quiet person and they always tried to encourage her to join in. The variety of food offered is excellent and cater to every resident's needs. I would like to thank all the nursing staff; activity co-ordinators, care staff, cleaners and kitchen staff for all their hard work.

Carol Mills
Carol MillsJob Title:Care Home Manager

I became the manager of High Peak Lodge in 2017 and this is my first job for a private care home following a long and varied career in several sectors. I qualified as a nurse in 1984 and worked at the former Hope Hospital in Salford as part of its community learning disabilities team for 17 years.

I was then a programme manager for environmental regeneration charity Groundwork for eight years and five years I was a manager, rising to head of operations, at the Carers Trust For All.

I am able to put my combined knowledge and experience to good use at High Peak Lodge. My overriding interest is in the quality of care for vulnerable people.

The thing I like best about my job is the people – our residents and staff. There is great camaraderie in our team and a real willingness to go the extra mile, every day.
