Its been 2 years since Mum came in and took sometime to settle which was a concern weekly. However, I feel since the takeout there has been a significant change. Not just cosmetic, but my mum's overall mental health has improved which is down to staff's attitude and understanding towards her mental
health.
My only concerns are night staff's arranging of clothes (mix up) unattended Mum (not a real issue but I'd like someone to attend to her when I visit not left alone. I understand who's a priority).
Reply from Joanne McHugh, Manager at New Springfield Care Home

Thank you for taking the time to share your honest feedback. We're so pleased to hear that your mum has settled in well and that you've noticed such a positive improvement in her mental health, especially thanks to the care and understanding shown by our team. It means a lot to us that she feels supported and comfortable. We also appreciate you raising your concerns regarding clothing arrangements and your mum being left unattended during visits. We have looked into this and have now purchased a button system for naming clothes, which has already been very successful. This should help us keep belongings properly organised. We will also continue to review our processes with staff to make sure residents feel supported at all times, including during visits. Thank you again for your trust and for allowing us to care for your mum.

Excellent communication with all the staff. The staff are very pleasant and answer any questions you ask of them. My brother has made very good progress since he was admitted to Springfield from the hospital. His health and well-being have come on in leaps and bounds, and the food is of good standards
and portions. My brother was underweight but is now in the normal range.
Reply from Joanne McHugh, Manager at New Springfield Care Home

Thank you so much for your kind feedback. We are delighted to hear that your brother has settled in well at Springfield and that you have noticed such positive improvements in his health and wellbeing. Our team takes great pride in providing compassionate care, good nutrition, and clear communication with families, so its wonderful to know this has been your experience. I Can't thank the team at New Springfield Care Home enough, their excellent care of my father gave my mum peace of mind to be able to relax and enjoy her much needed break. The little extras like his glass of wine or 3 in the evening lol definitely helped, dad does love his wine. I know mum has no hesitation
using the home for future respite for dad. We have 2 further respite breaks booked with yourselves. Once again thank you so much you all
do an excellent job.
Reply from Joanne McHugh, Manager at New Springfield Care Home

Thank you so much for your kind words. Were delighted to hear that your mum was able to enjoy her well-deserved break knowing your dad was being well cared for. Its always our pleasure to add those little personal touches a glass (or three!) of wine in the evening sounds just perfect for him. Were so pleased to know you feel confident in choosing us again for future respite stays, and we look forward to welcoming your dad back soon. Your appreciation means a lot to the whole team here at New Springfield Care Home.

My Mother has been a resident of the care homes Dementia Unit since 2019. The care home is looking brighter and refreshed since becoming New Springfield ( formerly Springfield ) but most importantly as her Alzheimer's has progressed the quality of her care has remained high. Recently after consulting
me the care home moved her to a room closer to the office, the staff felt that as her condition was deteriorating and she had lost mobility it would be easier to keep a close eye on her if she was nearer the office, this was a great comfort to myself and I felt happier knowing care was closer to hand should she need it as her Alzheimer's progresses.

I was dreading having to put my mum into a care home but as a family we all decided it was the right the time. My mum has dementia and is non verbal so this was worrying knowing she couldn't communicate with anyone. She went in November 24 and I can honestly say she is doing amazing. I go to see her
every week and every time she's always clean, dressed, happy and content. She's made her own little family in there. They take mum out on day trips and show me photographs what she's been up too which is really lovely to see as she didn't like leaving the house for years.
The staff are lovely always engaging with her. The care home itself it's very clean which I love. They have recently painted and decorated since mum has been there and it looks so fresh and more up to date now. They have done a great job. Her room is always spotless and hoovered. I would 100% recommend this care home.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience. We know how difficult the decision can be to move a loved one into care, especially when communication is a challenge, so it truly means a lot to hear that your mum is happy, comfortable, and thriving here. Its wonderful to know she has made her own family and is enjoying the activities and outings. Were delighted that youve noticed the care we put into keeping both the home and residents rooms clean, fresh, and welcoming. Your kind words about our staff and the environment mean the world to our team they work hard every day to make sure residents feel valued and cared for.Thank you again for your heartfelt recommendation.

Night staff need to be reviewed. Not really caring enough for residents. My dad was in hospital for four days after falling out of bed. The floor mat is not in place! All my comments refer to day staff which are excellent. A change of menu would be good at lunchtime.

I grade you as an excellent nursing home. I could be wrong, but there does not seem to be a brochure/fact sheet specific to what Springfield has to offer in order to advertise your excellence. I believe this is a legally enforceable requirement according to the "accessible information standard" on 1st
August 2016. This fact sheet/brochure is a necessary requirement making a client/family to be able to make an informed decision. This information is a guide map to future care at the outset and should proceed with a "care needs assessment"!
Reply from Katie Barnett, Marketing Executive at New Springfield Care Home

Thank you, Mervyn, for your feedback and kind comments about our home. We would like to assure you that all of these materials are available to all enquirers and families. Our home leaflet is available to download on our website as well as FAQs that explain all of the little details you would want to know before you move in. Both of these materials are also available as printed versions at our home. A welcome brochure is given to all of our new residents and their families, which includes all essentials information. All of this along with the T&Cs are readily available to all families before and after move-in. The care needs assessment is also done prior to the individual moving in to ensure that our home is able to provide appropriate and safe care for each resident. This is reviewed regularly with each resident and when someone’s care needs change. I hope this has reassured you; should you need any of this information, please reach out to us at the home. Thanks again.

Total chaos resulting in many serious issues. The resident was removed due to safety and care issues and is now safe and being looked after properly.
Belongings went missing and care was variable depending on the staff that were on duty.
The home has deteriorated over the year and is trying to save
money but this should not impact on residents. The definition of care and home are not being met.

Disgusting care home. Most carers seem to operate under the ‘minimum wage, minimum effort’.
I’ve heard staff shouting at the dementia residents before, belongings go missing. It stinks, cleanliness is definitely not a priority. Dirty dressings are not changed for over a week, causing infection. One
of the staff nurses shouts at relatives, other members of staff and residents because he’s a couple of years away from retirement and really couldn’t care less. Food is terrible, hardly any activities for the residents and to top it all off the heating has been broken for a few weeks now. Do not put your loved ones here!

The overall care from the home is first-class - the carers do a first-class job. The help and support from the medical staff have been brilliant and so much appreciated. The main areas that could be improved on are - general communication - often we don't know what is happening or changes going on.
A re=frsh of some of the facilities and room would be good.

Overall Experience 3.0 out of 5
My sister was admitted to Springfield for rehab to help get her walking again after a bad fall, but unfortunately, her mental health deteriorated while in hospital, and this was no fault of the home, it just happened to my sister due to anxiety and stress of being away from her home, in my opinion.
I find most staff helpful and pleasant to talk to, but feel very miss guided when asking for updates about my sister, which due to Covid rules and visits limited, is very important to me.
It appears to me that things are often very unorganised, such as visiting, you can be left waiting at the door for up to 15 minutes then when you get in you can be waiting to see your relative, so often half of your visit time is lost. I can’t comment for the rest of the home, but I find the unit my sister is on very dark, depressing and never smells clean. The room often looks untidy, cluttered and dirty with food left on the floor from meal time that I have cleaned up while visiting.
Reply from Olivia Shields, Marketing Assistant at New Springfield Care Home

Thank you, Anita, for your comments about Springfield Care Home. We appreciate you taking the time to give feedback and letting us know how we are doing.
Communication is managed with each individual resident and their family, so we will look at ways to improve this. We recognise the importance of visiting, and we can only apologise that this has not always gone so smoothly. At times, there is a delay when entering the building due to other visitors having their Lateral Flow Tests. To accommodate any delays, we do aim to extend the visiting appointments so that no time is lost. At present, the home is undergoing a significant redecoration, but we have passed on all your comments to our team and will investigate any issues with your sister’s room. In the meantime, if you would like to discuss anything in more detail, please reach out to the Home Manager to arrange a meeting. Thank you again.

I would like to commend all the staff on level 2, the dementia floor, for doing a sterling job looking after my husband, especially the male chap who goes above and beyond his call of duty. The staff's patience and caring nature are second to none through this very difficult time, as I haven't been
able to go into the care home properly since my husband moved in, in July 2020 due to Covid19 restrictions. The only critique I would like to make is that I would like the owners to act more swiftly in arranging suitable indoor access (adhering to cover restrictions) for seeing my husband.

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.189)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.189) out of 10 for New Springfield Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.774 for New Springfield Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (73 Excellents x 5) + (19 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 93 Ratings = 4.774
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.415 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for New Springfield Care Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 65 registered maximum number of service users is 13. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 13 = 0.615
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
