My wife has been at Dearnevale for 8 years and I can't thank each and every one for their support they give us as a family. Dearnevale is amazing, each day is different for my wife and can be challenging at times but staff give 100% to her needs, which as a family we are forever grateful.

Dearnvale is just a fantastic place for my daughter, the staff are amazing and nothing is too much. My daughter is so happy at Dearnevale and with all the attention and care she receives I am not surprised. The care she receives is not just her personal care but she gets pampered and is always doing something with the fantastic staff. I cannot thank and praise Dearnevale enough and will always be so grateful.
I visited regularly and always find the staff very friendly and attentive to the service users. The service user who I visit is so happy living here.
My mum has been here nearly 5 years now. The staff are truly amazing, it is always very welcoming. I visit with various family members and the comfort we all get from knowing how well the care given here is, it's just fantastic. I believe if my mum was anywhere else she would never have had the opportunities she has. We are all very thankful for you all.

Excellent and caring staff, dealing with some challenging residents. There are always plenty of activities and events happening and regular shopping trips. Staff keep us well informed as to what is happening regarding care.

My cousin is thriving living at Dearnevale. He loves it, he is very settled and the care he receives is outstanding. The staff are amazing and treat my cousin with care and dignity. Unfortunately, we cannot get to visit as much as we would like but when we do visit we are made to feel very welcome by all management and staff. So pleased we have found Dearnevale.

My son has been at Dearnevale for 13/14 years, I would really recommend anyone with complex needs to come and view Dearnevale as it is outstanding. I have worked for exemplar in my working life and Dearnevale is the best by far, this home is so friendly and very supportive to us and I wouldn't want my son anywhere else. Just like to say thank you to everyone at Dearnevale.
Excellent care given to my relative, he has progressed physically and mentally and his quality of life has improved significantly. Due to Covid, family have had only minimal contact and his development is down to the excellent care given to meet his diverse, individual needs.

Although this has been a very hard emotional year for me not being able to see my husband during the first lockdown, I do know that he has been in very good hands and really well cared for. Hopefully, now there is a light at the end of the tunnel and things will get back to normal as soon as possible as I am just allowed garden visits at the moment due to the variant.
Couldn't wish for a better place for my stepdaughter to live. All the staff spoil her and wants for nothing.

As always I don't have any negative things to say about Dearnevale. My dad has been a resident for nine years and in all that time we have been made very welcome whenever we come to visit, and the care my dad receives is excellent, and he is always happy when we visit.

My cousin has lived in the home for over ten years. The care he receives is of a very high standard. The staff are like an extension to our family. I cannot praise the staff enough for keeping everyone safe during Covid-19 and also keeping family members updated with frequent cards, letters and photos. Thank you for everything you do.

My son has been at Dearnevale now for over thirteen years. At first, I was very reluctant leaving him there as we are from Nottinghamshire which is quite a distance away. We have had our ups and downs but the staff and management are very supportive. It's a very friendly, homely atmosphere, my son has no way of communicating but staff know him so well and know what his needs are.

Hi, I’m Helen and I’m the Registered Manager at Dearnevale in Grimethorpe, Barnsley.
I qualified as a Nurse in 1986 after completing my training at the Sheffield School of Nursing. My ambition from the age of three was always to be a Nurse, and I’m so proud that I achieved it!
After qualifying, I worked at Lodge Moor Hospital in the infectious disease unit, and then in general medicine before joining the British Army and serving in the Queen Alexandra Royal Army Nursing Corps.
Following my time in the Army, I worked for the Ministry of Defence in Germany.
When I returned to England, I started working in elderly care and general rehabilitation, including in a specialist stroke rehabilitation unit.
I joined Dearnevale, part of Exemplar Health Care, in February 2008 working as a Nurse.
In the summer of 2008, I became Unit Manager in Darbyshire Unit at the home, and in 2010, I became Clinical Nurse Manager.
Five years later I moved into the Home Manager role. I’ve loved that my whole career with Exemplar Health Care has been spent at Dearnevale – it’s my second home and family!
