Byron Lodge Nursing Home is a modern purpose-built home offering a high standard of nursing and residential care in a luxury setting to elderly people in South Yorkshire. Residents can enjoy the comfort of large bedrooms with en-suite facilities, spacious lounges and dining areas.

The home accommodates up to 61 adults who need assistance with personal or nursing care, including those living with dementia. There is a team of highly trained and skilled staff who deliver high-quality care to all residents at Byron Lodge. Each resident’s individual needs are regularly assessed to ensure their care plans accommodate their lifestyle requirements and choices.

At Byron Lodge, the team want residents to live happy and fulfilled lives. By getting to know residents, the dedicated activity coordinators offer an extensive programme of activities and events, providing sensory stimulation through group activities and one to one sessions that meet their different passions and interests.

Mealtimes represent an important part of the day and a great social occasion. At Byron Lodge, they work to ensure this time is enjoyable as possible, unhurried and relaxed, with everyone being given plenty of time to eat and enjoy their meal while chatting and enjoying the company of friends.

The chef team use fresh ingredients, locally sourced wherever possible, to provide delicious, nutritionally balanced, seasonal meals.

I have been incredibly impressed by every single member of staff I have encountered since my sister was admitted into Byron Lodge from hospital a few weeks ago. Every person I have spoken to on the phone has been helpful and polite. Everyone I have encountered whilst visiting has been compassionate
and caring. The attention to detail in testing my temperature, and performing lateral flow tests to check for Covid infection, has been excellent. All these tests have been carried out in a respectful and professional manner. The staff clearly care about the safety of visitors as well as their residents. The home is always clean. The rooms are a good size. It is upsetting to know your sister is having to be looked after by other people, but I have met and chatted with many of the staff and I am quite content that she is being very well cared for. She seems as happy as possible. The staff seem very happy as a team. There is quite a homely, family-orientated atmosphere around the place.

We haven't been able to visit or see my mum because of Covid-19 for 10 months. I had a phone call this week to say Mum was being moved from an upstairs room to a downstairs room. We could go and see her through the window. My sister and I visited today and it was wonderful to see Mum. We would like
to say thank you to all your staff from admin, cleaner, carers, and nursing staff. You have done an amazing job Mum looked wonderful. You have kept her safe and well in very difficult times. Thank you for all you hard work, I would recommend Byron Lodge to anyone.

My father and mother came to Byron Lodge mainly due to my father being terminal with prostate cancer, my mum was here initially to be with him for respite. Unfortunately, my father passed away after eight days. The care and support provided was first class and it continues to be for my mum who is trying
to rebuild and become healthier herself.

The care home has provided a safe, secure, warm and friendly place for my mother-in-law who needs 24-hour care. The staff are always available to chat and help with support and advise. Mum seems content and settled with a comfortable room and ensuite facilities, personalisation of the room is encouraged.
Visiting is always OK... Except at meal times.

My father has been in care at Byron Lodge for 5 years. During this time he has received excellent care and I have been well supported by all the staff we have met along the journey. Sadly he passed away last Friday yet it was such a calm, peaceful end thanks to the loving care of the wonderful staff.
Special thanks to the manager and seniors who have been there for him throughout.

Carers are excellent (nursing upstairs).
Management has improved. Entrance area welcoming - gramophone music more suitable and would be better suited to lounge areas/memory stimulation. Promised bedroom decoration 2+ years and still waiting! Impressed with contact re missed medication. Items still
going missing and no one ever has an answer; flowers, personal gifts, clothing etc.

The reason behind the gramophone is to stimulate experiences for residents to come down to the reception area and use the space for coffee and entertainment. The individual units i.e. lounge area have CD players and we have designated music areas within the home. Management is extremely useless and does not listen. Most of the care staff are not very good at their job and don't do things with interest towards the residents. The food is disgusting and the meals do not go together and the same foods are served regularly with no change.
The cleanness of rooms/hallways
is appalling.

My wife has been in the care of Byron Lodge since 2016. All the staff have always treated me with the utmost respect, any problems I have had are dealt with straight away and all the improvements been made in the last few months have made Byron Lodge a very good home for all the residents living there.
The care provided is of a very high standard and I would not want my wife anywhere else.

Extremely friendly and welcoming staff. Always welcome and say hello. They are forever on their feet grafting away, checking and talking to the residents. They always make sure mom is comfortable, fed and watered. She has very much kept her dignity while she has been at the home.
Entertainment in the
home is great and it is always nice to see the residents enjoying the singer who comes in.
Food is good but needs some fruit in the trifle.

My mother has been a resident for nearly 6 years now and I would be more than happy to recommend this home.


My mother is very settled which is down mainly to the carers who I feel look after Mum.


The management staff are very approachable and will listen to concerns and any potential faults at

We got a new owner recently when the home was poor in all categories, especially management.
Since then, and after the latest CQC visit and report, which was very poor and justified. With the introduction of new management, the home is being transformed. Management have much improved.
Staff was at
a very low morale, now much improved and getting better each day.
I think the home is on the right track after a few difficult years.
