My mother-in-law was in Byron Lodge for nine weeks before she passed away. The care given to her was exceptional. The staff were also wonderful to us as a family. We cannot thank the staff enough. We certainly picked the best care home for her.

This was my third in-person visit since restrictions were lifted and it is a very caring and straightforward experience doing lateral flow tests and being kitted out with PPE by the staff. This is one of the best care homes I have been to, there is a great sense of peace and caring. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

My father was placed at Byron Lodge to be assessed. Unfortunately, he only was here a few weeks, and we lost him. I wish to thank all for the care, love, and support we as a family received, and for making Dads days comfortable at the end.

Overall care of my stepfather has been excellent; he's very happy with his care staff and feels well looked after. He enjoys his meals and loves being downstairs. I would like to be informed if there are any changes to his care, then I could talk to him before any changes are made.

Review from Helen B (Sister of Resident) published on 25 March 2021 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

I have been incredibly impressed by every single member of staff I have encountered since my sister was admitted into Byron Lodge from hospital a few weeks ago. Every person I have spoken to on the phone has been helpful and polite. Everyone I have encountered whilst visiting has been compassionate and caring. The attention to detail in testing my temperature, and performing lateral flow tests to check for Covid infection, has been excellent. All these tests have been carried out in a respectful and professional manner. The staff clearly care about the safety of visitors as well as their residents. The home is always clean. The rooms are a good size. It is upsetting to know your sister is having to be looked after by other people, but I have met and chatted with many of the staff and I am quite content that she is being very well cared for. She seems as happy as possible. The staff seem very happy as a team. There is quite a homely, family-orientated atmosphere around the place.

We haven't been able to visit or see my mum because of Covid-19 for 10 months. I had a phone call this week to say Mum was being moved from an upstairs room to a downstairs room. We could go and see her through the window. My sister and I visited today and it was wonderful to see Mum. We would like to say thank you to all your staff from admin, cleaner, carers, and nursing staff. You have done an amazing job Mum looked wonderful. You have kept her safe and well in very difficult times. Thank you for all you hard work, I would recommend Byron Lodge to anyone.

My father and mother came to Byron Lodge mainly due to my father being terminal with prostate cancer, my mum was here initially to be with him for respite. Unfortunately, my father passed away after eight days. The care and support provided was first class and it continues to be for my mum who is trying to rebuild and become healthier herself.

The care home has provided a safe, secure, warm and friendly place for my mother-in-law who needs 24-hour care. The staff are always available to chat and help with support and advise. Mum seems content and settled with a comfortable room and ensuite facilities, personalisation of the room is encouraged. Visiting is always OK... Except at meal times.

My father has been in care at Byron Lodge for 5 years. During this time he has received excellent care and I have been well supported by all the staff we have met along the journey. Sadly he passed away last Friday yet it was such a calm, peaceful end thanks to the loving care of the wonderful staff. Special thanks to the manager and seniors who have been there for him throughout.

Carers are excellent (nursing upstairs).

Management has improved. Entrance area welcoming - gramophone music more suitable and would be better suited to lounge areas/memory stimulation. Promised bedroom decoration 2+ years and still waiting! Impressed with contact re missed medication. Items still going missing and no one ever has an answer; flowers, personal gifts, clothing etc.

Reply from Emma Nottingham, Marketing at Byron Lodge Care Home

The reason behind the gramophone is to stimulate experiences for residents to come down to the reception area and use the space for coffee and entertainment. The individual units i.e. lounge area have CD players and we have designated music areas within the home. Any other issues raised in your...

Management is extremely useless and does not listen. Most of the care staff are not very good at their job and don't do things with interest towards the residents. The food is disgusting and the meals do not go together and the same foods are served regularly with no change.

The cleanness of rooms/hallways is appalling.

Reply from Emma Nottingham, Marketing at Byron Lodge Care Home

We are disappointed you found the service fell short of expectations, it is essential to us that we provide the best care for our residents, and the new manager will look into the issues raised and will feedback to you individually.

My wife has been in the care of Byron Lodge since 2016. All the staff have always treated me with the utmost respect, any problems I have had are dealt with straight away and all the improvements been made in the last few months have made Byron Lodge a very good home for all the residents living there. The care provided is of a very high standard and I would not want my wife anywhere else.

Staff are friendly and approachable and my parent seems happy and settled. Over the recent months, I have noticed a lot of input in training of staff, resident care and ongoing improvement to premises. I can see these things having a positive experience for my parent.

Majority of the staff treat residents with dignity in a caring considerate way.

Extremely friendly and welcoming staff. Always welcome and say hello. They are forever on their feet grafting away, checking and talking to the residents. They always make sure mom is comfortable, fed and watered. She has very much kept her dignity while she has been at the home.
Entertainment in the home is great and it is always nice to see the residents enjoying the singer who comes in.
