My sister and I are very happy with the care that our mum receives in Haythorne Place. The staff are kind and caring and if we ever have any concerns, these are acknowledged and dealt with. Although mum has dementia, she does appear to be settled and happy.

I cannot say what a fantastic care home this is.
Care for the residents is second to none, the home is spotless and the staff are great. You walk in this care home and there is no smell of urine that you find in nearly all care homes. The sister in charge does a great job. I go in at different times
of the day and it's always the same. I think the staff do a great job. Can we give them all a medal, please.

Unfortunately, my father had a fall and broke his hip so we had to place him in care after 2 months in hospital. He also has dementia and heart problems.

The staff at the home do all they can to make him feel it is his home. The nursing care and help he receives is second to none. As a family,

it was a hard decision to make but we could not provide the help and care he needed. The home is not 'posh' but it is clean, comfortable and homely, which is exactly what Dad needs. He is almost 100% confined to bed so unable to take part in the activities I know the home provides.

Looking for a care home 4-5 yrs ago for a then 78 yr old we chose a beautifully modern residential home which seemed ideal, 3 floors almost hotel-like comfort with the premise that as their needs increased they would be supported on the relevant floor. In reality, 2 years later as their needs became
significant & they were no longer able to walk unaided as well as having dementia taking a strong hold, we were advised by the ideal home that our ailing 80-year-old must move from his home whether we liked it or not, essentially they were too much trouble, they needed too much care ... no longer welcome.

We then found Haythorne Place. No, it's not as glamorous & modern, it's fading a bit around the edges & looks a bit tired in places. But the care our then 81-year-old received was great, we couldn't have asked for more. If and when your relative needs kind and compassionate care to meet their every need, this is the kind of place you need. R.I.P our 83yr old, they died cared for there.

The care at this home has deteriorated significantly during the time that my relative has been staying. There is no attention paid to even the most basic needs of the residents unless it is brought to the staff's attention by visiting family members. This is very much a 'Don't Care Home' where even
the management have failed to adequately deal with any points raised.

Current Review Score: 7.8 (7.773)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.8 (7.773) out of 10 for Haythorne Place is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.2 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.565 for Haythorne Place is calculated as follows: ( (13 Excellents x 5) + (10 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 23 Ratings = 4.565
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.208 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Haythorne Place is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 120 registered maximum number of service users is 24. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 24 = 0.083
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
