The Laurels and The Limes Care Home

Dad has been here nearly one year now! Most of the time he is happy (so am I) but is partially sighted and deaf. This creates problems with all sorts of things. If we ourselves try and live a day with what Dad faces we would realise the difficulties that can arise for him and the staff. He doesn't like to cause too much fuss but he does like things right. He has had things right most of his life so to live in a strange environment now at this time of life is very hard to adjust to.

The monthly zoom meetings for loved ones were a great idea during Covid times to relay information and for us to raise questions/listen to other questions.

In line with your caveat, this is not a complaint. In my view, Hill Care/The Limes is in serious need of some good senior management. The carers and on-site staff are very friendly and look after mum with warmth and generosity of spirit. But they are running on empty all the time. Understaffing is evident and relying on carers 'going the extra mile' is fine until they've had enough and leave. Leadership is not proactive and there seems to be no back up plan for problems (lift not working for weeks, meant residents had to be helped up and down stairs - more work for carers, not managers) or staff absences. Carers are promoted to admin/junior management roles without adequate skills or support so they go from being good at the job they know, to having responsibility for staff and systems they have not trained for. Every time I visit my mum I leave thinking, they need some proper management in this place. Ticking legally required boxes is not management, it's compliance. For what we pay, I expect better.

All staff gave our mother excellent care for the last 18-months until she died in July. They were more kind and caring. The communication between the family and the home was very good.

All aspects of this care home, in my opinion, are of the highest standard, and I have been constantly impressed by all the personnel employed here. I do not think I could have found anywhere better!

Thank you to all the staff, you are doing a brilliant job during this difficult time. I really appreciate the pictures and videos when we can't visit during restrictions. Dad looks happy, and we know he's safe with you. He is certainly well looked after at The Laurels. I look forward to seeing you all again when things get back to normal. Thank you.

I continue to be very pleased with the care and support given to my husband by the home. All the staff are friendly and the atmosphere in the home is welcoming.

Been excellent during this last 8-months - safety first in relation to residents, and have adapted well to communications, video meetings, chats and weekly comms.

I cannot praise the staff at the Laurels and The Limes highly enough. My mum was transferred from hospital to there recently to receive palliative care. The nursing care and kindness received by mum, dad and I were excellent, especially from one of the senior nurse. We chose the Limes as it had a Good CQC report and on speaking to the manager prior to transfer, we were assured we would be able to visit mum (this was very important to us) and we were always made very welcome. Covid measures were in place and were increased due to national changes during mum's short time there. Every single member of staff we encountered greeted us warmly, attended well to mum's needs, checked we were ok and offered support when needed. They responded quickly and efficiently to an urgent medical situation.

The home provides excellent care and my mother has settled in well and seems comfortable and content. The staff are extremely caring and have managed marvellously during the current pandemic under very difficult circumstances.

A really well run care home.

I have received excellent care. I have been treated with respect. I have been listened to. Care and medical staff diligent. The food is truly exceptional. The home is a happy home.

I cannot recommend The Laurels and The Limes Care Home enough. All of the staff are professional and cannot do enough to help and always take time to explain procedures and answer questions. The Manager is superb and his manner could not be any better. I know that my father could not receive any better care anywhere else and knowing this is helping to alleviate any stress or worry. The team is a great example of such a physically and emotionally demanding profession.

When it became time for end-of-life care, the manager and staff did everything they could to keep Mum comfortable. They also listened to our wishes, providing care and support to us all as a family. For this, we will be forever grateful.

My mother was in The Limes for only a short time before she died, peacefully. During this time she was treated with respect and dignity. She was safe, comfortable and cared for.

The manager, was very unprofessional. My brother was very unwell with advanced cancer. She promised the world, nice room etc. When he started to get really unwell she said he had to move elsewhere as they couldn’t cope! This was awful for all of us. My brother passed away a weeks afterwards in another care home! Thanks!

Facilities are well maintained. A new manager has just taken over and arranged for the repainting of many of the public rooms. The staff are all extremely friendly and caring.

My uncle was only in the home for one and a half weeks, he was end of life care he was 101, however, he settled immediately and was surrounded by loving care.
