Overall Experience
My mother passed away recently in this home, after only a few months residing there.
The carers are amazing and tended to my mother with compassion and dedication.
Sadly the nurses gave very sub optimal palliative care. We, as a family experienced their lack of understanding of the use of pre-emptive medication. There were occasions these were refused or delayed. Once a syringe driver was set up, nurses repeatedly advised us pre-emptives weren't necessary!
All this contributed to my mother having a prolonged and traumatic end of life.
All I asked was that the care home have more palliative care training, this has been refused, they have not recognised their failings in my mothers care.

Rest in peace now mum.

We are very saddened to see this review. I would like to reassure you that your mother passed peacefully with a family member present. The nursing team worked very closely with St Luke's and the GP surgery to ensure your mother received the appropriate treatment and care.

I can't thank the staff here enough for the way they care for my uncle they all go above and beyond for him and nothing is to much trouble. It really is brilliant that we can leave and know he is being cared for by such wonderful people. Makes a sad situation a little bit easier to cope with.

Overall Experience

My sister moved to Richmond Heights after a traumatic incident and is very emotionally fragile apart from her disabilities. The staff at Richmond Heights have, in the main, been very sympathetic to her condition and treat her with respect and care. Most importantly where issues have occurred, which they will no matter where you are, they have been dealt with promptly. I would have no hesitation in recommending Richmond Heights. The rooms are comfortable, and clean and can be easily made homey with a few personal items. The staff are cheery and friendly to residents and visitors. My grateful thanks to them all.

My husband has been in just over a week for respite for 6 weeks. I am amazed by the quality of care and cleanliness. The staff are amazing. Nothing too much trouble. It's like home from home. Couldn't have picked a better place. It really is outstanding. Nice to know he's been well looked after. Would recommend wholeheartedly. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Review from Liam D (Grandson of Resident) published on 30 June 2023 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

Having had a walk around with a member of staff and then meeting the manager, we as a family decided this was the right place for my grandad to spend his final days/weeks after being told his end of life was imminent. We really couldn’t have made a better choice. My grandad only ended up spending three days in their care before he passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, but every single member of staff (nurses, domestics, cleaners and carers) made us feel welcome and really cared about the residents in the home. My great aunt, who visited my grandad, said she regretted not placing her husband in this home too just a year before, as it was far superior to one that she did end up choosing. I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who works there and for everything they did; they didn’t just look after my grandad, they looked after every single member of the family visiting too. So thank you.

My friend was admitted to Richmond Heights in January 2019 until he died in November due to dementia. From day one we were impressed with the loving care he received from all the management and nursing staff and the wonderful carers. Nothing was too much trouble for them.

I would like to say a massive thank you to you all and I would recommend this home to anyone.

My nan has lived in care homes for the past 4/5 years as her care had deteriorated due to onset dementia and bipolar, Richmond Heights was her last one before she passed in August.
The home was brilliant, I couldn’t fault with it in any shape or form. The staff were so attentive and caring and this to me, was the most important factor to the home, they would go above and beyond to make sure the residents were comfy and happy and they made it feel like a home.
The home has a minibus which you can book to use, this is a great facility as it meant that we could take my nan out in the wheelchair. The residents always seemed to be engaged in activities. The home was always clean and fresh, again could not fault.

Since her passing, we have recommended the home to another relative in the family and I would recommend this one time and time again. The staff take pride in what they do and put the residents needs first.

My mother spent the last couple of days of her life in Richmond Heights Nursing Home and she could not have had any better care. All the staff were amazing and they also were a huge comfort to me and the rest of my family. Having had a couple of bad experiences with other care homes, I feel I am in a position to make a fair assessment and I know my mother could not have had better care at the end of her life.

On entering the home it's quite pleasant, clean etc.
However, upon entering my Aunty's room the smell was overpowering from the toilet in her room.
She has a right arm which is spastic, and the flush on the toilet is on the right side. I can't even flush it, it's that difficult, so she has no chance, and nobody obviously checks whether her toilet is flushed and clean at all as this is the third visit where it stinks.
Also, the floor of her room had food on it where she had spilt and it had not been swept up.

Attention is sparse. The staff are few and far between when the bell is pressed etc etc.

I cannot rate Richmond Heights highly enough. My mother lived here for 2 years and sometimes could be quite challenging because of her dementia but she was held in genuine affection by the staff. Living the opposite end of the country it was really important for me to know that she was safe and well cared for. My father would visit a couple of times a week and it felt as though he too was being looked after. Not long before mum died the carers arranged a romantic dinner, complete with rose petals on the table, for my parents to celebrate their 64th wedding anniversary together. It was a very special memory for them, and us, to cherish.
In May 2017 after a lengthy stay in hospital, my father needed nursing care and Richmond was the only home we would consider. He was welcomed into the Richmond family once more and really flourished. He became much brighter, cleaner and well dressed, and began reading his newspaper and books again and loved to chat with staff.

He was happy there.

I and my family were very pleased with the care my husband received during the last 2 weeks of his life. The staff were kind and caring. They made my husband very comfortable and pain-free during this time. The staff were very respectful to my husband as they were also to family and friends.

My dad was in here for palliative care. We as a family couldn't wish for any better care with our dad. The staff are willing to go an extra mile to make sure not only the resident but the family are comfortable. When my dad did pass away they looked after him and cared for him with the most respect than anyone could have wished for. If you are looking to have your family in Richmond Heights Care Home, yes have a look and you will find what we saw, a perfect place for your loved one. Some of the staff even came to my dads funeral, that was so nice that they even cared.

When I was looking for a care home for my mother-in-law for end of life care, I read the 1 review on this website and I admit I was slightly nervous but I needn't have been. I visited the home unexpectedly and was greeted very warmly by the Deputy Manager who soon put me at ease. She spent a lot of time finding out all about my mother-in-law and the care she required. In my opinion, the home is very clean and most welcoming. All the staff we met were lovely. I cannot praise them highly enough for all the care they gave her in the last 3 weeks of her life. They treated her with dignity and respect . Everyone we met including the nurses, carers, maintenance man, cleaners, laundry and kitchen staff always had time for a chat with us, took a personal interest in her and tried their utmost to do their best for her. I would not hesitate to recommend this home as it made a very difficult and traumatic time more bearable thanks to the staff working there and the personalised care she received.

My mum has recently become a resident, she has Parkinson's (lewy bodies) and dementia, suffers severe anxiety and has complex needs, she is a very quiet nice lady, who requires routine, and her dementia isn't at a critical stage, short term memory loss. She can still feel the sensations of needing the toilet, but on several occasions has wet herself due to being made to wait for toileting. One occasion 20 minutes in my presence another 30 mins! on the first floor mums certain carers "go missing", there are some very demanding carers that are self trained, but some who don't seem to have grasped the need for dignity, a dementia necessity a key factor. Mum has now got a water infection, she wont drink as much! Because of her dementia she forgets sometimes to eat and refuses food, she just needs prompting or alternative food offered. Some of the staff need some training on dementia, otherwise it's a lovely place, spotlessly clean, location wise perfect. I'm eight minutes walk away, dad and brother, sister is 15 mins away. I would like to state there are some very good staff at Richmond Heights. All cleaners excellent.
