All staff are really friendly and professional. My mum has never had a bad word to say about the Carer's. Staff are very quick to act if she needs a Dr or medical attention. They have lots of daily activities to keep them entertained and have a social media page where you can see this. I find the staff
treat the residents like family. I recommend Abbey Care 100%

My mum has really settled in from respite and likes to join in with the activities. Staff are so helpful, and she is making new friends. I like seeing her on social media joining in.

My dad has been a resident for nearly 3 years as it became unsafe for him to stay at home. He is really settled and loved. He has favourites in the care staff, all are good.

Overall Impressions are good but with certain caveats. Kitchens need to be opened up! Meals prepared on site. Not-pre-cooked ready meals. Regular health checks for residents are carried out, "face-to-face" examinations cannot be made via a computer screen. In respect of value, unable to express any
opinion, having no information on this subject. Room is a bit too small, more space would be welcome. Nursing staff are professional, empathetic and obliging.
Reply from Andrew Wood, Director at Abbey Care VillageThank you for your review and we will pass this feedback onto the team. To address a few points raised the home does not use ready meals. Feedback on the food has been extremely positive from residents and we complete regular taste testing's and menu reviews. In respect to face-to--face examinations having spoken with the home manager I believe you are referring to a GP visit on a virtual teams call unfortunately we have no control on how GP's choose to do specific meetings with relatives and you would need to raise this with the GP. Once again thank you for your review.

Abbey Care Village is just what it says a caring community the staff cannot do enough for you and my mother loves the staff. Mum hasn't always been easy to care for but the staff are wonderfully patient and understand her in such a short time. The manager put me at ease and made the move so easy and
was at the end of the phone to answer all my questions and worries before mum moved in. Thank you to everyone.

We moved my father from another care home and I will say it has been the best decision. We wish we'd moved him here a lot earlier. The level of care is above and beyond what we could have hoped for. Thank you.

If I could give the home 0 then I would. My father went in for urgent respite care with a view to longer care as my mum was struggling to care at home. Every time I visited Dad he was sat in the lounge with other residents facing a wall rather than a TV despite the fact I repeatedly told staff he would
be happier in his room listening to music. There was no stimulation or engagement offered at all. Care records showed the activities coordinator visited residents once in 10 days to give them sweets. Some of the staff were rude and unpleasant. He was dirty every time I visited with faeces on his hands and clothes. Staff said they couldn't clean him due to aggression. Care records did not once record staff going back and trying again when Dad got agitated by strangers trying to wash him in an unfamiliar environment. There were no de-escalation techniques or basic dementia communication. The home manager said she didn't know about my dad's 'behaviours' but my dad does not behave the way he did in that home when in the community. He was like a caged animal, unstimulated, ignored, and showed no care. They also put 'DNACPR' next to Dad's name when not discussed with me. He is 75.
Reply from Andrew Wood, Director at Abbey Care VillageThank you for your review and we are sorry to hear that you were dissatisfied with the care provided. Having looked into this case it appears that the home was provided false information in the pre admission assessment and that the home is not a suitable setting for a resident with such challenging behaviours, had we been provided with the full information it is not an admission we would have allowed. To address some of the areas you have raised the home has a full activity program and full time activities coordinator evidence of the activities taken place can be seen on our website or social media pages. In respect of the DNACPR this is inaccurate and records do not reflect that. Finally staff receive full training on dementia and de escalation techniques.

I cannot praise Abbey Place enough!
Since my 94-year-old Mum came to stay I have noticed a marked improvement in her health and welfare.
She has settled well and I am relieved that she is well looked after.
Staff, including cleaners etc, are all fantastic!

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.539)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.539) out of 10 for Abbey Care Village is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 16 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.702 for Abbey Care Village is calculated as follows: ( (169 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (9 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 191 Ratings = 4.702
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.837 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Abbey Care Village is based on 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.875
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 78 registered maximum number of service users is 15.6. 15 Positive Reviews ÷ 15.6 = 0.962
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
