My father stayed for a brief respite whilst we had a holiday. He enjoyed his stay and loved the events and activities organised by the great and kind entertainer. My dad is well travelled and I think he found the food a little bland. He currently enjoys a good Mediterranean diet and he felt the meals
could do with more imagination. We will definitely use White Rose again and if we need more help for him we'll come back. Thank you.
Reply from Clare Sheehan, Careline Advisor at White Rose HouseThank you for your review, we value all feedback as this helps us to improve our service as required. We are delighted your Father enjoyed his stay with us and found the activities to a high standard. As food is an important part of daily life we would be happy to meet with your Father if he returns to plan a menu to suit his needs.

Although my father is happy and comfortable in his home, White rose, I personally feel improvements could be made to his room e.g. shelf in the bathroom on a slant. His food table always dirty. I now buy my own disinfectant wipes to wipe all surfaces. Staff good with my Dad - some more than others,
but could do with more staff to ensure the residents get the attention they need.
Reply from Claire Hurworth, Care Line Manager at White Rose HouseThank you for your review; we value all feedback, as this helps us to improve our service where required. We have recently reviewed the domestic hours at the home and have made some changes with increased hours to improve the service. As with all care services, staffing levels are monitored and reviewed in line with resident dependencies.

As a visitor to White Rose House, in order to see a friend, I have found it very clean, modern and bright with a welcoming atmosphere and very good layout.
Public rooms and spaces provide the intimacy sometimes needed for patient/visitor privacy, without having to spend time in the bedroom.
I have
found the staff helpful and friendly and the activities and amenities available for patients are excellent.
Altogether, a very pleasant home to visit, with refreshingly bright surroundings and people-friendly atmosphere.

Mum came to White Rose House in 2015 and rapidly settled in, enjoying the relaxed friendly environment. The care staff were competent and attentive, looking after her well and becoming her friends. In her final weeks, she was able to stay in familiar surroundings, attended by friendly staff for whom
nothing was too much trouble.

A month here has enabled me to gain a much more balanced picture, considering personal needs. Splendid carers (both loud and soft!) radiate a spirit of enjoying their work and accomplishing it. Initially, the food was poor, but improvement has been made. Appalling mashed potato, drastic fish and chips,
squished sprouts and cold plates were the order of the day. Now, quiche etc for tea (and garlic mushrooms!) and other changes paint a better picture. Hotter food is a further plus too.

Mum really enjoyed herself. Made friends with residents and staff.

The only downside is paying the full amount for mum's week long residential. However, this is a government issue.

My father was elderly (95) and not accustomed to care services when he entered White Rose. Initially, it was challenging finding the balance between his wanting to be independent and need for the carers to deliver their services. However, after a couple of weeks, he settled into a happy routine and
became very content. He was mentally very alert for his age and enjoyed the interaction with staff.
I cannot praise too highly the professional way in which all the staff coped with his sudden death.

My father was admitted to White Rose House on in December 2016. He was extremely poorly and subsequently passed away at the beginning of February 2017.
During his stay at WRH, he was very well cared for and treated with dignity. The nursing staff were professional and caring and gave 110% every day.
They were very supportive to me at this very difficult time and I appreciate everything they did to make dad comfortable. Thank you.

Due to deteriorating health, my mother wished to move from Coventry to be closer to my family for her end of life journey. I searched for all care homes and chose 4 to visit. From my initial welcome by the manager and subsequent unannounced tour, White Rose House was immediately noted as the favourite.
A subsequent visit and investigations and recommendations from friends and neighbours confirmed this would be ideal for her care.
The welcome and arrival were such a professional smooth operation from the ambulance to bed and her settle in was event free, she asked for a cuddle from one of the staff and it was given and that cemented the start of the level of care I had read/heard about.
Visiting most days I was always greeted with a smile, given an update and as my mother's health deteriorated further I was confident she was always cared for by professionals and was encouraged by all the staff who always said hello/had a little chat to her as they passed.
The nursing staff are fantastic.

My mother has been in the home for nearly 2 years prior to her passing early this week. The care given to her was exemplary. She was treated like a member of the family and the professional and tender care was outstanding. During her last days she was provided with a special bed to ease her discomfort
and 24/7 care.
The home itself is of an extremely high standard, is modern, clean and well run with all staff being attentive and caring.

Puddings should either have a cover to keep warm while eating the first course or should be served after. No other issues: dad's happy, I'm happy.

Food poor choice. Meals too early. Caring staff, friendly and kind.
Not enough staff. Too many agency staff. My room is kept clean and tidy.
Reply from Meridian, Careline Team at White Rose HouseThank you for taking the time to complete a review. We really value the feedback provided by those who use our services.
You have highlighted concerns around the use of agency staff at the home. Meridian aims to deliver the kindest possible care to all Residents, and we know how important it is to provide continuity of care with friendly and familiar staff members to support each Resident. The national shortage of Registered Nurses has impacted on both the NHS and care homes over recent months. We are committed to delivering our vision through recruiting, training, and staffing our homes with all permanent carers and nurses. As such, the use of agency staff is only permitted in our homes when all other options to fill a staffing vacancy have been explored.

You have highlighted concerns about the food on offer at the home, and apologise if we have fallen short of the high standards we aspire to.
Making sure Residents have a choice of their favourite foods is really important to us. We record individual preferences to make sure our fresh food menus are created around what they want most. We are delighted to welcome families and loved-ones to share in mealtimes, and the Sunday roast is a special time at many of our homes.
We have recently asked our Residents about their preferred times for meals and while we aim to be as flexible as possible and to offer choice, the majority of Residents stated that they were happy with current mealtimes.

Thanking you again for taking the time to provide really helpful feedback about the home. We value all feedback and ensure it is recorded and acted upon.
The health, wellbeing, safety, and happiness of Residents are our top priorities, and we work hard every day to ensure we are delivering the high quality, kind care all Residents deserve.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.698)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.698) out of 10 for White Rose House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 14 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.848 for White Rose House is calculated as follows: ( (141 Excellents x 5) + (21 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 164 Ratings = 4.848
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.85 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for White Rose House is based on 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.85
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 62 registered maximum number of service users is 12.4, which has been reached with 14 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
