Aberford Hall Care Home

My dear wife was cared for by the dedicated and thoroughly professional staff of Aberford Hall after her release from hospital where she had been a patient for 2weeks suffering a urinary infection. The care at Aberford Hall was superb, dedicated and kind. Members of the family on visits were welcomed and helped and able to be with her until the end when she died with no fear or pain.

My mother enjoyed all the activities and trips provided. My mother received excellent care for several years until passing away peacefully.

The attention and all staff has been exceptional. They helped my speedy recovery and I am now managing in a sheltered home.

On behalf of the members of my family, I would like to commend the staff team at Aberford Hall Nursing Home.

My Mother only spent eight nights in Aberford Hall because her health was so very poor and she died soon after being admitted. That made her experiences of the last days at the home critical. Due to its peaceful environment and the loving care shown to her by everyone in the team. She was relaxed and calm the whole time. This led to a correspondingly peaceful, even beautiful death and she passed away without fear or anxiety.

It rapidly became apparent that the home's managers allowed and facilitated any requests we had and several examples of the unit's ethos I would like to summarise:

We came and went on a daily basis and there was at no time any feelings of awkwardness or perception experienced by us that we were getting in the way of the running of the home. We were encouraged to go about preparing for the end of our Mother's life in our own personal way.

The staff were well organised but also responded instantly and graciously to any care needs my mother had. They would always stop what they were doing and meet any needs we had immediately. On many occasions, unbeknown to the nurses and support carers, we witnessed kindness and inadvertently overheard conversations that were happening close to where we were. On every occasion, staff were calm, dignified and compassionate. There was a mixture of ages in the team with very little staff turnover. Youthful energy and hope was augmentated by wisdom and experience. Many of the professionals had been at Aberford Hall for a long time and clearly loved their jobs.

On the night before my Mother died, I and my sister asked if we could stay over. The staff on duty kindly made an adjacent room available and helped us make up a bed. We were able to take it in turns to be with our mother, hold her hand and stroke her hair through the long hours of that last night. Staff regularly brought us meals, snacks and cups of tea. We felt very welcomed and supported.

The senior members of the team at Aberford Hall explained everything in a way that helped us understand processes which we had not experienced before. They also always made plain their thinking in terms of the type and amount of medication they were giving, for example. Communication at all times was good. The team was both efficient and very humane.

Perhaps the most important moment for us came when one member of staff helped me with a dilemma. Should we allowed my seven-year-old granddaughter (mum's great granddaughter) to visit with her mum? The choice became obvious following that conversation and the young child throught hard about whether she would like to see my mother one last time. She did decide to visit less than thirty-eight hours before the death. For those moments during the visit, my mother suddenly became astonishingly animated, uttering words which comforted us and spend time stroking her great grandaughter's hair. This opportunity provided my father and all the others present a beautiful moment which we will cherish forever.

We cannot fault in any way a single aspect of the set up at Aberford Hall as a reflection of the highly compassionate approach of the team have decided to recognise this materially. My father will invite those attending my Mother's funeral to make donations to Aberford Hall which we will pass on with our own, for the benefit of those dedicated staff who provided impeccable care and to make a small contribution to the fabric of the premises. Without a thought, we would all recommend that others requiring similar care for their loved ones place their trust in the professionals working at Aberford Hall.

My auntie sadly passed away this week aged 100 after being at the home for about 2 years. I cannot put into words how much we appreciate the way in which my auntie was looked after during the 2 years and at the end of her life. The staff are certainly not paid enough to do such an important job which makes such a difference to the most vulnerable in our society. We will never forget the kindness she was shown.

The care was outstanding. Staff really caring and polite. The nursery home was always clean and tidy.

My mother passed away at Aberford Hall Care Home on the 15th February 2017. She was a very independent and determined person with a strong personality. The care my mother received was excellent. She was particular about her food and they accommodated her requirements, she was treated with care and dignity right up to her final moments. Nothing was too much trouble even on occasions when they seemed short of staff. If I was to say anything negative, the home could do with a coat of paint and new flooring in some of the rooms, but in the end, it's care that counts.

After looking around several care homes in Leeds for my father, we decided Aberford Hall would be the right place for my father. After days of being in Aberford Hall, my father complained that the staff were very rough with him. When I confronted the management team I was told they had lots of agency staff, but things would settle once they had permanent staff. I would not recommend this care home. The staff and management team have no idea how to care for anyone. Aberford Hall was a shocking and terrible place for anyone to be in, let alone the sick and vulnerable.

A very good home, well run, good food and care. Every time I come to see my friend she is clean, well dressed and well looked after, enjoys the games and having her hair and nails done and is very happy in the home.

A lovely home. Very well run, lovely place, lovely people, can't praise them highly enough.

My aunt was a resident at Aberford Hall Care Home for two years. During that time, the standard of care was excellent. She was treated with love, care and dignity throughout. We as a family visited regularly at all times of the day and night. We also were treated by all of the staff with love and care. Aberford Hall Care Home may not have the opulence of 5* facilities, but it does offer 5* care and attention to its residents. End of life care was exemplary.

Came to a coffee morning. Everyone enjoyed the tea and cakes. A nice photo was taken by the carer of mum with cream on her face!

Our mum went there from hospital, we went to look around without an appointment and were welcomed in straight away. The home was very clean and well kept. The staff very welcoming. Mum spent the last five weeks of her life there. The staff encouraged her to join in, bent over backwards to make meals she could eat by pureeing them and doing small recognizable portions. All the staff were very attentive, always popping into the room whenever passing to check on her. Most importantly they made her feel welcome and special. We were very happy with everything.

Clean, pleasant and friendly, sociable staff. All the residents appear happy, my relative is happy here and is always clean and well cared for when I visit.

I feel that my sister is getting all the attention she needs. When she goes to any activities she fully enjoys them and gets involved as much as possible, this helps with her movement and I am so very pleased about this. The trips outside the home have been great for her and she has enjoyed these too to the full. I am so very pleased we have chosen Aberford Hall and I've told others about it.

From the start the person in question was treated with care and dignity. The building inside was fresh and clean no odours or smells. The staff have been so helpful and kind and we could talk to them any time within reason, not disturbing them as they work their duties. The staff were so polite and friendly asking if we needed a drink for my friend. For the short time my friend was in Aberford Hall it made the difference. As a family we are grateful for the way she was treated and were not judged by anyone. Thank you this does ease pain for the loss of my friend.

My husband seems very happy here. The activities are wonderful. I accompanied him on a lovely shopping trip.

The home is very good. The staff treat my mother very well, the food etc is always very good. The major problem is there is a lack of space and access to the outside world without going out ie. a sun room to the garden where when visiting it would be possible to sit in some privacy and space with relatives. Also for the residents to enjoy the outside world in summer without sitting in the breeze.

My father was moved into Aberford Hall directly from hospital. The transition was as smooth as it could have been and the staff and management were helpful and reassuring from the start. Dad has settled in quickly and full thanks to the efforts of the staff. He is both cared for and stimulated. Aberford Hall has regular social events for the patients. The premises and room are clean and tidy and the food and drink is both regular and of a high standard. The benefits to dad from being in Aberford Hall are clear to see.
