Excellent care home my mum didn't want to be in a care home, but when she went into Hesslewood she was very happy to stay after the rest bit period was over. We as a family are very happy for our mum. The care home Hesslewood is fantastic could not rate this home more highly.

I have been connected to the home for several years, as my mother-in-law was there before my dad, so I think that alone will tell you how happy we have been. The staff and carers are all lovely and very happy to help the residents and their families.

The most important thing is that my mother receives excellent care. She is happy and content and feels safe. Myself and my Mum have a great rapport with management and staff, there is nothing that we can not discuss with them. The staff and management listen and resolve any issues quickly and efficiently.
Everyone is friendly and professional. My Mum especially enjoys the activities such as dominoes bingo and the visits from the hairdressers. I highly recommend Heslewood House care home.

My parents have both been residents at Hesslewood. My mum had alzheimers and she was so well looked after. Mum declined rapidly after a stay in hospital and it was such a relief when she was able to go back to Hesslewood to be cared for again.

Dad is still a resident there. He enjoys the many activies

that are organised daily for the residents. Including games, quizzes, bingo and also walks outside in the lovely grounds. Often there is entertainment. Including singers coming in. Plus trips out to different places.

The staff go to a lot of trouble to arrange events that include the families, including a Christmas meal and mothers day afternoon tea.
There are wonderful themed decorations for things like Christmas, Easter, Halloween and other holidays.

In summary it is an excellent care home with caring staff and is in a lovely location.

Reply from Jackie Brook, Head of Marketing and PR at Hesslewood House Care HomeThank you very much for taking the time to share your experience.

We're truly grateful that your mum was able to return to Hesslewood House following her hospital stay, and that she received the care, comfort and support she needed during such a difficult time. It means a great deal to know she was well looked after.

We're also delighted to hear that your dad continues to enjoy life at the home - from the daily activities and entertainment to time spent outdoors in the gardens. Creating opportunities for residents to stay active, engaged and connected, while also welcoming families to share in special occasions, is something our team takes great pride in.

Thank you again for your kind words about our staff, surroundings and the atmosphere of the home. They will be shared with the team, who will be very proud to know the difference they are making.

With warm regards,
The Hesslewood House Team

Absolutely amazing care home!
Staff are amazing and very friendly and treat residents with the respect they deserve
Rooms and communal areas always kept clean and tidy.
The activities they provide each day to keep residents entertained is absolutely brilliant.
Also can really see a difference
in my mother-in-law since she has been there these last few months, it's like she's got a new zest for life, I've not seen her this happy for a long time so is great to see when we see her.
Would very highly recommend to anyone looking for somewhere for their loved one.

The most amazing place. My mum had been in other care homes locally and I wasn't happy with her care so I got her moved to hesslewood and the difference in her is unbelievable. She is so happy. It's like a holiday camp for her. The entertainment, the staff, the care she gets is unrivalled. I can't thank
the staff enough for how they've treated her and got her involved in the many activities they put on. It has given me so much pleasure when I see her that she tells me how happy she is.

We are truly delighted to hear how happy your mum is at Hesslewood House, and that you've seen such a positive change in her since moving to the home. Knowing that she feels settled, supported and able to enjoy such a full and engaging lifestyle means a great deal to our entire team.

Our colleagues work incredibly hard to create a warm, welcoming environment where residents feel at home, valued and encouraged to take part in activities that bring them joy and purpose. Hearing that this has made such a difference to your mum - and has given you peace of mind - is exactly why they do what they do.

Mum came into home for respite in June . I've found the staff very approachable, professional, helpful & very supportive. The seniors & care staff really do work very hard to provide excellent care even under sometimes immense pressure. With exceptionally kept grounds/building is a pleasure to visit
modern clean and well kept . Staff I have met are always happy to help, two particular staff members very supportive , their teams work hard especially noticed 7 members of staff in particular to name a few go the extra mile and I know my mum is happy and secure in their care . I feel an extra pair of hands would go a long way ..as residents needs are never ending, due to needing specialist care.. management ensure residents and families can attend monthly meetings/are always there to talk whenever needed. They have some activity's , encouraging residents to participate. Admin staff make a warm welcome giving the whole place One big welcoming homely feel

My mother has been a resident of Hesslewood House for a year now. A great location for a care home and surrounded by lovely grounds, we often take mum out in the wheelchair when the weather permits. All those who work at the home are wonderful and it's great to see the same cheery faces when we go for
visits. Any questions regarding mums care are always answered quickly and in a friendly manner. Staff always make time to talk face to face which is much appreciated. The home is always clean and welcoming. Recent upgrades to the communal areas have really brightened up the interior. It's always a good sign to see continual investment within such organisations. Mum is always well presented and enjoys the many activities that are provided for the residents. It is such a relief that I and my family know that mum is so well looked after by the terrific team at Hesslewood.

My mum has been in Hesslewood House for coming up to 7 months now and during that time, there has been endless decorating/themed projects in operation. There is a beautiful hair salon, an American themed dining room, cinema with large screen and cinema seats, a tasteful seating area over looking the
beautiful gardens and endless decorating around the residential areas. The most recent project has been the reception area which has been decorated beautifully, tastefully furnished with such attention to detail. For any family member or friend that comes to visits, it's such a comfort knowing our loved one's are looked after and live in such beautiful surroundings.

Mum has been at Hesslewood House Care Home for over a year now and we couldn't have chosen a better place for her to live. The staff are the most amazing, caring, thoughtful people. Like a lot of families who have to make the tough decision to place their loved one into a care home, we were apprehensive
but Hesslewood House has been such a good choice. Any doubts that lingered in the depths of our minds were allayed the day my sister walked into mum's room (the door was open) to find one of the staff sitting on her bed cuddling her and talking to her just as we would. This is the loving attitude of everyone at Hesslewood House. Mum's dementia means she can be difficult, sometimes very difficult but they reassure just like us somehow letting her harsh words go straight over their heads while we reel! No day is mundane, events (and there are many) are inconclusive of family and the atmosphere of normality is amazing, residents miss out on nothing. Supermarket trips, pub lunches, walks.

I can not praise the Manager and staff enough at Hesslewood House Care home. My brother is lucky enough to be a resident at the care home for over a year now, he is very happy and settled there. The residents are taking care of so well. There are lots of activities and shows etc. for the residents and
families, you have to see it to believe how exceptional the displays and decorations are for absolutely every event. So much hard work and thought is put in to each event.
Such commitment, dedication and care for all the residents from the Manager and staff, fabulous care home.

The whole experience of admitting Dad to Hesslewood House Care Home has been very positive and Dad is settling very well.
The home has a very welcoming feel and the staff are lovely, kind and caring.
Dad’s room is bright and clean.
There’s regular entertainment and activities and there seems to
be an ethos of fun and laughter.
Dad’s really enjoying the food, it’s plentiful and there’s lots of choice.
The home’s grounds are beautiful and I’m looking forward to taking Dad for walks around the gardens.
Thank you to everyone at Hesslewood for looking after my dear dad.

My mum (unfortunately now deceased) was in Hesslewood House Care Home for a year, she was a shy, reserved and private person, the care of all staff was second to none, the food was lovely. I occasionally had lunch with her. When she was at end of life again the staff were lovely and very accommodating,
I was with her for her final few days and nothing was too much trouble, she was cared for with dignity and care to the very end. I highly recommend Hesslewood House from experience.

The room is lovely and clean, the food is really good and there is plenty of choices. The staff are lovely but I do think there should be more staff working there as sometimes they run off their feet, and for what the residents pay per week there should be enough staff to be able to go to hospital appointments
etc. The staff that do work there are really friendly at all times.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.774) out of 10 for Hesslewood House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 15 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.899 for Hesslewood House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (163 Excellents x 5) + (14 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 179 Ratings = 4.899
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.875 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hesslewood House Care Home is based on 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.875
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 66 registered maximum number of service users is 13.2, which has been reached with 15 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
