They have been very strict with sticking to the Covid rules and been very helpful on the phone when answering any worries.
They have all kept really cheerful with what must have been very demanding times on them.
I can only say that everything about Southlands is far excellent. The staff, the surrounding gardens, just everything about it is wonderful.
The communal areas of the home are tastefully decorated and furnished, for example, the dining room is furnished like a quality restaurant; it's a lovely place to eat and chat.
The building is in a beautiful location with well-kept grounds, combined with the good atmosphere in the home; it's a great environment for the residents.
During the Pandemic and owing to the distance I live from Southlands, I have been unable to see my Mum in 10-months. Knowing the staff at Southlands, I have been able to rest assured that she is in a safe environment with caring people. I know care homes have faced their challenges, and I have been impressed with the arrangements staff at Southlands put into place to allow those relatives a visit to be able to do so, and communication has been clear and regular. I thank them for their invaluable work, under very difficult circumstances.
The staff have always been friendly and helpful, at least in intent. It can be difficult to get through on the phone especially at weekends. The covid situation is difficult particularly for a resident with Alzheimer's. It is understood that regulations have to be followed. I also understand that staff are busy - (possibly less staff available) and that lack of visiting family creates more pressure on staff. However, my mother does complain a lot of being by herself (I know she is reluctant to join in activities which may be available). She also does not seem to know who to ask about needs (like her toenails need cutting). When I draw attention to a need it is generally fulfilled. However, requests for information about clothing needs do not result in any feedback so far. On the positive side, Mum looks physically well when I have been able to see her. The visiting arrangements as autumn arrived were not good - too cold at an open window for a very elderly person. Winter arrangements?
My grandad has moved to Southlands initially for respite but he is doing so well and looks amazing with the wonderful care and attention he is receiving, It’s looking like a long term option to keep him safe moving towards his 94th year.
Since my neighbours moved into the home on respite, they felt safe and secure from day one. When her husband passed away, the wife was treated with professional courtesy, care and support from all staff and management. From which all of this is why the wife is really happy and contented living here.
We would think anybody entering Southlands would find a similar experience. Well done indeed.
Southlands Care Home provided excellent care for my sister for nearly 2-years before she passed away. The staff were exceptional, very accommodating, nothing was too much trouble for them, and they made sure the residents were happy, well cared for and had different forms of entertainment which they could join in if they wanted to. The home is full of laughter which is how all homes should be. In addition, the rooms are spotless. I would definitely recommend this care home to anyone who was looking for a lovely care home to provide care for their family or friends.
After a short time, she told me she wanted to stay.
Several times since, she has told me that I could not have found her a better place. She thinks the staff are wonderful and the food is excellent.
I too have found the staff remarkable, particularly during the trials and tribulations of the Covid virus.
The experience so far has been such a relief to me, and long may it continue.
A big thank you to everyone at Southlands.
I find Southlands a very good care home, the carers and all the admin are first class everyone seems so very friendly and kind. My mother seems to have settled very well and always praises everyone to me, her daughter. I've also noticed the food looks first class and they have plenty of drinks and cakes. All the residents look clean and tidy. Thanks so much to Southlands for looking after my mum so very well and also making me feel so happy. What super staff. Thanks for Southlands.
Having concerns where we were going to put my father, I can only say that my sister and I were soon put at ease by everyone at Southlands - lovely location and the caring staff is a big plus and the fact we can tell how happy my dad seems in the circumstances says it all really. I would not wish to end up in a care home but as several friends have said who have visited my dad with me, we would all choose Southlands if we had to pick one.
The staff there are wonderful and go the extra mile for their residents. I was very happy with the care they gave my mum. It was her second care home, I was not happy with the first one for various reasons. The staff and manager at Southlands were professional and friendly to residents and their family, because that is important too, to feel reassured. Between visits, due to not living in the area, I regularly e-mailed the manager or shift leader and got immediate responses. I used to ring regularly too and they used to pass the phone on so I could speak to my mum. I cannot say anything negative about Southlands. They deserve a much higher rating. Nice place, nice staff, professionally run and the staff really do care.
My mum has been here for two years. When she first came the home was failing and the staff and management was terrible. Since CQC was brought in, it has gone from strength to strength. The carers are brilliant everyone of them. I actually feel like family. My mum is looked after well and loved too. The home could have for activities but overall good.
My Aunt moved to Southlands in November 2018 after spending a year in another facility in a different county. I knew instantly on my first visit just to look around that Southlands was where my aunt needed to be. The room I picked was bright, spacious and pretty with a lovely ensuite toilet & sink. It was a warm and friendly welcome with an open and honest discussion right from the beginning because as it was said to me, communication is everything. Everyone knew that when my aunt moved into Southlands that she was terminally ill and was given the tenderest care, shown true affection and the utmost respect during every aspect of her treatment by every member of staff. I was there daily at different times and witnessed nothing but respect and kindness to the residents from all the staff. The food was good and my aunt put on weight. Sadly she passed away there, quietly and peacefully and I was fully supported by everyone, they went above and beyond what I expected. I can’t praise them enough.
Although only there for a week, the staff obviously took time to get to know her, listened to us as a family and were genuinely caring in their approach to my grandmother and to us as visitors.
I visited daily, and each day I could see evidence of the care that had been provided, and things that staff had done to add that extra bit of sparkle to each day.
My grandmother was comfortable and well cared for in a clean, pleasant environment. We are so happy she was able to spend her last days in your care. Thank you.
Following some problems, Southlands staff are putting in a lot of effort to improve and provide a good service. They always listen to requests and respond as required.
I find all the staff, caring, approachable and welcoming. The care and attention they give my mum is really good. Some staff go out of their way to reassure mum when it is needed.
Southlands is a loving, caring environment. Staff are excellent and always do their best to accommodate. Lovely and clean (never smells as some homes do!). Food is very good. Nearly as good as being at home.
Well done Southlands!
