St Margaret's Care Home is situated in Grimsby on Littlecoates Road. It provides residential, nursing and EMI care for elderly people and those with mental health needs or dementia.

The home is set in a series of attractive themed gardens which are very popular with residents, including the Rose Garden, the Royal Garden, a pond and a wildlife area. Residents enjoy looking at the gardens from their rooms, sitting out when the weather is good and getting involved with weeding, planting and harvesting fruit.

A packed and varied programme of activities is offered by two friendly Activity Coordinators. This includes pamper days (haircuts, shaving, manicures, pedicures, massages, makeup), exercise (gentle games and movement), games (bingo, quiz, bocca), art and craft (painting, drawing, colouring, making), knit and natter and baking.

Therapies such as sensory sessions with light, sound, touch and scent are on offer, as is the popular pet therapy where animals visit for cuddles, as well as reminiscence sessions to remember good times and memories.

Monthly church services are available for those who want them and there are lots of days out to the seaside, local garden centres, shopping, evenings at the theatre and trips to the pub.

Individuals have choice as to how they spend their time and everyone has a person-centred care plan.

Staff are friendly, dedicated and professional and there are qualified nurses on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The team at St Margaret's work closely with local professionals such as GPs, dieticians, speech therapists, physiotherapists, social workers and other healthcare professionals.

The home is a warm and welcoming environment where people are treated with dignity and respect.

My mother has been in the care of St Margaret’s Nursing Home for just over five weeks now and in that time the improvement in her health and well being has been remarkable. She is more alert (and looks it), she has a good deal more conversation, she is eating more (and looking forward to her food) and
she is walking (with assistance) which she hasn’t really done for some long time now. We realise that these are still early days but all members of the family ( 11 of us have visited at different times so far and some of us on several occasions) are very pleasantly surprised and cheered by this improvement in my mother’s condition which we attribute to the care and attention which she is now receiving at St Margaret’s. Every member of St Margaret’s team has been approachable and helpful and nothing is too much trouble. The home is bright and busy and welcoming.

My mum was in St Margaret's Care Home for only a short period of time while waiting to be moved to a rehabilitation unit. In that time I felt my mum was not treated with the respect she deserved by some members of staff, particularly by a senior staff member. There was little or no communication between
staff and family members, and we were made to feel that approaching senior staff with questions to help my mum settle in were dealt with in a very defensive manner, that was not helpful or welcoming. My mum was discharged and sent to the rehab centre without any communication to the family who was not aware that this was happening. As my mum is very deaf she needs extra support with communicating and that did not happen.
