I just love that my mum is in such a safe environment. The staff are often very busy but they always make themselves available to help and support. From the reception and admin, carers and nurses, and right up to boots on the ground management, they always have the answers to my questions or if they don't, they will find out. My mum is terminally ill, as her oncologist said to her in her monthly phone call today, her prognosis is "lay flat on the bed, drink plenty of fluids and take pain relief. This is heartbreaking for both my mum and me but I feel happy enough, knowing she is in St Cecilias as everyone I have had an experience with seems to do their job from a patient centred place and seem to be making my mums final dance, as stress free for both her and myself as could possibly be. Mums room isn't the best as it is so small, it is like a box room but I believe they would move her if we requested and another room was available. Thank you to all staff for looking after my best mate

Outstanding nursing home with a friendly, welcoming and highly professional staff. The home is in very good order in terms of its cleanliness, lightness and airiness.

My cousin Angela is very well looked after. She has been a resident in the home for over 11 years. She has cerebral palsy, and it not only affects her physical movement, but she is unable to talk in a normal way. The staff do so much for her. It is very pleasing.

From the moment I entered the home I knew my friend Bernice was absolutely in the right place, just from the way I was greeted by Marie on Reception. She was so helpful and kind, understanding that it's not always easy to visit when one is anxious about how an older friend is.
I'd never have believed that Marie had only been in post 2 weeks, as she told me.

Jane, (Nurse) who I met on my first visit, was as friendly and supportive as previously and as equally knowledgeable. Upstairs, in my friend's room( guided there all the way by Marie! Wow!) I met Daniella who's looking after B. A lovely young woman, so calm, so gentle&so efficient. She gently helped B from bed to sit with me&talk, ensuring we would be able to get a cuppa!(Brought up by fab Jola!) Daniella was happy to tell me how B's doing&re her eating (much improved ref the local hospital!)The room's nice, cosy, a great view.B can watch TV easily, which makes her V happy. I totally recommend this home to all. Thanks so much Maggie

I live a long way from where my grandmother lives and only visit every 18 months to 2 years. Whenever I visit, the staff recognise this and go above and beyond to make me/us welcome and ensure our family can visit together. The social media page is a fantastic link when I can't visit in person. My grandmother always looks well cared for and happy.

On the day I visited my mother with my family we were welcomed into a private room for lunch with her. Mum had been taking part in activities out in the sunshine before being brought in for lunch. The helpful and considerate staff introduced themselves with a friendly welcome and ensured my mother and ourselves what we needed. On our visit a few days later this was repeated and again my mother was brought from an activity session to have time with us provided in the dining room on both occasions she was clean and well dressed, we able to drive home knowing she is well looked after.

Everything is perfect about this home.
The staff are kind and caring, the activities for the residents are well organised and the introduction of birds and animals is a great idea. My husband visibly brightens when live animals are brought to him. Animals, especially cats, have always been a part of our life together and we've never lived without them.

I also can't speak too highly about the staff. They treat my husband with care, laughter and respect and he loves everyone who cares for him. A very big thank you.

The home has a new management team but continues in the same ownership. I live a long distance away and was worried about who I would be able to speak to about Mum. The new team have gone to great lengths to give me the opportunity to meet and get to know them all. I am very satisfied and Mum is very happy here.

My friend was released from hospital too early. St Cecilia's nursing home stepped in on a Sunday and took him in when A&E just kept sending him home. He was made very welcome by all the staff. They have looked after him really well keeping his pain under control and taking him to hospital for appointments and when he had another fall (nothing to do with Saint Cecilia's, he was being taken for a walk out of the homes grounds). He is now able to come home with carers in place. I would like to thank St Cecilia's for all the care and consideration that has been shown to him.

I couldn't have found a better home for my mum. The home is very clean and well managed by all staff and management. They give excellent care to the residents. Nothing is too much bother. They treat residents as if they are their own family.

Dad recently moved into St Cecilia’s Nursing Home after two stays in the hospital. Until 31 December, he was completely independent, living in an assisted living facility. After a fall, two days in A and E, he is now completely dependent (also pressure sores developed in the hospital). Dad is not very communicative and super stoic, never complaining ever about any pain and is almost deaf. We were concerned that his new needs might not be understood well because of his communication issues. He has only been in St Cecilia’s a week, but our collective reaction as a family is that for the first time since he first went into the hospital, we don’t have to be permanently anxious about whether he is being looked after properly. We have been impressed with the transparent, kind, careful responses to our queries by management and staff as they get to know Dad. There will always be ups and down but what we see is a big sustained effort to do the right thing by some very ill people.

Today I lost my best friend, but it isn’t a sad day; her husband came for her. She was looked after so well here, and she has been in a lot of homes but is really settled here. She loved all staff, as they did her. I can not thank them enough for what they have done to keep her settled and pain-free as much as possible. If anyone out there is in doubt about their loved ones going in here, please take it from me; the staff here have time for their residents. 100% do not hesitate to look around - you get the feeling straight away.

Daniela Botelho
Daniela BotelhoJob Title:Home ManagerJoined: 2015

Winner of the Nurse of the Year accolade at our awards night in 2023, Dani has been described as “an angel” for the way she delivers compassionate, person-centred care.

Previously Clinical Lead, it was Dani’s role to manage the home and ensure the team was providing the best nursing care for those who needed it at our home.

Dani trained to be a nurse in her home country of Portugal before taking the very brave decision to move, with her boyfriend, to the UK in 2015 in search of greater opportunities.

She began at the nursing home as a care assistant, whilst she found her feet and got to grips with the language and the way we deliver care in this country. She soon settled in and her excellent nursing skills and empathetic nature saw her rise through the ranks as a nurse, senior nurse, clinical lead and now manager.

“We help and support each other, which is very important in ensuring we deliver the right care for our residents,” says Dani. “That idea of creating a family atmosphere is really important. When residents arrive, they might feel lonely as they have left their homes and familiar surroundings. We work hard to transmit a family welcome to them to help them to settle in and feel happy, safe and content.”

She now describes herself as ‘part of the furniture’ and says she loves her work and the opportunity to properly get to know the residents, which is less possible in a hospital environment.

“It makes it so much easier to provide the proper care when you have known a resident for a long time and they know and trust you,” she adds. “No day is ever the same and it is a very rewarding job, providing care for someone. Often it is the little things that are important, stopping to have a conversation and a laugh with a resident can make their day. For me, knowing you have made a difference in someone’s life gives me the greatest satisfaction.”

Laura Fielding
Laura FieldingJob Title:Catering ManagerJoined: 2015
Of all our team, Laura Fielding is one of the most important as we believe providing our residents with tasty and nutritious food is vital.
And the catering couldn’t be in better hands than those of our award-winning chef and Catering Manager, Laura.
She is passionate about good food and about giving the residents choice. On a typical day Laura will prepare, from scratch, lunch for 42 residents and around 20 staff.
Residents get a choice of three main courses and if they don’t like those, Laura will prepare something different - if you fancy fish and chips, then fish and chips you will have!
“Meals are a really important, social part of the day and the residents really look forward to them so we do everything we can to give them a good choice of tasty, nutritious and enjoyable food,” she says. “We take into account every dietary requirement and personal preference to tailor a menu for each individual so that food is another area where our residents feel cared for and valued.”
That dedication earned Laura the Chef of the Year Award at the Yorkshire and Humberside Great British Care Awards in 2020.
She takes every little detail into account – right down to individual residents preferring one vegetable against another and is passionate about food being made properly.
In how many nursing homes would the toasted teacake at teatime be made from scratch – flour, sugar, yeast, fruit and so on?
We love a celebration and Laura will knock-up a mouth-watering buffet (with homemade scones, quiches, pizza, doughnuts and cakes of course) or create a themed birthday cake, at the drop of a hat. She creates cakes for anything from a Royal Wedding to the FA Cup Final.

Laura splits her time between cooking at the nursing home and supporting the cooking staff at Saint Cecilia’s other homes in her role as Catering Manager for the whole group.

Evans Sarbeng
Evans SarbengJob Title:NurseJoined: 2022

Ghana-born nurse Evans Sarbeng is one of 32 staff recruited by Saint Cecilia’s Care Group from overseas in the past year and is playing a vital role in delivering care in our centres.

Evans grew up in Duayaw Nkwanta in southern Ghana and after school went to a nurse training college in Berekum.

Following three years’ training he did the mandatory year of work for the Government at the St John of God Hospital in his home town before going to work at the Mount Sinai Hospital in Kumasi.

Evans was tempted by the job at Saint Cecilia’s by the opportunity to take up a new challenge and progress in his profession. After an interview across Zoom, he arrived in this country in November and after a month’s training started at the nursing home in December. He is thoroughly enjoying working at Saint Cecilia’s, particularly getting to know the residents well.

“They are amazing,” he says. “A pleasure to look after. We lift each other – if they are feeling down, we lift them up and if we are feeling low, they cheer us up too.”

Away from the nursing home, Evans has thrown himself into football, joining Aaron and Jordan Padgham playing for the Goal Sports team.
