St Cecilia's gives my uncle all of the most important things he requested to be safe, comfortable and cared for. I was put in charge of sourcing his care, and I found St Cecilia's to be the most suitable for his needs, with a great atmosphere of caring and professionalism.

My brother became a resident in February 2022. I visit regularly -once or twice a week. The staff and managers at the home have treated my brother with care, respect and cheerfulness. They are always friendly towards me and take time to talk through any questions that I have. We couldn't have chosen
a better place.

It's now seven months on from Mum's discharge from hospital into Saint Cecilia's Nursing Home. I just wanted to pass on my thanks to the amazing team, who play a part in looking after my mum.
I cannot express enough how exceptional the whole team are. Mum is always telling us how wonderful everyone
is. The vibe you get is just like calling on family.
The staff's patience, friendliness and kindness go above and beyond in the excellent care, understanding and support they provide.
Knowing Mum is happy and well cared for is wonderful.

My mother had her 100th birthday on 6th January. I arranged with the deputy manager to have 14 of my family, ages 9 to 82. A cake was provided, a bottle of bubbly and sweets. They took photographs and put them in an email which we could send to my brother in Australia. The party lasted two hours. The
staff were excellent. The home is very good for the money paid. I am very happy with my mother being there.

Mum's 100th Birthday, and despite Covid restrictions, I think she really enjoyed her day. The staff were wonderful in organising the video call for relatives who couldn't see Mum personally. The room had been decorated and was welcoming. A lot of effort had gone into making her day the best.

I have been made very welcome by staff and reception at all times, shown the lift and taken to the room the first time I visited. The service user is in bed at this time but knew who I was and is kept very clean and happy that she is being looked after. She is a bit confused at times, but the nurse
was very good and explained everything to her in such a way that she settled straight away.

I have always found the workers to be caring and helpful. They always answered the telephone, and if you couldn't speak to your relative straight away, they always rang you back. Mum says she enjoyed the food and also found the carers helpful. Could have had a better variety of activities though.

Mum was admitted to Saint Cecilia's after being discharged from the rehab/hospital care. This was not a decision I was consulted on, so I had not done and
"research" into her "continuing care". Having said that, the care and treatment Mum receives are very good. The staff are welcoming and competent
during what has been a harrowing time during the Covid pandemic/lockdowns etc. Mum is well looked after and seems very happy and contented when I visit, and for 92-years-old, this is all we hope for. Thank you.

My mum has only been in Saint Cecilia's for three weeks. It is early days, but I have found the receptionists are very friendly and helpful. The carers have been kind to Mum, and she is always full of praise for them. Her room is too small, but Mum is comfortable, warm and well-fed.

Resident has only been in Saint Cecilia's for two months. I have only visited twice due to isolation and me not living locally. I am happy with the overall care and have had good communication with and from staff but would have liked to have been included in the personal care plan on admission.

When my dad arrived at Saint Cecilia's, he didn't like his room, and he was unhappy. When I mentioned this time the home, they moved Dad straight away to another room. I must say, all the staff, whoever their duties are/were wonderful, always knew my dad and what he'd been up to. I thank everybody
at the home for looking after my dad with compassion. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Very welcoming and helpful, but most of all, my aunty seems much happier. I don't think I've seen her this calm in many years. She's gone from a very nervous/anxious old lady to one that is calm and happy. So good to see her like that. Staff seems to genuinely care with good feedback. Staff know her
well and know what she needs. Thank you!

My husband went into respite care to ease things for me. He has Alzheimer's, and I didn't know how it would go. He can be demanding at times. Everyone involved in his care at Saint Ceilia's was wonderful. He wasn't in a hurry to leave! Showered and manicured too - what a blessing.

Today, 23rd August 2021, is the first time I have been able to visit my cousin due firstly to the long-distance I have to travel and then to lockdown during Covid restrictions. When I telephone Saint Cecilia's, requiring whether a visit was possible, all the necessary procedures of obtaining a lateral
flow test was clearly explained. An appointment was made, and full protection was supplied when I arrived. I found the home very clean and well organised, and all the staff friendly. Much improved since my last visit.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.472)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.472) out of 10 for Saint Cecilia's Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.772 for Saint Cecilia's Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (81 Excellents x 5) + (18 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 101 Ratings = 4.772
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.7 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Saint Cecilia's Nursing Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 44 registered maximum number of service users is 8.8, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Daniela

Daniela Botelho

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2015

Winner of the Nurse of the Year accolade at our awards night in 2023, Dani has been described as “an angel” for the way she delivers compassionate, person-centred care.

Previously Clinical Lead, it was Dani’s role to manage the home and ensure the team was providing the best nursing care for those who needed it at our home.

Dani trained to be a nurse in her home country of Portugal before taking the very brave decision to move, with her boyfriend, to the UK in 2015 in search of greater opportunities.

She began at the nursing home as a care assistant, whilst she found her feet and got to grips with the language and the way we deliver care in this country. She soon settled in and her excellent nursing skills and empathetic nature saw her rise through the ranks as a nurse, senior nurse, clinical lead and now manager.

“We help and support each other, which is very important in ensuring we deliver the right care for our residents,” says Dani. “That idea of creating a family atmosphere is really important. When residents arrive, they might feel lonely as they have left their homes and familiar surroundings. We work hard to transmit a family welcome to them to help them to settle in and feel happy, safe and content.”

She now describes herself as ‘part of the furniture’ and says she loves her work and the opportunity to properly get to know the residents, which is less possible in a hospital environment.

“It makes it so much easier to provide the proper care when you have known a resident for a long time and they know and trust you,” she adds. “No day is ever the same and it is a very rewarding job, providing care for someone. Often it is the little things that are important, stopping to have a conversation and a laugh with a resident can make their day. For me, knowing you have made a difference in someone’s life gives me the greatest satisfaction.”

Laura

Laura Fielding

Job Title: Catering Manager Joined: 2015

Of all our team, Laura Fielding is one of the most important as we believe providing our residents with tasty and nutritious food is vital.
And the catering couldn’t be in better hands than those of our award-winning chef and Catering Manager, Laura.
She is passionate about good food and about giving the residents choice. On a typical day Laura will prepare, from scratch, lunch for 42 residents and around 20 staff.
Residents get a choice of three main courses and if they don’t like those, Laura will prepare something different - if you fancy fish and chips, then fish and chips you will have!
“Meals are a really important, social part of the day and the residents really look forward to them so we do everything we can to give them a good choice of tasty, nutritious and enjoyable food,” she says. “We take into account every dietary requirement and personal preference to tailor a menu for each individual so that food is another area where our residents feel cared for and valued.”
That dedication earned Laura the Chef of the Year Award at the Yorkshire and Humberside Great British Care Awards in 2020.
She takes every little detail into account – right down to individual residents preferring one vegetable against another and is passionate about food being made properly.
In how many nursing homes would the toasted teacake at teatime be made from scratch – flour, sugar, yeast, fruit and so on?
We love a celebration and Laura will knock-up a mouth-watering buffet (with homemade scones, quiches, pizza, doughnuts and cakes of course) or create a themed birthday cake, at the drop of a hat. She creates cakes for anything from a Royal Wedding to the FA Cup Final.
Laura splits her time between cooking at the nursing home and supporting the cooking staff at Saint Cecilia’s other homes in her role as Catering Manager for the whole group.

Evans

Evans Sarbeng

Job Title: Nurse Joined: 2022

Ghana-born nurse Evans Sarbeng is one of 32 staff recruited by Saint Cecilia’s Care Group from overseas in the past year and is playing a vital role in delivering care in our centres.

Evans grew up in Duayaw Nkwanta in southern Ghana and after school went to a nurse training college in Berekum.

Following three years’ training he did the mandatory year of work for the Government at the St John of God Hospital in his home town before going to work at the Mount Sinai Hospital in Kumasi.

Evans was tempted by the job at Saint Cecilia’s by the opportunity to take up a new challenge and progress in his profession. After an interview across Zoom, he arrived in this country in November and after a month’s training started at the nursing home in December. He is thoroughly enjoying working at Saint Cecilia’s, particularly getting to know the residents well.

“They are amazing,” he says. “A pleasure to look after. We lift each other – if they are feeling down, we lift them up and if we are feeling low, they cheer us up too.”
Away from the nursing home, Evans has thrown himself into football, joining Aaron and Jordan Padgham playing for the Goal Sports team.
