Sowerby House

My stepmother Brenda has been in Sowerby House for three months. Initially Brenda was very unhappy being placed in a care home. But after a relatively short time she has now settled in. The main reason why she now feels settled is due to the exceptionally compassionate and caring staff who make Sowerby House a very welcoming home. Maria, Anthony and Emily & the management team are very friendly, relaxed and organised. The home is exceptionally clean and the food, prepared by a chef is excellent. I would have no hesitation recommending Sowerby House to anyone needing respite or care.

My friend is a lot safer in Sowerby House than she was at home when she was spending time alone and without assistance. The round the clock help she received is essential for someone in her condition. The staff are responsive to any concerns that I have for her welfare.

Six months since my husband entered Sowerby House it felt like such an ordeal, this being necessary. However the complete staff are to be praised for their care and support. I would have liked to name them. Always welcoming when I visit and providing I ask the right person are willing to answer queries and worries. It's a pleasure to see the enjoyment residents get from the organised musical activities. A negative would be loss of clothing and personal items. Overall well done.

An amazing place to be as you grow older! Warm and welcoming. Went as they had musical moments on for our friend. Just a lovely caring atmosphere.

Made very welcome and shown to bedroom, which was not suitable for my needs, very small, difficulty accessing toilet, I use a walking frame and a wheelchair so was a bit restricted. I stayed for 8 nights, the room was nice and warm and had view into garden, food was great.

My step father has only been a resident at Sowerby House for the last 3 months. He has settled in without any issues at all and is very content being there. The staff are amazing and very caring- he responds to them very well. The home is very clean and well decorated, his room even though small is adequate for his needs, overall I'm very impressed with Sowerby House and would recommend to any other family that needed such a facility for a family member.

The home has such a welcome feeling! Friendly and helpful staff, nothing is ever a problem. This home has come such a long way over the past couple of years and my mother is very happy! Every resident is encouraged to be involved in activities and really seem to enjoy everything that is on. The home has a really nice, warm feeling to it.

They work together as a team and demonstrate cooperation and flexibility to a high degree.

This home had drastically improved over the year. Care team are amazing, caring and have good communication and connection with residents and others. Now they have an administrator in place to help the manager. Things seem to be running more smoothly. The domestic team has improved and there is always help on hand.

I have visited Sowerby House a number of times over the years and I am now more confident in my loved ones being there. The new manager has made tremendous improvements which are evident throughout. The staff no longer look terrified of the management who are completely approachable and appear to address all concerns promptly. My aunt has never felt more at home and feels there is always something to do or somebody to talk to.

From the moment she arrived, she was treated with care and respect. Her physical needs were met, and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. I cannot thank the team at Sowerby House enough for everything they did for my mum; they are caring and compassionate.

My mother was very ill during the spring/summer of 2023. We were discussing end-of-life care. She needed regular attention help, support, care, feeding etc. All the staff from the most junior to manager cared for my mother with dignity, love and care. They couldn't do enough for her and I attribute her getting through this to the care she received at Sowerby House.

Sowerby House care home is a special home. They have been looking after my mum for 4 years and their care for her is wonderful. Visiting her can be a bit daunting - you can never tell what Mum's mood is going to be. The staff always greet me with big smiles and time for a chat which puts me at ease. They are caring for the family members as well as the residents.

Living as far away as we do, we are unable to visit Mum as often as we would like, but knowing how comfortable and well-cared for she is, makes it much easier for us between visits.

Mum moved into a small 'temporary' room for a trial. Mum has never looked back. 'I love being in my little room'. What more can we, as a family, ask for? The care team at Sowerby House is second to none. It really is a team, from the manager to the gardener. Absolutely superb. As Mum's Alzheimer's has progressed, she still gets the best care and attention. My partner and I visit most days and have never witnessed anything other than the best care, not just to Mum, but to all residents. Everything about the care given at Sowerby House must be celebrated. Thank you everyone.

My great-aunt resided within Sowerby House. Myself and other family members were treated with respect, and my aunt always commented that the staff were kind, caring and attentive to her needs. All activities are very enjoyable. Sowerby House has a fantastic team, and the ongoing improvements are noted by all relatives, and this is a credit to the new management.
