Wordsworth House is situated about half a mile from Newcastle city centre in a pleasant suburb.

The home has good public transport links and is close to Newcastle central station.

Visitors are given a warm and welcoming reception, with a smile and a cup of tea or coffee.

The needs of residents are very quickly assessed in relation to where they want to be and the people they need to talk to. The team are always smiling and they interact with residents in a warm, friendly and loving manner. They are genuinely interested in finding out about their past experiences, their likes and dislikes, and so on.

It’s important to the home to ensure their residents are empowered and given as many choices as possible. They have a very full activities programme which includes a bridge club, art classes, animal therapy, and much more. Residents are encouraged to socialise in the true sense of the word.

Osborne Road is a trendy area nearby, with nice shops, bars and cafes, which residents often walk up to, to have a cup of tea, a cream cake and a natter. The community around Osborne Road know the residents and interact well with them.

Wordsworth House is very much part of the local community and they have strong links with schools and church groups. Some local businesses go to the home so that residents who aren’t able to leave the home can do some shopping.

Residents are also involved in the running of the home, helping setting tables for meals and doing many other activities.

Mum has been at Wordsworth House for four weeks. There is a marked improvement in her demeanour since arriving here form a protracted stay in hospital. She chooses to be in the resident's lounge rather than in her room. Her eyes are open and she smiles at people. She has told me that the staff are nice
on several occasions. She has been encouraged to be present at the activity sessions even though her dementia means that she can't join in. She still can't walk but the staff are encouraging her to try and are being proactive about involving them. The atmosphere in the home is joyful.

My mum has been a resident of Wordsworth House for two and a half years. The staff are always very welcoming and friendly and there is always something going on - entertainment, activities. Staff make sure that she takes part in all activity. Everyone from the manager to the care and domestic staff
is very caring. The Management and Staff are very approachable and have handled any matters I have raised with due care and attention.

I was very anxious about the dramatic change of lifestyle my fiercely independent and free-spirited mother faced when moving to Wordsworth House. The management and staff could not have been kinder and more understanding. They built relationships with both of us very quickly, they genuinely understood
and cared about my mum and she enjoyed their company too.
She was encouraged to make her room feel as much like home as possible, meet with other residents and join in the daily activities. For the first time in many, many months, I felt like I could relax, knowing my mum was being well cared for and starting to enjoy making new friends.
Sadly, my mum's stay at Wordsworth was relatively short, she died in October 2019. The nursing staff at Wordsworth House were wonderful, attentive and supportive, always ensuring the right level of care for her unstable condition.
The management and staff at Wordsworth House genuinely care, not only about their residents but their friends and family too.

I moved into Wordsworth Home 7 years ago, after several short respite stays. I have Multiple Sclerosis and when I was unable to stand/weight bear/transfer I could no longer manage to live in my own home, even with lots of help from my husband. Staff here are very friendly and caring, very understanding
of my problems and difficulties and do so much to support me and help me to cope with the situation I am now in. I am so grateful to the excellent carers.

It has improved significantly since coming under special measures and new managers appointed. Both the recent managers have worked hard, much-needed equipment has been provided and is much appreciated. There is a more welcoming and positive atmosphere. Where I have ticked 'satisfactory' I mean, that
an acceptable level has been reached, with scope (and the promise) of further improvement. Regular staff are skilled and show empathy. They need more permanent carers, however, all staff (including cleaners) are pleasant and helpful. I cannot comment on value for money. We pay the full fees and find them demanding I'm afraid.

Despite repeated discussions, the diet and quality of food remain poor. The kitchen staff/chef do not seem to understand basic elderly nutrition. I wish they could have training.

I have found the staff caring and diligent under sometimes trying circumstances.
Cooking for older people can also be a challenge as they have established tastes and some are necessary salt-free or have allergies so compliments to the chefs and cooked who met these demands 24/7. (This includes the
hairdressing salon with gentle, considerate staff).
