Willowdene has a lovely, inviting feel to it. The staff are warm and welcoming, they along with the manager were very supportive and helpful during a daunting decision to place our loved one in their care for respite. It is very apparent that the team care deeply for their residents.
Despite being
busy, the team were always on hand to offer support or assistance. We will return for any future respite needs.

Staff are lovely and do their best but so short staffed.
Residents as a result of this are left unsupervised.
Poor cleaning standards, especially on a weekend.
Resident's personal hygiene/care is sporadic.
Not aesthetically pleasing. Little stimulation for residents.
Reply from Christopher Hogan-Hind, Manager at Willowdene Care Home

The staff are always so friendly and caring towards not just the residents but also the families and friends. We have had my grandma in 1 other home before moving here, since she moved she has become her chatty self again, she's eating and drinking properly (when required the staff are always happy
to assist her), she is engaging in the activities. My grandma is so well cared for now she calls it her forever home and this makes us so happy as a family. I would highly recommend putting family members here.

Willowdene is a family environment, staff are extremely friendly, caring and genuine in their approach to residents and their families. The atmosphere in the home is always warm and happy. My mother is being well cared for by all the staff regardless of their role in the home. They take time to engage
with Mam, often sit and speak with her so she does not feel isolated, at 96 years young that is important to us as a family.

My mam is in good, safe hands. We feel as though all staff are approachable and deal with any queries honestly and with Mam's best interests at heart. Since the manager returned, changes that have been implemented have been positive. I'm pleased he's back. Activities are going from strength to strength
and all residents are thought out with regards to participation.

Since moving my mother into Willowdene I have found the staff including the domestic staff to be very cheerful, friendly and very helpful with any queries or concerns that I may have. The staff make sure all the residents not just my mother are catered for and treated with respect, even when a resident
is sometimes being difficult. They provide lots of activities so residents may join in if they wish to, which I feel is essential to keep them active and their morale up so they don't feel they have been forgotten. I have no reservations that my mother is being treated and cared for in the best possible way by all staff.

Staff and management are always ready to meet your needs and very approachable.
Activities are good, plenty to do on a daily basis. On a negative side, housekeeping could be improved (empty bins in the room) and laundry facilities (lost clothing).
For people who request to stay in their room, due
to mobility issues, carers could leave the TV or radio on and also drink and snack out if the patient's relatives have left snacks and drinks in the room on a morning.

My mother entered the Willowdene Care Home in November. She felt at home straight away. The staff were kind and understanding. We were impressed at the way her needs were cared for. We also noted that my mother has responded to her care. In that she has become more animated, she smiles a lot more and
has quickly become used to her new environment.

We are very happy with the care that Mum is receiving at Willowdene. The staff are exceptionally kind and patient with her, which has helped her to adjust well to the move. I visited my great uncle who resides at Willowdene Care Home. I was extremely impressed by the care he was receiving. The staff were totally engaged and had excellent and nurturing relationships with the residents. It was clear the care home is "well-led" you could tell that the staff were on board
with the values of the establishment. I witnessed residents being treated with respect and dignity.

Current Review Score: 8.7 (8.671)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.7 (8.671) out of 10 for Willowdene Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.494 for Willowdene Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (60 Excellents x 5) + (11 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (5 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 83 Ratings = 4.494
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.177 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Willowdene Care Home is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 52 registered maximum number of service users is 10.4. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.4 = 0.577
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
