The carers in this home are so lovely with all the residents and very committed. All the staff are lovely and friendly, cleaners, kitchen staff, the lot.
Sadly, the cleanliness has deteriorated in recent months, not due to cleaners but staff cuts and cheap products.
The activities with residents are
excellent. They are always doing things and they all have loads of fun.
Reply from The Manager, Manager at Willowdene Care Home

I am very sorry to hear that you are dissatisfied with the standard of cleanliness in the home. I am always available to discuss any concerns you may have. We have recently changed to a new set of cleaning products, which I hope you will find make a difference.

My husband has been a resident at Willowdene since June 2010. During that time I feel that he has received a high level of care, addressing his personal needs at all times.
From my point of view, the staff achieve a family atmosphere, showing concern for myself as well as my husband. The genuine, caring
nature of the staff has ensured my husband has experienced a calm and comfortable quality of life.

My personal feelings towards the home are it's very clean, the carers are second to none they work very hard to please all residents and relatives. The entertainment co-ordinators are fantastic loving, caring and brilliant ar what they do. All the staff are excellent.

From management right through to domestic staff each person has assisted not only my husband but also the whole family adjust to his placement at Willowdene. Special mention for nursing and all care support team for the excellent quality of care they provide. Activities are well varied and action is
taken to include as many residents as possible. Above outweighs the property as some upgrading/modernisation is needed but our priority is quality of care which team here excel at.

My mother was admitted to Willowdene in September 2013. I visit my mother on a regular basis and my father visits every day. A good home is just that, a 'home' and it is the care provided by staff which turns an institution into a home. The staff at Willowdene are incredible and I do not use that word
loosely. The key staff have been consistent and this is because they have a vocation for the work they do and are truly caring. They treat my mother with the dignity and respect that she would expect, the way a family member would expect and they do it whether they are aware that people are watching or not - yes I have sneaked around a fair bit. I cannot recommend this care home highly enough for what is the hardest decision many will ever have to take. The heart of Willowdene lies with the nursing staff and carers who are very special people and give the reassurance that when you are leaving you are leaving your most precious loved one in careful hands.

My wife was admitted to Willowdene Care Home in September 2013. I visit Willowdene daily and see at first hand the excellent job being done by nurses, carers and all staff alike. When caring for dementia patients, staff quite often have to deal with challenging and trying situations, and they handle
these with commendable patience, showing dignity and respect for the individual.
The staff are friendly, communicative and diligent in their respective roles and family members/friends are always welcomed into the home. My wife is always clean and well dressed when I visit and the staff do a fantastic job in focusing on the individual needs of residents. They are always happy to help in any way they can and engage well with both residents and their families. The new manager is extremely approachable and ensures that the home is run like clockwork and that everyone is aware of their duties of care. I have recommended Willowdene to a number of people and will continue to do so.

The staff in this care home are really good, and clearly empowered by their manager who is just so enthusiastic about making this a real 'home' for the residents most of whom appear to have quite severe dementia and mental health conditions. On entering the home there is a really good atmosphere with
a nice 'buzz' as staff (always seem like a very good ratio to residents) are sitting talking or interacting with residents in whatever is appropriate to the individual. The building is 20 years old but despite this is very clean and homely, and unlike other care homes experienced during visits there is no lingering smell of incontinence!!
Some of the clientele (including my mother-in-law) present with very challenging behaviour a lot of the time, but the staff seem to cope with this admirably and I understand there has been a great deal of investement in staff training by the current manager. The staff are really nice and I would recommend this home for anyone with dementia.

Current Review Score: 8.7 (8.671)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.7 (8.671) out of 10 for Willowdene Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.494 for Willowdene Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (60 Excellents x 5) + (11 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (5 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 83 Ratings = 4.494
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.177 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Willowdene Care Home is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 52 registered maximum number of service users is 10.4. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.4 = 0.577
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
