My mam moved into Sycamore in January this year after being assessed as needing 24 hour nursing care due to a mixed dementia diagnosis. After the initial meeting to determine acceptance I have found all the staff to be friendly and professional. The rooms are adequate, choice of food is good and the residents are well cared for. They let me know immediately if there have been any incidents- no matter how minor.
We're really pleased to hear that your mam has settled into Sycamore since moving in and that your initial experience, from assessment through to admission, was positive. It's lovely to know that you've found our team to be friendly and professional, and that you feel reassured by the standard of...
I feel that my mam receives very good care, the staff are very approachable and friendly, they call if there are any issues.
Thank you so much for your kind words. We are delighted to hear that you feel your mam receives very good care. Our team takes great pride in being approachable, friendly, and keeping families informed, so it means a lot to know this has been your experience. Please be assured we will continue to support your mam with the same high level of care and communication.
My relative has been here a few weeks now and the care and attention she has received is absolutely incredible they let you know what is going on how she is doing . The staff are absolutely wonderful from nurses carers and the cleaners I've never been so happy to see a home so well run I'm very happy to have put my mum in here
Thank you so much for your kind and heartfelt feedback. It truly means a great deal to us.
We are delighted to hear how happy you are with the care and attention your mum has received, and that you feel well informed and reassured about how she is doing. Our team work incredibly hard to provide...
Making the decision to place dad into care was the hardest decision we have ever had to make as a family. From the very beginning, Joanne and all the wonderful staff in the Cottage, along with Nicola and the amazing team on the Hawthorne Unit, made that difficult transition so much more bearable through their kindness, understanding, and compassion. We can't thank the staff enough for the outstanding care, patience, and dignity shown to our dad. Knowing he is in such safe and caring hands has given us real peace of mind. We are truly grateful for everything you do and would wholeheartedly recommend the Hawthorne Unit to other families facing the same difficult decision.
Thank you so much for sharing such a heartfelt message. We know how incredibly difficult that decision must have been for you as a family, and it truly means a great deal to hear that Joanne, Nicola, and the teams in the Cottage and on the Hawthorne Unit were able to support you with such kindness,...
My mother needed someone to look after her after her last home refused to have her back after a serious medical condition and long hospital visit. Sycamore talked to us, explained what care was needed, that they were willing to take on the care and would look after her to the best of ability.
What a job they did
She was nursed from bedridden to full mobility
She was stimulated with different media to keep her engaged
Her room was light and airy with private facilities
All areas were always clean and tidy
Food was always varied
Staff were polite/courteous and always caring
Senior staff were knowledgeable and always approachable
Ward managers had time to speak about any care issues
When it is time for loved ones to pass, to have staff at bedside shows their dedication
Thank you
Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a heartfelt and thoughtful review. We understand how incredibly difficult it is to entrust the care of a loved one to others, and we are truly honoured that you placed that trust in Sycamore. Knowing that your mother was supported with compassion,...
She had extremely complex medical needs but, management and staff worked tirelessly caring for her and to request additional help and support be put in place for both our mother and the family.
Unfortunately, she deteriorated further over a very short period and passed away in January 2025.
The care centre itself is modern and scrupulously clean and the rooms for residents are spacious and very well equipped.
Activities and entertainment are offered regularly and although encouraged to do so, our mother wouldn't always engage with staff or other residents.
Dietary requirements were also difficult but, we discussed this with the staff and her needs were met.
We would definitely recommend Sycamore Care Centre, Boldon, to anybody looking for placement of their loved one and would like to thank you all once again, for the care and compassion shown when our beloved mother passed.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your heartfelt experience with us. We are truly sorry for your loss and understand how difficult it must have been to watch your mother go through such a challenging time. Please know that our team at Sycamore Care Centre Boldon genuinely cared for...
My experience at Sycamore Care Centre is wholly positive. The staff are wonderful in the caregiving of our family member. They phone us promptly with any health updates or concerns and general updates. My dad is happy and content and well fed, clean and tidy. The staff are very professional and always happy to chat with us when we visit with any questions.
Thank you so much for sharing your positive experience at Sycamore Care Centre. It's truly heartwarming to hear how well your dad is being cared for and that the staff is consistently providing such excellent support. It sounds like they go above and beyond to keep you informed and ensure your...
My father was admitted a few months ago. The staff realised quickly that he would be better suited in a different unit. They moved him as soon as a space became available. This suited him and although it has taken time to settle he is comfortable and the staff are fantastic with him even on his most grumpy days. The activities provided daily are great and the activities coordinator makes a point of seeking him out to make sure he joins in. The rooms are fully equipped and personal items are encouraged. Can't fault them. They do their best for the residents.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a lovely review. It sounds like your father is in a supportive environment that truly cares about his well-being. It's wonderful to hear that the staff are attentive and able to recognise what he needs. Finding the right fit can make such a difference, and...
Mum needed 24-hour care due to the onset of dementia. We chose Sycamore as when we went to look around for a suitable care home this one was so warm and friendly with promises of activities for the residents, outings etc. The reality was slightly different, the staff for the most part are lovely and caring and do their best to cope with and look after several residents all with different levels of care. I haven't seen many activities and all I tend to see is residents sitting around on dining chairs all day. The food that I have seen seems to be an unappetising ' beans with everything' menu. The night shift seemed to scare my mother a bit and concern was raised by my sister-in-law. Mum still has not settled properly but I'm hoping she will given time. Overall it's not a bad place, the staff are brilliant for the most part. I'd say mum is well looked after but not cared for.
Thank you for the review. Understandably as your mum had only been with us for a few weeks when this was written we know this can be an emotive time. The warmth and friendliness you first noted have not changed. Our staff always try their best to provide good quality care. Meals are made on-site...
I am overwhelmed and incredibly grateful for the care my auntie has received. The staff went above and beyond, she was treated with respect and dignity. She was not just a resident, the lodge is like a warm and welcoming family home. Nothing was too much trouble and I felt that she was safe and in good hands. Her room was spotless on a daily basis and the staff had so much time for her and also for us as a family. She was settled and very content, we could not have asked for more and I will forever be thankful.
Thank you very much, we are very overwhelmed by the kindness and appreciation in your review. It was our pleasure to care for your loved one at the Lodge. We send our condolences to you and your family and if there is every anything we can do, we are here for you.
We can't fault the staff, they do their very best and they were appalled as the friends and family were/are at the treatment of a recent resident by management.
Going into care you would expect that needs are complex and at times challenging. The resident had issues regarding mental health and lost his wife whilst he was there for a total of four weeks. In that time the home did nothing to support him but thought it fit to hand him his notice directly after telling him his wife had died.
His family moved him and he is so happy in his new home. No outbursts, no issues. That says a lot.
Hello, many thanks for taking the time to write a review. We are sorry that you feel the room that you personally viewed and then chose, to be in need of updating. The building your father was in is an original Victorian building, and we have tried to keep the beautiful features and character that...
Staff could not have been more friendlier or helpful, nothing was a bother or too much trouble. They promptly helped or fulfilled any requests, they were always available to help and answer our queries or questions.
Unfortunately, Dad was only here for 12 days but died peacefully in their good hands. We highly recommended Sycamore Care Centre, as within a very short time the staff earned our trust and respect, therefore we are so grateful to them for their love and care they gave Dad in his last days and the family at the time of our sad loss.
My mother is well cared for and feels safe. The staff treat her with dignity, at the same time ensuring that her needs are met.
Thank you, Clive, for your lovely comments. Your compliment is what drives the staff to ensure they are doing their best at making a difference. It certainly makes a difference to the staff, knowing their hard work makes a difference. I will pass your comments on to the staff.
I have only just recently moved both my parents to Sycamore Care Home in Nookside, Grindon. My parents have very different needs, but the staff have gone the extra mile to keep my parents together, which is of great comfort to them and the family. I cannot express the relief, knowing that they are both being looked after in such a caring way, especially as my mum needs 24-hour nursing care. Everyone at the home is so friendly, happy and hard working. My father was adamant that he didn’t want to go into care as he was very independent until a short while ago, and everyone who knows him can’t believe how quickly he settled and how happy he is and the praise he has for everyone at the home. He’s even joined in on activities full of praise for the staff. I can’t thank the staff enough for their support and for looking after my parents with genuine affection; it is such a comfort. The staff are all stars and worth their weight in gold.
Hi Jacqueline, thank you for taking the time to write such lovely comments. We are equally happy that Mam and Dad are able to be together and that they have both settled in well and are building relationships with the staff. It is always difficult making the decision to move into 24-hour care;...
She had excellent care, and we highly valued the compassion and attention of the staff. This was especially important to us in her second stay, in the time before and immediately after her death.
Her time in Sycamore is when we most felt that her care was person-centred, and she was treated as a human being with a rich life rather than a transient patient. She loved to banter with the staff, and it was clear to us the genuine affection that they gave back to her. This made a big difference to her last few months of her life and gave us, as her family, peace of mind that she was not just safe but valued and looked after as a person.
This care and compassion across her stay were shown by all the team at Sycamore, from the most senior members of staff down to some very young staff, and their kindness to the family when she died was so appreciated.
I appreciate you taking the time to complete this review given the current circumstances.
Our philosophy of care is to ensure that our care is carried out with dignity and compassion and each resident is treated as an individual in a...
Very welcoming and open.
Not had any issues at all from the first day my mother moved there.
Excellent.
Thank you for the kind words and for taking the time to pass such comments and review the care that mam is receiving. I am happy you choose Sycamore and that you are overall happy with the care and support mam is receiving. We take pride in the care that we deliver, and it is certainly appreciated...
Staff are very approachable, listen to needs and address issues as they occur. They show privacy and dignity with residents in their care.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a response identifying your overall experience and complimenting our standards of care. We strive to maintain a high standard within our care home, and it is certainly nice to see this being noticed.
Having a domestic as an extra member of staff is not sufficient, multiple incidents with staff which could have been prevented if they listened to the family of the resident.
After speaking to management it was clear they were not interested and when we asked for documentation about his care including what he has eaten, incident reports, and staff levels when there was an incident this was refused even though we have a right to this, felt as though they were trying to hide something.
We are sorry that you have felt you have to post this negative review given the high level of professional input your relative received in the 48 hours that they were with us. We responded to the emergency situation, calling in the relevant external specialist Psychiatric professionals and social...
The care the staff have shown to my dad, getting him settled and managing his complex needs is amazing. I can't believe that have managed to support him in socialising and being more active. Thank you.
Hi Sheryl, thank you for taking the time to write this lovely review. We are really happy that your dad has settled in, and you are positively recognising such changes in him and that he has settled into his new surroundings.
Mum has been really welcomed into the home, and as a family, we have been able to make this her new home. She is being well cared for with dignity and respect. After lockdown, it is lovely to see her interacting with others and taking part in activities. Knowing Mum is safe and being looked after means I can rest. I highly recommend Sycamore Care Centre.
Thank you for your kind words; I am so glad to know that you are very happy with our service and that you are happy with mams care. I will pass your kind words over to the staff.
