Cartmel Grange Nursing Home offers a professional care team who are highly skilled to meet a wide range of needs within a magnificent building that has been purposely converted to support person centred, skilled care and a versatile lifestyle.

The home is surrounded with beautiful views on the Southern tip of the Cartmel peninsula between the mountains and the sea. The prize winning gardens to the front of the home create a tranquil and peaceful environment for residents.

The accommodation is offered in single rooms across three floors accessible via a passenger lift. All rooms are fitted with a call bell, television point and ensuite. Individual phones may also be fitted into rooms.

The home boasts an extensive activity schedule, and there is a choice of five lounges at Cartmel Grange, giving residents plenty of choice and areas that are quiet for those who wish not to participate in activities.

My mum came to Cartmel Grange Nursing Home on the 5th November. Right from the start, the staff were wonderful. They were very supportive of both my mum and me. My mum has complex needs and is quite demanding but they are very kind and patient with her, bringing out the best in her character. The nursing
care is detailed and excellent. My mum was very poorly when she arrived (almost end of life) but she has already made significant improvements in both her physical and mental health over only three weeks and I am certain this is down to the care they have given her.
Dementia and mental health problems rob us of our parents before their time, but I have had better and more lovely conversations with my mum over the last three weeks than in the whole of the last three years. I know this is down to the staff making Mum feel as comfortable as possible under the circumstances.
It's extremely hard to work in any care home no matter what your role and it is very evident that all the staff I have met are hardworking and dedicated.

Indignities and lack of respect experienced here by my partner cannot adequately be described. With a few exceptions, staff "led" by a disinterested management, were impatient and patronising with a total lack of compassion. My partner has vascular dementia; only after six months and four attempts did
a "care plan" not say "he has no memory problem". Amongst many other failures included; little communication between staff; poor health care, dirty clothing, residents not dressed in their own clothes, staff with an inadequate command of English, inadequate telephone systems and relatives deemed a nuisance (I overheard myself being sworn about).

Mam was a resident at Cartmel Grange for a short spell from December 2020 through to her death in April 2021. I can't speak highly enough of the staff at the home. Even amid the complications of Covid restrictions and lockdowns, my sister and I were given amazing support and it's testament to the staff
there that Mam asked if some of them would be present with her when the priest arrived for her confession and his blessing. They were compassionate, understanding, kind, and positive throughout - as the day shift ended, there would be a steady stream of gentle knocks on the door as staff came to say 'see you tomorrow'. The custom of the guard of honour as Mam was leaving for the final time was respectful and heartfelt. Thank you for treating her with respect and dignity and genuine care in her time with you.

Mum suffered from dementia and was a resident at Cartmel Grange for a little over 12 months, until April 2020. I have only praise for everything and everyone involved in her care and l can thoroughly recommend this home for yourself or your loved one.

All the staff here are so kind and caring, not only to my husband but also to all members of our family and the friends who have transported me here.
My husband has only been here a week and it is hard to cope with lots of new faces, changes in medication and also being apart after nearly 54 years
together. All the staff are doing their best to make my husband more comfortable and find out his preferences, and to treat him with respect and dignity. If I needed care, I would be happy to come here myself.

My mum has vascular dementia and has been living in Cartmel Grange Nursing Home since April 2016. During that time her happiness and quality of life has improved considerably. Her emotions and language remain intact, and she frequently expresses how fortunate she feels and how lovely everyone is. Without
exception, the staff are hardworking, professional and above all, kind, with great sensitivity regarding the individuality and dignity of those in their care. Mum will be 90 in March, and before coming to live here, she was unhappy - the care she has received from these wonderful people has enhanced her life.

My dad has been in Cartmel Grange for over three years now. He is an intelligent man who, at nearly 95yrs old, and despite his dementia, is aware of his physical limitations and often tells me how lucky he is to live in such a lovely place. The staff are all so good to him, taking the time to chat and
sort him out if he needs anything. He is always clean and tidy and they take great care to ask him for his preferences on food, entertainment and daily routines. The staff are well trained and observant of each individual and I have often seen them going above and beyond their duties, helping him and other residents in day to day life. Dad knows most of his carers by name and regards them as his friends. He gets lots of hugs and laughs with them daily which is lovely to see. They have good wifi on-site and we talk most days using face to face via the internet which is a wonderful way to keep in touch, keep him company and check on him. The staff are very used to hearing another voice in the room!

We are so grateful for the care my mum receives at Cartmel Grange. We feel very blessed she was able to come here. We have complete peace of mind at all times that she is being loveling cared for. Visiting dad today. He’s been in a few care homes but nothing tops this one. He’s settled so well! Staff are wonderful I watch them tend to other users and they were just lovely. Care, respect, dignity and just lovely! This home is a godsend!

I would like to thank the wonderful staff at Cartmel Grange for the outstanding care that they gave to my dad during his short stay with them.
There is a very warm and loving culture that runs through everybody who works there and this shines through in everything they do.
During the last few days
of my dad’s life, they were always there to give us the support we needed. His nursing care was excellent and everyone treated him with such respect and dignity. They couldn’t have done any more for us as a family. They kept us going with hugs, tea and biscuits and meals.
Truly outstanding in all areas. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending this nursing home.

My husband has been a resident since April 2016. He had need of 24-hour medical care and was diagnosed with vascular dementia. In all this time he has received excellent care, both medically and in all ways to do with dementia, treated with kindness, understanding and dignity. Lots of fun and laughter
and their kindness to me and my family will not be forgotten. All the staff, managers, carers, cooks, cleaners, laundry and gardeners - all smile and laugh. In all this time I have never heard a harsh word. My husband is a much-loved family man and we are all happy.

Our Mum was in the care of Cartmel Grange for nearly four years. I can say that the care and attention she got was exemplary. My mum suffered a huge stroke and lost all mobility and language, she had to be fed, lifted, washed etc. All the staff throughout the organisation from Kitchen, Care, and Entertainment
showed her the utmost compassion and care. They engaged with her and often raised a smile from her. As she was coming to the end of life they kept her comfortable and peaceful.
I would not hesitate to recommend this home to anyone who wanted their loved ones cared for.

Shelly Ralph

Job Title: Registered Manager Joined: 2024

Shelly is a registered nurse who qualified in 2011. Shelly also has a level 5 diploma in leadership for health and social care, children and young people's services. England Adults' Advanced Practice. Shelly has previously worked in both the NHS and the social care sector. Her background is in rehabilitation and step-up/step-down nursing. Shelly has a background in working in large care homes with people with a variety of health conditions and needs. Shelly is currently the registered manager at Cartmel Grange, which is a registered nursing home covering 73 bedrooms over 3 floors. Before joining Cartmel Grange in 2024, in 2021, she managed one of our sister care homes in Appleby. Shelly is very passionate about older adult care and those living with dementia.


Shelly is very approachable, has great organising skills, has a "get the job done" attitude, and is friendly to all residents and family members, with a listening ear for all staff and visitors.
Shelly's duties will be the overall management of Cartmel Grange.

Dana Sirghie

Job Title: Deputy Manager Joined: 2014

Dana is a Registered General Nurse, working at Cartmel Grange since 2014. Previously a Unit Manager on our Dementia unit. Her role is to ensure that the quality standards are adhered to by way of Audits, including Medication. Ensures the fulfilment of Falls Tracker, Dependency Tool, Restrictive Measures, DOLs and Safeguarding.


Dana completes residents' Pre-Admission Assessments. Meeting with GPs, Local Authorities, Social Workers, CQC and other Professionals.
Overseeing that the units are supervised and managed well. Carrying out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision, and will be required to demonstrate skills and supervise both qualified and unqualified staff. Giving support to nurses during any unit incidents.
Dana is responsible for the care home during Shelly's absence.

Adam Godbold

Job Title: Facilities Manager Joined: 2024

Adam is the Facilities Manager who supports the strategy of the company by managing its building and other facilities. Managing a team of maintenance staff, painters & decorators. The team must inspect, maintain and repair the building's electrical, plumbing or mechanical systems, to ensure an optimal work environment for the residents and company staff. Overall, they ensure that the facilities and services provide adequate support for the staff and the wider physical areas of the company, including the parking area, security and general cleaning of the site.

Sue Pattinson

Job Title: Head of Housekeeping Joined: 1995

Sue has been at Cartmel Grange for over 30 years, joining the company as a carer, then senior carer, before joining the domestic team in 2004. Now Head of Housekeeping. Managing a team of domestics who facilitate in high standard of hygiene in all areas of cleaning in the care home and laundry. Making it a safe environment for all residents and staff in the home. Sue ensures that rooms are sanitised following infections to minimise the risk of cross infection. Laundry staff are responsible to ensure there is always a supply of clean clothing and linen available. Sue trains new domestic inductions and any refresh training, for the staff that need, updating on cleaning systems. Sue oversees the regular supervision within her department. Also, regular weekly and monthly audits within her department, for the 73-bedroom care home at Cartmel Grange. All staff work on a rota, and Sue oversees domestic staff working allocation on a weekly basis. Also part of her role Sue places all orders for consumables needed for housekeeping and catering cleaning needs.

Bincy George

Job Title: Unit Manager Arnside Joined: 2022

Bincy is the Unit Manager of the Arnside Dementia unit. She is a senior experienced nurse. Completed her nursing in 2002. Has ICU experience in India. Moved to Saudi 2005-2017. Started to work in the UK at Cartmel Grange in 2022. Really enjoying working in the Dementia unit, offering a smiling face and lots of reassurance and compassion to residents.

Suzanne has been in care for over 30 years. Experienced in Elderly Care & Dementia. Using her experience of care, Suzanne can give care staff full support to maintain continuity of residents' daily care. Overseas, all areas of residents' well-being, supporting families from admission to the end-of-life. Completes all care audits. Supports the training coordinator when needed with manual handling and supervisions. To ensure that all shifts are covered with the correct amount of carers on each floor. Suzanne has lots of experience and shares her communication skills, knowledge and team working skills with her colleagues to improve the dignity-person-centred care and quality of care we deliver.

Rachel Nicholson

Job Title: Office Manager Joined: 2014

Administration team. The administration team, led by Rachel and supported by Julie (Julie covers the office duties during Rachel's holidays/absences), Rachel first came to Cartmel Grange in 2014 as a care assistant during the following 4 years became a care coordinator. Short maternity break returned to us in 2019 as a receptionist, then worked up to Office Manager. Rachel provides invaluable support to Shelly and all the staff in the care home. She is responsible for all the residents' monies at the home. Staff off duty rota, holidays and absences. The admin team also deal with everything 'Front of House' such as phone calls, meet and greet and ensuring people are directed to the right place/people. Arranging visitors and booking appointments such as hairdressing & chiropody. Making sure that residents' mail and newspapers reach the residents in a timely manner.

Heather has worked at Catmel Grange care home from 1995 for over 20 years as a care assistant. Changing to her current role over 10 years ago as a Training coordinator and is in charge of all the staff training needs. This includes organising the homes' monthly training days, distance learning and sourcing training for staff needs and individual personal development. As a very experienced carer, she is also responsible for new staff inductions, then monitoring standards by undertaking the carers supervisions.

Gaynor joined our team in early 2025. Gaynor is a local girl from Morecambe over 40 years experience from residential care to private schools. Started her career in care and pre-nursing college. An opportunity came available in the catering department so Gaynor then went to commence her training at Catering college in 1985. Started at Cartmel Grange as Catering Manager. 'Loves to cook up a storm' an all-rounder in the kitchen she would call herself a bit of a 'Rock Chic'
Gaynor and her team provide safe and hygienic preparation of nutritional and appetising meals. Food standard agency 2025 awarded Cartmel Grange Food Hygiene 5* Food Rating.
All food is freshly cooked on the premises and seasonal menus are planned to ensure you have a choice of well-balanced varied meals.
