Thank you to the staff for looking after and caring for my wife during her stay at La Cura House. I was always welcomed with a friendly smile and politeness and updated about my wife's condition. I am certain she appreciated the magnificent care and attention you all gave her. Highly recommended care home.

The staff at La Cura House were very understanding regarding my mum's condition and why she had to be placed in a home. The Manager, Deputy Manager and the Administrator all helped me to navigate the dos and don'ts of having a family member in care.

My dad was only in the care home for a short period before he passed. The only unfortunate thing was because of covid we were unable to visit him. The Manager and her staff were always helpful and caring to my dad and always happy to give us feedback on how he was progressing. Thank you to all your staff.

Mum went to La Cura in October 2021, initially for four weeks respite followed by permanent care. As a family, we were dreading this as Mum didn't want to give up her independant living. Mum's dementia meant we could no longer keep her safe at home so we were anxious when the day came for handing Mum over to strangers. After a few days Mum settled in well and we were relieved that she was safe and being cared for by a team of staff who were lead by a very experienced manager. Virus restrictions meant that family visiting was restricted but pod visits were available to us too. Mum had a small family celebration for her 90th birthday in the pod for which I will always remember and cherish as a joyous day. Thank you for making this possible! Mum's room was always clean and her appearance tidy. Mum enjoyed the food here and had a wee companion who she always sat with and walked the corridors with. Mum sadly passed away just before Christmas. Thank you team La Cura! for Mum's care.

My husband has been a resident in La Cura since May until August when he sadly passed away. The care ad compassion he received has been excellent in every way. He was suffering from dementia as well as quite a few underlying problems, but the staff were brilliant in dealing with him.

Can't provide ratings for all areas due to COVID restrictions.

I am quite satisfied with the care in the home. It can not be easy for the staff at times. I do believe they are trying their best to continue to modernise the home. Hope to see it soon. They built a pod, used it twice and then locked down again. They are doing their best for everyone. Can not ask for more in times like these.

When calling one day mid-December, I was pleasantly surprised when given a chance to book in and see my mother as a pod had been created. This was wonderful and unexpected news. It made Christmas all the more special to me, especially after the year we've had. I continue to ring regularly as I like to keep updated on how Mum is. The nurses and staff are always pleasant and friendly, they listen and are very understanding. The manager answered a recent call and we talked about how well the home has managed during this pandemic. My thanks go to all of them.

My mother is very happy in the home. It was her choice to go in January 2020. During lockdown all the staff and management have done a great job. Only wish could have done window visits as it's not the same talking on the phone or Ipad.

I find the staff approachable and very helpful. They have taken time to get to know Mum as an individual and respect her wishes. I would like to thank all staff who have cared for her, especially those who have taken the time to build a relationship with her above and beyond to offer her companionship as I can't be here just now because of the virus.

My mum is a resident and enjoys the home. All staff are good and we feel she is looked after well. My mum enjoys meals but would like more choice ie: lasagne, curry etc. We take in cereal as she doesn't like the ones offered. Hopefully, her room will be getting updated and have an ensuite. This was discussed when she moved in in January last year. We understand the delay with things caused by COVID. My mum has seven children and feels something needs to happen so she can get visits, not just from one nominated person. This is difficult for us all as we all work, hopefully, things will improve.

My mother is treated really well. She loves a laugh with the staff. She has her favourites which all the residents have, but they are all very nice. When we got in to see her it was a very nice atmosphere. Lovely residents who were very very nice to talk too. It's a very nice place to visit.

Tracy Wiggans
Tracy WiggansJob Title:ManagerJoined: 2017
Hi My name is Tracy Wiggans, I have been the manager here now at La Cura House for just over three years.

I was born and brought in Berwick upon Tweed and attended both Tweedmouth middle school and Berwick high school or now known as Berwick Academy.

On leaving school I went on to have three daughters and moved to Cornwall.

When my daughters were young I decided I wanted to care for others so went to work as a care assistant in a care home, then went on to looking after people who had to live with Huntington's disease. Whilst working with people with Huntington's disease this inspired me to want to care for people with mental health needs, so decided to complete my nurse training.

In 2007 I qualified as a registered mental health nurse and I completed various other training courses to support me in caring for people with mental health needs. On qualifying I worked for the NHS as a staff nurse, community psychiatric nurse and a charge nurse.

During my time with the NHS I worked with people who live with dementia and felt I could really make a difference in their lives so decided to leave the NHS and become the head of a dementia unit for a private company, I then became the deputy manager for the same company, the manager and myself along with a great team turned a failing home into a good rated home. Not long after we had succeeded in this I moved to another care home for the same company as the registered general manager.

In 2017 I decided I wanted to move back to my home town of Berwick Upon Tweed and it was fortunate that La Cura House care home, previously known by another name was needing a manager. Unfortunately the home was not in a good position and required a lot of TLC. However with the hard work and dedication we managed to make significant improvements in a short space in time moving it from a home which required improvement to a good home within a year.

We continue to make improvements and I am proud to say the changes that the current staffing team have made and the massive difference to the people we they care for lives.

We have developed a whole new team who have embraced some difficult changes, but changes that are so much for the better. Our home is filled with care and happiness and we will continue to strive to make improvements where needed so that residents continue to live in a happy home.

I have worked here for 12 years and during this time I have gained a NVQ Level 3 in Business & Administration. I enjoy my work as no 2 days are the same. I also enjoy working with the staff, the interaction I have with the residents and meeting so many different people.

I look forward to the future working at La Cura House.

My name is Margaret Wilson. I work at La Cura House Care Home as Head Cook. I’ve been here a little over 3 years. I really enjoy my job and I love doing home baking, especially birthday cakes. It is great to watch the resident’s faces light up as we sing Happy Birthday to them. I enjoy popping out to see the residents and talking to them about their likes and dislikes.
