From the moment you walk through the front door you are met with a warm welcome and feel as if you are entering a 'home from home'. The rooms are individually tailored to each resident and filled with their own possessions. There are light and airy sitting rooms overlooking a walled garden and a conservatory.
The team is led by the new manager and she inspires her staff with her caring attitude and high standards.
Reply from Jackie Coulson, Home Manager at La Cura House

Review from Adrian (Son of Resident) published on 3 July 2017 Submitted via Postal Card • Report

The nursing care over the last 9 years has been excellent and consistent. It is a very hard thing to do, to nurse frail patients without injury or accident or infection over such a long period. I feel the Berwick Care Home is patient centred and this comes out in their attitude to working with relatives
and close family.
Reply from Jackie Coulson, Home Manager at La Cura House

Dear Adrian, Thank you for taking the time to complete this feedback. Your comments are valued and appreciated, I will ensure they are fed back to the team at Berwick care Home. It is extremely lovely to hear of yours and your loved ones positive experience of Berwick Care Home. Our aim is to ensure all residents receive a person-centred approach to their care and an important part of this is relatives, friends participation, in partnership with the Home. once again thank you, kind regards Jackie Coulson, Home Manager

My father is a resident and I am very happy with the care he receives. It is a time of changes for the home with new owners and now a new manager, but I feel the transition has been done with no issues for the residents and I look forward to seeing the new ideas that come with a new management and team
start to show. Pleased the home is in the midst of decoration as this did let it down.

Having already filled in and sent one of these cards, my opinion has not changed and 7 months from entering this home my husband still has not got a suitable chair to sit in despite being measured for one on 3/12/15. I am awaiting an appointment with the Regional Manager which was postponed on 27/1/16.
Reply from Frances Ponton, Home Manager at La Cura House

My mother in law moved into home in December suffering with dementia. Since deciding on the home we have had excellent service from all staff. Everything explained to us and being able to approach all staff with ease. Food and accommodation excellent. Also activities are very good every afternoon which
helps stimulate my mother in laws mind. Always carers available.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.393)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.393) out of 10 for La Cura House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.743 for La Cura House is calculated as follows: ( (82 Excellents x 5) + (19 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 105 Ratings = 4.743
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.65 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for La Cura House is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 12 = 0.75
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
