Overall Experience
Wonderful setting to be able to care for elderly relatives with needs related to dementia care. From August 2019 - February 2020, my mother-in-law was resident within Blaenos House. The clue is in the name, it is homely, friendly, welcoming and full of kindness. During this period, as a family we have been witness to moments of delight and sadness, all accompanied by the team at the house. My mother-in-law has had to contend with the damage to her mind by this savage disease but has been ably supported at all times by the team at the home. She has funded her own care here, and we have been privileged to witness the abilities of the team in coping with tremendous needs by the residents, but being able to organise themselves so that each resident is cared for.

There is also a great link with the local GP practice, who regularly review residents. There has also been a new manager in post from January 2020, who will continue to maintain standards. The home is very hygienic and always clean and tidy.

We found the home a friendly, caring environment. As our father was a Welsh speaker, it was important that staff communicated with him through the medium of Welsh. We greatly appreciated the care and kindness shown to him and us as a family during his last days.

Overall Experience
My mother was in Blaenos House Care & Nursing Home from March 2009 until her death in January 2018.
She had dementia which progressively got worse over the years, and in the last few years, she had to be fed.
She was also doubly incontinent.
During the whole nine years of her stay there, both the nursing and care home staff were so caring and attentive towards her.
The communication from them was excellent at all times.
I live in Leicestershire 170 mile from the care home, so I was only able to visit once a month.
Therefore the care that she received there was of great comfort to me and my family.
All records of her care were rigorously recorded, which I reviewed and signed at regular intervals.
This care home should be used as a blueprint for care homes throughout the country.

Maybe this review could be passed on to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care and the Welsh Health Secretary.

Overall Experience

My relative was admitted to Blaenos in July 2017 with complex needs. The home is managed most efficiently with guidance and supervision provided to all staff who work well within a team. Residents are treated with dignity. Care plans are discussed with the family. Communication is excellent. The building is clean and is currently being refurbished to a high standard, providing a comfortable environment for everyone. I have received excellent support and reassurance from the manager in a professional manner. The care delivered is of a high standard.

Having worked for several years in similar roles, my knowledge and experience helps to guide families through what can be a very difficult time in their lives. I’m very passionate about nursing and always strive to provide exceptional standards of care in the safest of environments.

The best part of my role is seeing the positive impact I have on residents’ daily lives and seeing them smile and enjoying themselves gives me great job satisfaction. I provide different activities every day for the residents to get involved with and can often be heard leading the communal singing heartily accompanied by the residents who thoroughly enjoy reminiscing and singing the songs of yesteryear.

Gavin Job Title Maintenance Manager

For the past 17 months, I've poured my heart into this role, cherishing every moment I spend with our residents.

They've become like family to me, and I'll do whatever it takes to brighten their days and make a real difference in their lives.

My approach is simple: treat others with the same care and understanding I would want for my loved ones, especially as they grow older. It's all about patience, kindness, and empathy. Ultimately, my goal is to be a source of comfort and joy, enriching the lives of our residents in every way possible. Their well-being is my top priority, and I'm honoured to play a part in enhancing their quality of life, one day at a time.

I'm proud to be part of our Blaenos House Nursing Home team. Although I came into the care industry later in my career, I definitely feel I’ve now found my niche and bring a wealth of experience to ensure all runs smoothly in the home for our residents. It's a privilege to contribute to creating a welcoming and supportive environment for our residents and their families.
