Brynwood is an amazing facility with great staff who are always caring and willing to go the extra mile. The home is always really clean and tidy and they are always trying to find new things to keep the residents entertained. Couldn't wish for a better place.

Generally positive, some difficulties with communication regarding what is happening/changes in presentation or medical concerns. Lack of involvement in general care/decisions. Some issues around property (missing items). Some really lovely carers/nurses caring for Mam, but sometimes some do not even acknowledge us as family members. Mam does not seem to get much access to stimulation or activities specific to her needs.

Reply from Tracey Webb, Registered Manager at Brynmawr Care Village

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, as we're grateful for the feedback. Your Mam is a much-valued and longstanding member of the Brynmawr Care Village community (as are you, as a regular visitor). We would be happy to do this on a one-on-one basis if you feel able so that we can...

My wife has been a patient here for some nine years but during the last eighteen/twenty weeks, she has had a problem where she is scratching continually and her skin gets very raw and inflamed. She has had various creams and medicines applied and seen by many different doctors but sadly to no avail. Would you please consult a dermatologist to get to the bottom of this problem because nothing seems to be working at the moment?

Reply from Wayne Rees, Head of Region at Brynmawr Care Village

Thank you for completing the star ratings and we do appreciate the specific issue that is causing you concern. Obviously, it is not appropriate for us to give any more detail about that in a public forum. However, if you remain unsure of the latest situation regarding the dermatology referral or...

My review was very pleasant - all the questions I asked were answered. I was made very comfortable and put at ease. If I didn't understand, it was explained to me which was excellent.

I didn't feel I couldn't ask anything and didn't feel on edge. So I'm very happy and understand and feel happy that my dad is enjoying his life at Plasgeller. Thank you very much.

My mother has been a resident for almost a year now. She is very settled and is as happy as someone with dementia can be. She has been well looked after and staff are fabulous, despite staffing problems which see them running around most of the time. My mother is kept very clean and her clothes are laundered and her hair done which she loves. We are very happy with all aspects of her care.

Reply from Tracey Webb, Service Manager at Brynmawr Care Village

We are happy with the care our dad and husband is receiving at Plasgeller. Care staff are helpful and easy to approach and talk to regarding all aspects. Activity coordinators are friendly and has good interactions with the resident.
He seems his 'normal' self when visiting and there's no show of decline of the resident's illness since arriving at Plas Gellar.

Thank you.

Since we went into a meeting for families last month, someone told the carers what was said in the meeting and some of the carers haven't spoken to us since. They shouldn't be like that and getting away with it. Two of them were moved to Brynwood, they didn't like it and they are back in Granbury. They shouldn't dictate where they are going to work.

Reply from Wayne Rees, Head of Region at Brynmawr Care Village

Thank you for your feedback. We have since spoken, and the situation has been resolved. We completely agree with you that the needs of residents are the first priority.

Not family friendly, do not encourage visitors to bring children, nor do they offer visitors a drink. Visitors are not allowed to use the toilet.
In their own words "we have to take what we are given"; as far as care staff go. Residents are not encouraged to take part in their hardly there activities. Do not maintain regular updates with family. Hard to contact, always going to other parts of the home.

Allowed Mum to get severely constipated, don't ensure her hearing aids are used and make excuses when she removes them. Cover up their discrepancies such as allowing her to go weeks before her dentures were fixed.

Reply from Dawn Crandon, Site Manager at Brynmawr Care Village

Dear LM, Thank you for your feedback. In normal times, there are no restrictions on bringing children on visits. Toilet facilities are also available, and used by other visitors without difficulty. Meet the Team (1)

Ellen Smith
Ellen SmithJob Title:Home Manager

I am an experienced healthcare professional with over 20 years of experience supporting older people, committed to delivering high-quality, person-centred care. At Brynmawr Care Village, I lead with compassion and clarity, working closely with residents, families, and colleagues to ensure every individual remains at the centre of their care.

A standout moment in my career was supporting two young women following their dementia diagnoses. With consistent encouragement from myself and my team, they regained confidence, created a fundraising group, organised charity events, and even appeared on national television. Their journey is a reminder of how the right support can transform lives, an approach I bring to Brynmawr every day.

Kindness is at the core of my leadership style. For me, it means understanding each person’s story, respecting their wishes, and ensuring they feel valued and heard. This reflects in the culture I foster within Brynmawr, one where dignity, empathy, and individual strengths guide our work.

I also believe strongly in strengthening community connections. At Brynmawr, I actively develop partnerships with local clubs and schools, creating opportunities that enrich residents’ lives and strengthen the home’s ties within the community.

Outside of work, I volunteer at my local football club and enjoy spending time with my family, particularly relaxing at my caravan in West Wales.
