Brynmawr Care Village is an inclusive community which specialises in caring for those living with dementia. The site is located in the picturesque market town of Brynmawr and comprises of Plasgeller Care Home, Glanbury Care Home and Brynwood Care Home.

Residents are actively encouraged to participate in home life and communal spaces are lively and open. All residents of Brynmawr Care Village are supported to achieve their set goals, reach their maximum potential and above all; to live life as fully as possible.

The care village is warm and welcoming and staff receive specialist training to support resident needs. The care team is dedicated to offering the highest-standard of care possible to ensure residents health and wellbeing needs are met.

My mother has been a resident for almost a year now. She is very settled and is as happy as someone with dementia can be. She has been well looked after and staff are fabulous, despite staffing problems which see them running around most of the time. My mother is kept very clean and her clothes are
laundered and her hair done which she loves. We are very happy with all aspects of her care.

We are happy with the care our dad and husband is receiving at Plasgeller. Care staff are helpful and easy to approach and talk to regarding all aspects. Activity coordinators are friendly and has good interactions with the resident.
He seems his 'normal' self when visiting and there's no show of decline
of the resident's illness since arriving at Plas Gellar.

Since we went into a meeting for families last month, someone told the carers what was said in the meeting and some of the carers haven't spoken to us since. They shouldn't be like that and getting away with it. Two of them were moved to Brynwood, they didn't like it and they are back in Granbury. They
shouldn't dictate where they are going to work.

Not family friendly, do not encourage visitors to bring children, nor do they offer visitors a drink. Visitors are not allowed to use the toilet.
In their own words "we have to take what we are given"; as far as care staff go. Residents are not encouraged to take part in their hardly there activities.
Do not maintain regular updates with family. Hard to contact, always going to other parts of the home.
Allowed Mum to get severely constipated, don't ensure her hearing aids are used and make excuses when she removes them. Cover up their discrepancies such as allowing her to go weeks before her dentures were fixed.

Dear LM, Thank you for your feedback. In normal times, there are no restrictions on bringing children on visits. Toilet facilities are also available, and used by other visitors without difficulty. If staff have not offered a drink on a particular occasion, do contact me directly so that I can follow this up. The only time we have restrictions in relation to visitors is if there is an outbreak of an infectious disease e.g. Norovirus, or Covid-19. In those circumstances, the public health authorities require us to limit or exclude visitors for a period of time and/or to impose additional infection control procedures. In relation to the other matters raised, as you are aware these have already been investigated as part of a formal complaint – we will just have to agree to differ as to the facts. Please be assured, however, that your Mum’s welfare is our first priority, and we will always do what we can to support you as her family for as long as she is a resident with us.

As the Service Manager of Brynmawr Care Village, I am committed to creating a nurturing and supportive environment where every resident feels valued, respected, and at home. I strive to ensure the provision of kind care, whilst fostering a sense of community and well-being. I have worked within the care sector for sixteen years and the joy of witnessing our lovely residents’ smiling faces remains the most rewarding experience, and the highlight of my day. Brynmawr Care Village is a lively and fun place, and I am inspired each and every day to pursue my promise of delivering compassionate care to those we are privileged to serve.
