Overall Experience 1.0 out of 5
My father was admitted to Fairways in March for so-called end-of-life care. Within 3 weeks we were told that they couldn't cope with him and they would have to move him to their other home on Anglesey that specialised in dementia care. So the matron from that home came out to assess him and promptly
told us, no, they couldn't take him as they didn't have enough staff so he had to stay where he was and clearly not wanted. We visited him twice a week for the 3 months he was there. I lost count of the number of times he was in his chair in the communal room when we walked in, slumped forwards, nearly falling out of his chair with the so-called nurse sitting at a table with her back to him clearly not caring at all about the people supposedly in her care. Also he suddenly started getting a lot of injuries, cuts, very bad bruises, etc. which he never got while at home and we were told he fell or he did it to himself. This was bad enough but we had to keep asking for the plasters to be changed as they clearly hadn't been. Fairways Trearddur on Anglesey is supposed to be a nursing home, what a joke, it's at best a poor care home.
My father passed away on the 30th of May while I was on holiday supposedly in his sleep, who knows. All I do know is his last few months of life were a misery with the way he was treated and to cap it all when we went to Fairways to pick up his belongings they were just all thrown into a box, his picture frames broken, his ornaments broken, clothes that weren't even his. To say I am fuming is an understatement.
Reply from Jankee Patel, Director at Fairways Nursing HomeThe team would like to pass on our sincere condolences to you and your family for your loss. We are deeply sorry you feel your family and your loved one had a negative experience. Fairways Care has recently been taken over and is now under new management. As a provider we are highly experienced in providing elderly care and look forward to taking the homes into the next stage of their journey. There is a new home manager for the service who is keen and determined to ensure extremely high standards within the home are met. With regards to the moving to one of our other homes, this was a multi-disciplinary decision and not facilitated due to both homes and the health boards assessment stating this would not be in your loved ones best interest due to poor health at the time. Sadly at the time of assessment it was deemed that moving would be more dangerous to their health. We are sorry if this was not communicated to you. We would be happy to have a call with you to discuss your concerns.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.358) out of 10 for Fairways Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.708 for Fairways Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (71 Excellents x 5) + (22 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 96 Ratings = 4.708
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.65 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Fairways Nursing Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.65
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 38 registered maximum number of service users is 7.6, which has been reached with 8 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
